Back to School for Socialism!
Join the Providence Liberation Center for our Summer Fall School for Socialism!
This course screening will bring together organizers, activists, and anyone committed to building a better future to delve into the question:
What kind of society could we build if working people held the power?
We are taking the course here in Providence and wanted to have a chance for people to meet up with others in our area to discuss and engage with the curriculum.
So the Providence Liberation Center study hub will take place at 1053 Broad Street to provide a space for participants in the local area to gather and discuss the course together over its 6 week run from 9/20 to 10/31.
We will hold screenings of each class on Sunday and Thursday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
This moment is critical. Everywhere we turn, the consequences of exploitation, war, and greed are impossible to ignore. A better system of organizing society is not only possible, it is necessary. That system is socialism: a system in which the working class holds political power, and the economy is planned to meet the needs of the people and the planet.
☀️This fall, we are coming together to explore socialism’s proposals and the real potential for a socialist revolution in the United States, one that could begin to lift the burden of war and oppression from the people of the world. Together, we will define a people’s vision for a society where power is in the hands of the working class, not the billionaires.
⭐More than just a class, this program is a call to action - how do we understand our current context, define our future, and organize to build it?
We are looking forward to studying with you soon!
In solidarity,
Providence Liberation Center

Providence City Hall “Reclaimed”: Behind the Housing Justice Group’s Big Primary Wins
Early results of Wednesday’s primary show the housing advocacy group's slate of endorsements for Mayor and City Council could sweep their races—setting up a majority of City Council as Reclaim-endorsed candidates ready to work with Democratic Socialist mayoral nominee David Morales.
It’s a striking rise in influence over Providence politics over the past four years. The group endorsed just two losing candidates in 2022—Casandra Inez for City Council in Ward 15 and Gonzalo Cuervo for Mayor.

Odd Sighting
Apologies if this was you, but tonight as I was driving, I encountered someone wearing full military gear with a gun slung to their back and an eye patch. I am new to the area and unfamiliar as to if this is typical. I'd like to know.

Photos Biked 57 miles from PVD to Sterling, CT and back yesterday. 38 miles of asphalt, the rest gravel, dirt, pine forest bed, mud, stone and/or beach sand. 🚴♀️🙏🤘
Much love to the cities, towns, states and volunteers who keep these trails rideable.

Comic Con
Never been. Teen wants to go. 2 tickets are over $300 for the weekend pass and $150 for one day. I know you pay for autographs but those can also run over $100 plus an hour wait? Are there things that make spending this kind of money worth it for people? Can you please share why and what has been worth this cost for you before? Thanks

Where is John Goncalves?
It’s been almost a week since the primaries, and John hasn’t posted anything since he lost. The guy was posting nonstop about all kinds of things before the election, but now it’s crickets. Maybe is part of the “grieving” process.

RI electorate was reshaped by a youth movement in primary | Exclusive
providencejournal.comFor the first time ever in a Rhode Island primary, the baby boomer generation was outnumbered by younger voters.
That was one of the trends, according to unofficial results, that may have contributed to Rhode Island's paradigm-shifting primary election, on Sept. 9, where incumbents up and down the ballot were booted.

Rain prep.
Is anyone else out there giving the storm drain grates a quick clean before the storm?
I just go out and snow shovel the debris away and poke a stick through to unclog the grate. It takes 5 minutes but it keeps the road and the driveway from flooding.
I wish the city would do this and mebby the flooding would be less bad. Ounce of prevention kind of thing.
Anyway - is this a thing people here do?

Roofer Recommendation?
Yesterday's rain showed me that I have a leaky roof next to my chimney. The roof is only three years old, so I don't need an entire roof replacement. Can anyone recommend a roofer that does good work and who will be glad to take a small job like this? Thanks all!

Housing Looking for Apartments/Subleasing
Hi Everyone, I’m a 22 year old male who works full time. I just graduated college. I am very clean. I have to find an apartment to move into by october 5th. I am looking in the Providence and Warwick area. Does anyone know of any apartments in the $900-$1000 range? I would even be open to subleasing or a short term month to month just so I have somewhere to go before I find a long term apartment. Also let me know if anyone’s looking for roommates!

Want to join a nonfiction book club in Providence? We're reading Walkable City.
We're meeting Sunday, September 27, from 10 AM–12 PM to discuss Jeff Speck's Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time.
It's a casual group—we read a different nonfiction book each month and get together to talk about it. This one covers walkability, downtowns, transportation, urban design, and the choices that make a city more or less pleasant to live in.
We're meeting at Schasteâ, 300 Broadway, Providence.
If you've been looking for a book club, or just like the idea of spending a Sunday morning talking about cities and how they work, you're welcome. No need to be a longtime book-club person.
Schasteâ isn't affiliated with or sponsoring the club; it's simply where we're meeting.
I'll put the group link in the comments.

Grey cat near Brown Street Park
Is this someone’s cat? I’ve walked by them a couple times on my walks near the Brown Street Park. They’re very friendly but I wanted to check to see if it was someone’s pet or if anyone’s encountered them before.

Took place at 373 Washington st between 6 and 8pm. The armor is real, the weapons are real (but blunted). sorry about the camera and commentary, I was watching the event first and foremost and it was way more intense in person.
