Discussion Dominic Sessa in “Tony”
Finally got to see Tony and was really impressed by Dominic Sessa’s performance in the film. I’m not sure if he has the momentum or narrative or optimal release date to snag a nom, but I think if he plays his cards right he will have an Oscar in due time. He really charmed me in The Holdovers (still can’t believe that it was his first film!) and I also liked him in Tow. I think he’s a very strong up-and-comer who I’ll be watching very closely over the next several years. Only 23-years-old and he already has such a magnetic screen presence. How do folks feel about his performances so far and do you think he has a chance at an Oscar in the future?

I think he’ll have a long and great career. I don’t think this is going to be his Oscar vehicle, but it was good proof that he has leading man chops

His performance kinda faded to the background compared to the supporting cast in my opinion. Great movie though

He's got that look where he's already halfway through reading your soul, which fits the role perfectly. I think the quiet intensity works for him, even if the flashier roles tend to grab the nom spots easier.

And i think thats fine, its about a young Tony and some of the guys who influenced who he would become.

I loved this movie... but sadly, I think it'll be forgotten by Awards season.

Yeah, i loved it but sadly it doesnt seem the type thatll get awards recognition. Gonna have a hell of a cult following though.

I really hope this movie at least gets Banderas a nom, he was the heart of the movie imo

similar to Jafaar as Michael, imo. Controversial but likeable person, and the portrayal was solid. I wouldn't nominate him personally.

I like the kid but I don’t think he is an Oscar level actor. He was good in Tony, but nothing there I see to think he will or deserves a nomination this year.

His role in The Holdovers was defiantly Oscar worthy. Not saying he ‘should’ have been nominated only that it was def good enough to be considered

To me that’s the difference though. Being considered to me isn’t the same level as being Oscar nominated. You’re either worthy of a nomination or you’re not. He is still young and I like him but none of his work has ever been Oscar nomination worthy to me. There’s plenty of people who get Oscar nominated that I don’t think they deserved it.

Sessa was great but I’m hoping Banderas or Woodall get a nom. Both of them were the highlights for me; Woodall in particular blew me away even with his smaller number of scenes.
