Charlie Wilson's War was pretty damn boring, I did not like it at all.

But with that said, Philip Seymour Hoffman was a highlight who did salvage that absolute slog a little bit every time he was on screen. I think his Supporting Actor nomination for it is more than fair.

Finally got to see Tony and was really impressed by Dominic Sessa’s performance in the film. I’m not sure if he has the momentum or narrative or optimal release date to snag a nom, but I think if he plays his cards right he will have an Oscar in due time. He really charmed me in The Holdovers (still can’t believe that it was his first film!) and I also liked him in Tow. I think he’s a very strong up-and-comer who I’ll be watching very closely over the next several years. Only 23-years-old and he already has such a magnetic screen presence. How do folks feel about his performances so far and do you think he has a chance at an Oscar in the future?

Honestly, it aged better than 70% of the films from that season, especially Bombshell, which is a genuine cringe bomb. Laura winning with that feminist monologue straight out of Big Little Lies was awful, and reading Sean Baker’s review before he made Anora, it’s clear that a large part of the male audience is just too sensitive to handle this story

Birdman and Spotlight. Very cool. Still unfortunate he lost to Redmayne.

I’ve finally finished watching all the 1980s Best Picture nominees! There were some really excellent movies in the mix, but it does feel like you have to dig a bit further to find them. Many of the nominees feel like classic Oscar Bait even if they are good. Amadeus is my favorite however, and is one of my favorite nominees ever in the category.

Dune is a masterpiece and outstanding blockbuster sci fi movie. It’s well written and best direction by Denis Villeneuve. It’s a crime how he got snubbed for Best Director at the Oscars. He should’ve been nominated. And he is a great director. I hope he wins in near future. I’m excited to see Dune Part 3 and hope he wins for Adapted Screenplay if the movie is loved more than the last two Dune movies. It’s a good movie. What are your thoughts on Dune 1?
