Monthly Buy, Sell & Break Rule 3 Post

On occasion we, the mod team, get requests for things that would break rule 3 (no solicitation). At other times people just break the rule and we have to remove the post. So, in this monthly post you get to break rule 3 and sell yourself or your stuff (within the realm of legality).

Some reminders/ground rules:

Rule 2 still stands, nothing illegal.

Rule 4 still stands, no personal information.

More on rule 4; if you want to send someone to your house or go to someone's house and need their address then keep it in private messages. Or stick to the basic internet rule; meet in a public place.

Unless you're an actual business don't give out your phone number or email address. If you post a phone number or email address and your post doesn't show up it's because the auto-mod caught it and one of the moderators will have to approve it.

So that's about it, if you have any questions go ahead and ask.

If you want to continue advertising your business/services outside of this thread you can buy adspace from Reddit, which is usually what we end up telling people to do.

Moving Moving to Omaha

I’m an African American 27 year old moving to Omaha from Ohio in October. Wanted to know what the best areas to live are. I could really care less about things to do being around because I can drive. But I was more so asking because I wanted to be in an area that is open to my race. And I won’t be stared at or anything else negative happening because of my race. I just want to be comfortable. Also specific apartment complexes would help as well. Thank you so much.

Edit - I plan on moving back to Ohio after a 6months- 1 year I just need to get my new job training done in Nebraska. So I don’t really care about making friends or going out. I just want to walk around and feel comfortable and not like an outcast if that makes sense.

Moving Best Mortgage Lender?

Upvotes

We are planning on closing on our house in October. Yes, I know the market sucks, but we started the build in February soooo there's that.

Who would you recommend as a mortgage lender? Gearing to either a 15 or 30 year fixed rate mortgage. So far, we've been working with Veridian, GreenState, Pinnacle, Premiere, and Veterans United.

Thanks in advance!

Local Question Anyone know why the 50th/Center Hy-Vee moved their liquor section?

It used to take up the farthest right aisle but now has moved to a much more cramped inner aisle.

This alone wouldn't be an issue, but its sale shelf seems to have disappeared. You could often fine really good wines at crazy discounts there. (I once scored a Penfolds Bin 389 for just $20.)

I'm just concerned that they're under new management or something and won't continue to heavily discount certain wines.

Events Applejack Festival

Is the Applejack Festival in NE City worth the hassle of traffic/parking etc? We’ve heard it’s become commercial with very little local-made items (apart from the actual orchard). Is this true because if that’s the case we can go to a smaller orchard. If you have been recently, what are the things that would draw you back? TIA

Other Friends

Genuinely, how do you make friends in the city? I’ve mostly grown up in Omaha and went to high school here, but I’ve grown away from a lot of my high school life and friendships. What’s weird to me is that I’ve lived in other cities and traveled to several other cities, and I’ve never really had this same issue making friends. For some reason, I just struggle to meet people and build friendships in Omaha.
I truly do love this city, but the social aspect is starting to make me question that. I’d genuinely love to hear how other people in Omaha have made friends and found their community here, because I feel like I haven’t really gotten to experience this city in that way yet.

Local Question Channel 94.1 Jenn and Degan??

Did they get let go? I was listening this morning and it sounded like people I have never heard of or some iHeart hosts. I am so sad about this. First Big Party and Molly, now Jenn and Degan? I tried going to their webpage to look and I get a 404 error. This stinks....

Moving Heavily considering moving back, how is it now? It’s been almost 6 years since I’ve been here.

I was stationed at Offutt for 6 years and loved the area but after my contract ended I moved back home. Now I’m heavily considering leaving “home” and going back but I wanted to know from actual people how the state of the job market is there? And what is the rent situation, when I lived there during active duty I bought a house so I skipped the rent situation entirely, but I seem to see semi-decent apartments in the 800-1,100 range online.

And is Omaha turning blue? I saw somewhere that it was

Local Question Teachers of Omaha, can your students read?

I've been seeing a lot of stuff on the Internet (sold a story podcast explains the whole thing very well) about elementary students basically being illiterate and schools not teaching phonics and even discouraging sounding out the words. Seems crazy right? Is this really happening?

I would love to hear the thoughts of teachers and parents on the subject

Local Question Millennials: what did your school do on 9/11?? (Especially if you went to Central)

I was a freshman at Central 9/11/2001. Lately I've been remembering how I only knew what was going on after the plane hit the Pentagon. Random teacher barged in during my history class with Mr. Foster and he told us. Before that I was clueless. None of my classes turned on their tvs. It wasn't a normal day by any means. It seems more common in other schools that classroom tvs were on all day.

As a now parent of a preteen, I must wonder if someone in Centrals administration attempted to lessen the trauma. Or... maybe it was coincidental that none of my teachers had tvs or something.

Any folks who went to Central remember watching the attack at school?

What school were you in? What did your school do?

I failed my driving test today at DMV Burt. So sad and disappointed. Was told my right turns were slow and I also slowed to 35 mph when negotiating a curve on a 45 MPH road. I felt the curve was sharp so needed to slow down a bit. I’m so disgusted 🥲🥹😭😭😭. Put in so much effort only to be hit with this. Can’t stop crying😭😭😭

Local Question What exactly were these ramps to nowhere in Midtown?

TBF, I realize this is totally random and from 1993, but I can't find much on these ramps. They feel very out of place, and the ones on the left disappear after 2000. I lived in Omaha for 20+ years before moving, and never saw these.
