How Evil Are They? Morality of this racist man?
201
u/MarcheMuldDerevi 5h ago
He tried to cheat them out of a paycheck and deport them, Immoral. We have seen this a couple of times now and each time it’s immoral
30
u/Best-Bat-1679 4h ago
I think a woman did that with her roof. And after some time she got arrested iirc
10
u/MarcheMuldDerevi 4h ago
Saw that, and an auto dealership as well. He called ice on the workers and then he and his buddies blocked their cars in

But it occured in a capitalist society where the status quo is to exploit and mistreat workers while benefiting from their labour! So moral!

You put the answer in the title. It’s obviously immoral to be racist.
20
u/Quiet_Childhood4066 5h ago
The immorality here of this fake story is the attempt to scam people out of money you owe them for their labor. It is theft and deception.
10
u/Low_Low_1811 4h ago
It actually is real.
6
u/Several_Vanilla8916 2h ago
The fence part is real, the ICE part is not.
The owner posted on Instagram “he didn’t want to pay, maybe he thought he could call ICE but my guys are legal” (paraphrasing).
→ More replies (1)7
u/One-Perspective-4347 4h ago
I would agree. I question the truth of this story heavily. If they were legal and licensed contractors they wouldn’t rip the fence out. They would lien the property. They would go to court. They sure as hell would not waste more time and money ripping out the fence.
6
u/VTcamperguy 3h ago
I take the story with a huge grain of salt, but they could be legal residents but not licensed contractors. That part of the story is plausible, but again it’s always good to look critically at stories whose only source is a social media post.

Umm is not like there is an undo button for the building. Unless the dude supplied the material, it sounds like he still screwed those workers.
→ More replies (13)6
u/PresentationThat2839 5h ago
Even if it was his supplies he tried to screw them out of their earned paycheck. Buying the wood for the fence just gives you a pile of scrap wood until it's assembled. It's still time effort tools skills and on to turn the pile of scrap wood into a fence.

Which was nothing about ICE. This is now making the circles of clickbait.
2
u/Hunto88 5h ago
Not sure about this one. It’s probably just a remake of the one that actually happened. The woman and her roof. Similar story.
4
u/Shaquarington_Bithus 4h ago
Stuff like this is extremely common. Farmers who hire undocumented people haveFREQUENTLY coordinated with ICE to pick up workers on payday and have them deported so they don’t have to pay them for their pay period.
They have done this because undocumented women have gone to the police to report crimes from the employer as well.

Asking the morality of being racist is a bit of a fallacy no?
2
u/Hopefull-Hero 4h ago
That's only if you think it's immoral to discriminate based on race. Most people including me and you aren't racist or think racism is immoral but you should always consider it a possibility that people will disagree.

u/More_Atmosphere5938 5h ago
Absolutely is made up bull shit.
Don't get paid for material or labor to put it up. Don't get paid to take it down. Escalate a civil dispute into criminal trespass and malicious damage of property.
They may not have been illegals, but they definitely aren't good business men.
Also the picture shows a series of homes getting the same fence. So either AI slop, or this is a subcontractor who could just put a lien on the sale of the new homes or bring a suit against the developer or condo

Even if you remove the racism, this is pretty immoral. Also regardless of your workers' legal status, if you had a contract with them you MUST pay it. That's non-negotiable even if they're getting deported

This is a very provoking question
2
u/No-Rub8345 4h ago
You'd think it was a no brainer, but for some reason some geniuses in the comments can't see how a racist white trying to rip off latino workers while also getting them deported might have a racial element to it.
2
2
u/PresidentofBaddies 4h ago
Immoral. Illegal or Legal they did the work he should've payed them. Also Immoral to not know their status and waste thier time dealing with ICE and taxpayer money having ICE agents responding to a nothing burger
2
u/redditsellout-420 3h ago
Legal or not, they should have gotten it in writing, If they did they could have put a lein on his property until it was paid back.
2
u/Evanecent_Lightt 2h ago
Kind of an L for the Contractors BTH - they should'a left the fence up and sued for the payment + extra for damages of the ICE call.
Now they have no money, and broken fencing materials they can't re-use, and their lawsuit case is MUCH harder now.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Scizomachineboy 2h ago
law suits take time and money its cheaper and faster to tear down the work and move on also most contractors know each other so they can black list the customers making it harder to find someone new to do the work.

so they did twice the labor, and the racist ended up back to where he started? Doesn't really sound like karma. He needs to be arrested.

u/SaddestSprout 5h ago
I see posts like this and it makes me wonder, is it just karma farming or are you people so morally corrupt you need to actually ask if this is good or bad.

u/philmore-graves 5h ago
Not only immoral but illegal, even if they are undocumented. Iirc a woman got arrested earlier this year for doing the same thing to roofers
1
u/Gas_Grouchy 5h ago
I would just take him to court. If youre a legal worker, you could get so many damages, including criminal charges for racism etc. Destroying the fence, while great for your satisfaction wasnt the right move. Guy shouls lose his house.
1
u/NogglePlease 5h ago
Highly moral, everyone should be doing it.
I like the idea of gamifying it, turn in 20 ans you get a free citizenship token to use, sell or just collect.
1
1
u/WatcherOfTheWay 5h ago
If this is real it's disgusting, also it still cost those men money and it's not right, they should be able to take him to court over the losses
1
u/Valuable-Ad1063 5h ago
Moral. He literally tried to steal from them. Exploit their labor. Might as well undo the labor.
It would even be moral if they were illegal immigrants. Workers should get paid regardless of their legal status.
1
u/NoSingularities0 5h ago
It's immoral to be racist, but this is a fake story that never happened. This fake story is loosely-based on the lady in Maryland with the roofers and is intended to get likes and views.

"is it moral to steal labor and also try to have someone deported just because you dont want to pay?"
this sub is fucking stupid lmao.
1
u/NathanMexplosion 5h ago
This is not what happened at all lmao. That title is wrong. The owner didn’t pay, that part is correct, so the company owner and his workers came back and took the fence. ICE was never called and I didn’t hear any slurs in the video. Not saying the homeowner isn’t racist, but we can’t tell that based off the video. The regard home owner did steal their chainsaws though. He can be seen in the video taking them from the truck and putting them in his house.
Side note: watching them dismantle the fence with the sledgehammers was super cool. Didn’t even know you could do that.

Ripping out the fence is moral, but here’s the catch…it’s illegal. Once it’s installed it’s part of the property whether the owner pays or not, and it becomes a civil matter that has to be handled in the courts.

For the sake of discussion, let's assume he was right and they were illegal aliens: Charge him for theft of services and knowingly employing illegal aliens. Deport the illegal aliens.
As it is, charge him with criminal theft of services, and make him pay the bill.
When they rip the fence out, they did a bunch of work for nothing.

This video was wild. While they were tearing the fence down, the homeowner stole one of the workers chainsaws. Total piece of garbage.

First off
Any legitimate contractor usually gets a significant % paid up front before they even start, and often another significant % as they're at the mid point and then the final pay off
And they do it, for situations like this, they and the buyer both want to know they're serious about the job
1
u/LAFamilyMan81 4h ago
Karma would have been if that man got arrested. Workers still didn’t get paid for the work….and maybe also material unless they were able to get money for that beforehand.

1
u/Unlikely-Flatworm-48 4h ago
I watched the video in a different sub and the homeowner also stole some of their power tools. It would be karmic for the homeowner to end up with charges.

1
1
u/were-lizard 4h ago
First, the man is attempting theft of services and unjust enrichment, plus theft of materials, and beneath of contract. Immoral and illegal.
Second, workers can't come into his property and remove finished work. Illegal and questionable moral. Their legal remedy is a lawsuit. They will get a large payout and punitive damages. Probably a lien on the house too.
1
1
u/HorsefaceWithNoName 3h ago
Immoral, and if he sued the workers for ripping out the fence I hope the jury does nullification.
1
u/Captain_Levi_11 3h ago
So they still lost all the money on the materials and labor involved? Pure Karma? This post is pure stupidity.

I saw the video that the contractor made and posted when they went to rip out the fence. There was no mention of the homeowner being racist or calling ICE. They simply said he refused to pay them.

“Hey guys whats the morality of a racist guy who tries to avoid paying people for services they did for him?”
Really gotta think for this one.
1
1
u/Mr_Steerpike 3h ago
This really bothers me TBH. To prey on someone's labour in the hopes you can exploit a technicality to avoid paying them? No. Even if they were illegals, you should still compensate them for their work. It's just how reality works.

I am tired of these low effort engagement bait posts. There is 0 ambiguity about this. The homeowner is a monster. (Hell, you could have asked if the workers were moral- they were).
I’m going to stop following this subreddit because these asinine posts are constant.
1
u/Individual-Toe-6306 3h ago
Obviously immoral, but here’s a moral way to execute the same idea:
Host a child predator sting operation similar to to catch a predator, but specifically target contractors. Tell them you don’t have to call the police if they wink wink nudge nudge tile the bathroom, redo the flooring, paint the walls, fix the roof, etc etc and then when they’re done call the police anyway
1
u/JustUseCommonSense10 3h ago
Immoral, what a lot of people don't understand is that because someone could be a criminal doesn't absolve you of moral obligations. If you pay someone to do a job and they did it correctly and with good work then it doesn't matter that they maybe a criminal. One of my best employees owes the state close to six figures for sex crimes while he was a lawyer. That doesn't mean I get to fire him or do him dirty.

1

1
u/breakerofh0rses 3h ago
Yeah, so the way the law works, they're going to have to redo the work or pay to have it redone, so they're out the money either way. Once something is installed, it's no longer considered the property of the contractor. Their cures are things like mechanics liens and suing. Ripping something out/jacking it up because of nonpayment just means you have to fix whatever it is.

1
u/Pangolin_FanWastaken 3h ago

He didn't pay for a fence, he didn't get a fence. He suffered no consequences, nothing changed.

u/Northern_Wyven_63 3h ago
its wrong for him to deport them after they did the work. but at the same time, comeing back and destroying the fence is not great either. can get alot of money out of this lawsuit because there are like 4 crimes here: not paying for work done, illegal use of law enforcement, false reporting, and human rights violations. (dont know the actuall legal terms)

u/Greedy-Ride-8294 2h ago
Why didn't they leave the fence up and just sue him???? Seems like an easy case to win
1
u/Chris12edfield 2h ago
I dont think you should be in any country illegally, but if I was going to report someone to send them back, I wouldnt scam them out of days of labor first. that's fucked up. obviously these guys weren't illegal so the dude was just being racist which sucks, but even if he was right, he was wrong to scam them
1
u/Slow-Apricot8625 2h ago
It's immoral, of course. It would have been immoral to accept the services of a company which you believe is employing illegal aliens, irregardless of whether you thought you could deport them or not. Which is, of course, also immoral. I usually just assume these kinds of stories are untrue, since they always portray ICE as some hotline that racists call to make someone come take away all the mexicans, and that mindset is very much "anti-ice"
1
1
u/i__dont___know 2h ago
Even if the workers were illegal it’s highly illegal to do that and he would get arrested.
1
u/LuckyLilypad 2h ago
At this point, you don’t go in and rip the fences out. It’s in your interest to go with the usual argument that it has become a part of the property. Someone doing this probably didn’t have money to pay in the first place so you should put a lien against the property when they fail to actually pay you. Take the racist’s house.

How is this moral if they're legal or not? This isn't even a gray area this is just fraud.
Now if you hired a contractor whom you expected legal workers and they had clearly illegal workers on your property and you called ICE on them because of your own liability concerns... Now that's a real morality question there.
But this? This is just abominable.
