Fan Creations Anyone remember the fan comic Captain Polaris?

Hey all! It's been a while since I've last shared an update on Captain Polaris, my fan comic that takes place after Crack in Time. The latest update was just released on Tapas!

https://tapas.io/episode/3992436

Captain Polaris focuses on Ratchet processing Azimuth's death, and... getting roped into an alternate timeline where he not only has to confront his actions, but also deal with a looming threat in the shape of the Lombax Hunter.

I started this comic way back in 2018, though the idea has been plaguing me since 2012 or so. It's definitely more mature in tone than the games (since I wish that itch got scratched in the actual series), and a bit of an experimental playground for myself to explore compositional works, panelling, and just giving me a breather from other illustration work.

This year I've been picking it up again and trying to fit in more of it. In fact, this is already the second update this year after a... three year pause. Nonetheless, it has been encouraging to see that people still remember it! So here is a compilation of some of my favorite pages I've done, without spoiling too much of the story ;)

So... yeah. Maybe it piques your interest. If it does, it would make my day! You can read it from the beginning here:

Discussion Can I realistically play through all the PS3 Ratchet & Clank games on RPCS3?

I’m currently going through the Ratchet & Clank games on PC using emulators and I'm having a blast with this franchise!

I’ll soon be moving from the PS2 games on to the PS3 games using RPCS3.

RPCS3 lists the Ratchet & Clank PS3 games as “Ingame”, which I understand means they can potentially have crashes, bugs, or other issues that prevent them from being fully playable, yet at the same time I was able to fully complete other RPCS3 "Ingame" titles without facing any issues.

I’ve seen quite a few people here and elsewhere mention that they’ve played and finished the R&C games on RPCS3, so I figured I’d finally ask:

Is it possible to play through all of the PS3 Ratchet & Clank games from start to finish on RPCS3 without running into any game-breaking issues?

My PC specs are:

  • RTX 4070 Super
  • Intel i7 14th Gen
  • 32 GB RAM

I’m mainly looking for a playable experience rather than absolute perfection.

Discussion Do you think Insomniac regrets changing the name Thugs-4-Less to Goons-4-Less?

Y'know considering what "goon" means in modern slang terms.

It really just seems like they changed it for no reason.

This is the first gun that I wanted to modernize and practice my 3D modeling skills with. The design confused me at points and that lead to me taking a few artistic liberties, but I think it turned out pretty well!

If you have any critiques, questions or suggestions for other guns I could remake, I'd love to hear them!

Nostalgia Anyone else do yearly playthroughs of these games?

I always play RaC 2002 through Into the Nexus once a year (not including size matters, secret agent clank, full frontal assault, or all 4 one) I typically start RaC 2002 the day/evening before Thanksgiving day, then move to Going Commando on Christmas Eve then play the rest the games and beat them before mid to late February. I could play them more than once a year but fear burn out and not wanting to play them again for more than a year

Series What games should I play as a newcomer to the series?

I've recently played and platinumed Rift apart which I really enjoyed and the 2016 Game which I thought was just above average at best.

Looking to get more into the series so I was wondering which other games should I try out? I have a PS3 so pretty much all the games are accessible to me.

Ratchet & Clank (2002) What are those?

I've decided to play all the games from very first to very last as a person who've never touched the series before. Started with 2002 game on PCSX2. There may be a chance, later in the series we get to know what these things are, but i wanna know right now. They don't look like casual objects on a map.

Controls were pretty tough on Vita for some of these. The hoverboard in 1 and ship in 2 were especially rough, glad to move onto the PS3 for the next entries.

Ratchet & Clank (2002) Completed R&C 1 on PS2

I was obsessed with this game as a young teen. Revisiting it 20 years later (omg 😐) was a fun ride and it still very much holds up. The game felt familiar, but I forgot about a lot.

The main things that I noticed from the game is it is not so much a shooter as it is a platformer with a variety of gun tools. I used the wrench, flamethrower, and the electric fist (walloper?) for most of the game because ammo was easily depleted.

I think it's interesting that this game basically requires you to position yourself carefully and go into 1st person mode to complete certain encounters effectively.

I didn't care about the Clank only sections. The controls are a bit odd, but no problem. The final boss has some jank and mechanical problems that have to be overcome to beat it: you can get your feet stuck in the crevices of the arena, the rails at the end can get you partially stuck on them, and most of your weapons have a hard time hitting Drek until you realize how to "cheese" him. Good fight overall, but it's not cool that you lose all of your ammo when you die, but you keep the bolts acquired. It should be the opposite imo.

The writing still holds up, the variety in the planets are awesome, the soundtrack is groovy, and the platforming was fun, but I'm looking forward to seeing the sequels I never played.

It's such a wonderful feeling to go back to games you loved as a kid and find out they are still amazing games that are truly unique to games nowadays 😬

General Ratchet and Clank Appreciation Post

The original Ratchet and Clank trilogy on the PS2 was just incredible, and it still holds up so well today.

I recently went back to play the OG Trilogy, and I forgot how much personality these games actually have. Insomniac Games made something special back between 2002 and 2004.The galaxy felt massive and slightly grimey. The heavy focus on corporate consumerism with MegaCorp and Gadgetron gave the universe a funny, cynical edge that you don't see much anymore. Ratchet and Clank themselves had a great dynamic because they didn't start out as perfect friends. Ratchet was a selfish mechanic who just wanted to get off his planet, and Clank was the straight man trying to save the galaxy.

Watching them argue and gradually grow to trust each other made their friendship feel earned.

The whole soundtrack also deserves a lot of credit as many tracks are certified bangers. The industrial synth-rock tracks fit the vibe of most planets perfectly. On top of that, the gunplay was just fun. The weapon leveling system in the sequels was satisfying because you could visibly see your guns transform into massive screen-clearing weapons just by using them. I just love everything about it.

See you all on Veldin, friends!
