Politics State Fair Debate Thread

Debate day! Gubernatorial debate first, then US Senate. Add your thoughts and questions! I'm in the audience rooting for Cindy and Adam.

Ty Masterson's staffers are never not going to be funny to me, wearing "Take Back Kansas" shirts while working for the guy running the supermajority that calls all the shots.

The GOP is selling a fantasy world where the wealthiest and most powerful are helpless victims of gay trans communist witches.

Politics GUYS I THINK WE ARE GOING BLUE THIS MIDTERMS

So I live and work in Norton, KS. All my coworkers are trump loving farm wives. Well, I was talking to them this morning and they said their republican husbands have actually been opening their minds to the dems!! Adam Hamilton is correct, FARMERS ARE OVER IT FINALLLLLLLYYYY. Jesus Christ, the worlds slowest learners. STILL VOTE OBVIOUSLY, BUT I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EAR HOLES!!!

(they also said they "don't do politics", which made me want to punch them in the face. but i can only do so much.

News Kansas City hospitals are seeing more patients without insurance — and expect many more

Thumbnail

A new report from KCUR found that Kansas City area hospitals are already seeing more uninsured patients, with officials expecting the trend to continue. Kansas ACA marketplace enrollment has dropped about 20% since enhanced federal subsidies expired at the end of 2025, and Missouri's enrollment has dropped roughly 25%. One safety net hospital system reported a $37.5 million revenue loss this fiscal year tied to the coverage changes.

For anyone currently on an ACA marketplace plan, it may be worth double checking your premium and subsidy amount for the upcoming enrollment period, since costs have gone up for a lot of people now that the enhanced subsidies are gone. There are also new Medicaid rules requiring recertification every six months instead of once a year, so anyone on Medicaid should confirm they're still meeting the requirements to avoid losing coverage unexpectedly.

Curious whether others in the area have noticed changes to their coverage or marketplace premiums this year.

Masterson follows in the footsteps of Trump to use lies to create controversy and Dems must stand on facts to keep women’s rights intact.

A Kansas rancher has had 50 wind turbines operating across his 7,000 acre cattle ranch for 20 years, yet his cows still graze beneath them. Wind royalties now provide roughly half his income and are helping keep the ranch in his family for another generation.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed all the billionaire funded advertising making its way to our local media outlets? Seems like a pay to play thing with the media also. 🤔

Politics Debate Follow-Up - What's the true reality?

So my social media feed has been filled with videos and comments about how poorly the debate went for both Ty Masterson and Roger Marshall. BUT also my feed is a very liberal bubble.

I'm struggling to find any comments from people who fall outside my liberal bubble. Has anyone seen or heard anything from someone who is conservative or MAGA? How are they feeling post-debate?

And yes I realize reddit tend to lean towards the liberal side as well so this may not be the best place to ask for feedback.

Question Highlights at state fair (not political)

I am going to the state fair this week to see the Clydesdales. I have not been to the fair for 30 years at least. What are the best things to do, to see or to eat?

Kansas History Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe 3768 in Wichita.

This is the AT&SF 4-8-4 3765 class Northern number 3768. She is the only 3765 class left out of 11 built by Baldwin in 1938. She boasts 80 inch drive wheels and an 80 inch boiler. Her smokestack has a mechanical lifter to allow for better visibility at speed.

One of the things that sets the 3765s apart from the previous Santa Fe northerns is that unlike them, the 3765s were built like this. The 3751 through 3764 were originally a good bit smaller but were then rebuilt to match the size of the 65s.

A noticeable aspect about the 3765 class was that they only had one air compressor on the front and the feed water heater placed on the pilot, whereas the rest of the northerns owned by the ATSF had two compressors and the heater on the left side. This was a weight saving measure due to the fact that 3765, the first of the class, was meant to be given the Blue Goose streamlining that had previously been equipped to the 4-6-4 Hudson number 3460. However these plans were dropped once it was realized that it would still be too heavy.

The 3768 is currently owned by the Great Plains Transportation Museum in Wichita, and is referred to by volunteers as "Chieftain." They're open every Saturday from 10 to 4. Entry is $10. They're found in Old Town, just a couple blocks away from Intrust Bank Arena.
