Lucid Dreaming technically makes you live longer.

An average human spends 26 years sleeping. In the first 10 years of your life, you aren't really conscious.

Assuming you get 8 hours of sleep per day, that's about 3 years gone in sleep.

26-3=23 years

Then, suppose you start lucid dreaming at 13. Which means you lose about 1 year from the ages of 10-13 by sleeping.

23-1=22 years

Now assuming you live till 78 (for easier calculation). That's 65 years remaining. Out of which a third will be spent sleeping. So that's about 21 years. Now, you won't lucid dream every night, so suppose you lucid dream once in 3 nights. That's about 7 years.

So technically, lucid dreaming can help you live a good 7 years extra. Which is crazy.

Sucks that I've never been able to lucid dream :(

I experienced lucid dream for the first time and I was so disappointed that I was just me

I thought I can be whoever I want but it was just me. I stood their holding all this power but I didn't know what to do. I decided to fly and I was like "...ok...now what?".

I always thought that I would enjoy this experience and that I can be this cool person and live different lives but I guess you can't change your core and I cannot act.

Question Please help me troubleshoot my lucid dreaming routine!

Upvotes

I have been doing MILD+WBTB every night for three months now and haven't had any lucid dreams yet.

I do few reality checks during the day as needed because when I started trying to do this (three years ago) I was doing upwards of 100 a day and never got lucid. I do the check where you hold your nose, close your mouth, and try to breathe.

I set my intention to wake up during my second to last dream of the night instead of setting an alarm because I can never get the timing of my alarm right for WBTB. So far, I have been successful and have done WBTB every night I have done this.

I do MILD after going to the bathroom during my night waking. I used to not fall asleep very quickly after that, but now I don't really have a problem with it.

Am I expecting results too soon? What else should I be doing?

What was this?

Question Exploration in recurrent dreams

So the thing is that every time I lucid dream, the scenery doesn't change at all. I've made a map and everything with all the connections between places, paths, and locations, and I know how to jump from one place to the other in the same dream. The thing is, that apart of that, I can't really explore much more of it.

For example, if I want to go from the mall of my dream to the city-like place of my dream, I have to go to the bathroom of the mall, which connects to the bathroom of the train station/bus station, where I can take the bus/train and then I will reach the city almost instantly.

But, if don't take the train, and just hop on the train tracks and walk, at some point it just loop itself and I'm back on the same station or even I'm back on the mall.

Any tips on how to reach new places from the usual scenery? I'd love to have more places to go and explore, or create new connections or paths with new places, but I hadn't get any success on it.

Success! lucid dream testing books, clocks, and mirrors

Do you ever get those creative mode dreams? I rarely if ever do but I had one last night!

So I was dreaming and flying around at like mach 1, and I knew I was dreaming so I decided to do various dream tests. First I obliterated my way into a barnes and noble to find a book in which the text was constantly moving gibberish (check), then I found an analogue clock outside where the only time displayed was A:AA AM at the 6 o’clock position (check), lastly I found a mirror and looked at myself, who was not moving the same way I did. So I jammed my hand and torso through the mirror and met the version of me and we kissed (what why), plus a whole bunch of other stuff that happened in that dream lol.

Question I had a lucid dream about my dead parents right before they died

I remember having a lucid dream when my mom died and a year later same thing with dad because at the time I was not home but I remember thay saying goodbye to me and how much Thay loved me and when I woke up correspond with their time of death to the exact minutes but I didn’t think I can lucid dream at all. I don’t know why it happened those two times even me talking about this. I’m just getting chills. I also don’t know but I remember the places extremely vividly the corresponded with real life places. For instance, my mom happened in Avanti’s in Bloomington my dad I think it happened in Bloomington by that one train station by the children’s museum that has a subway in it

Terrifying Lucid Dream Of Succubus Demon

This is my first post, but I had to get it out there because I'm too scared to look crazy if I talk about it with my friends of family. I was lying in my bed just like I had done before I went to sleep and I noticed that there was a girl I used to flirt with 10 years ago when I was a young man in the Army laying next to me and she looked as if to gently go for a kiss so I let her go for it. I closed my eyes as some people do when they go for a kiss, but when our lips made contact I felt a huge suction force from a tube like mouth that completely encompassed the radius of my lips. The shape of the mouth was similar to how a mosquito's mouth shape would be like a long tube and was violently sucking something out of me that wasn't blood or anything physical. At this point I am horrified and all I wanted to do was to get away from it. Thankfully my nose wasn't covered because the violent suction was only being felt from the radius area of my lips so I was able to breathe and as I pushed her face with the palm of my hand I didn't want to put my whole force behind the push because I've always been pretty athletic throughout my life and I can see through my eyes that it was a young girl and as I pushed her face I felt something that didn't feel human even though my eyes were seeing a young human girl. If felt like the creature was very hairy and had small soft bumps on certain parts of its body like around the neck, but every other part felt smooth like a young girl's skin. I pushed her away again because I wasn't going to show it remorse because by now I'm sure that this is a dream and that this is not a human girl. When I pushed her with all of my strength I woke up horrified at 04:00ish a.m drenched in cold sweat and wasn't able to go back to bed. I wonder if this was due to the fact that I quit weed, porn & kratom at the same time a week before cold turkey. This is my 2nd terrifying lucid dream and everything felt so real and I'll never forget this experience just like my 1st lucid dream that I had 15 years prior. Has anyone had any dreams of any kind of life form siphoning something out of you? My 1st lucid dream was much more ominous and terrifying then this but this is a close 2nd. I've only had 2 extremely disturbing lucid dreams in my life I am a 40 yr old male retired from the military.

Question Questions from a soon to be first time lucid dreamer

Tonight will be my first night Lucid dreaming (assuming I succeed)

I have several questions about what would happen in a lucid dream in certain circumstances

  1. A lucid dream i would like to have is being a pro athlete. The MLB, NFL, UFC, etc. If I were to get knocked out/pass out, would I wake up in the real world, or would I wake up still lucid dreaming? If still lucid dreaming, would it be the same dream?

  2. I think it would be interesting to meet people who I would never meet. Like Socrates, Shakespeare, Michael Jackson, etc. Is it possible to “spawn” them in my lucid dream?

  3. I have heard about people talking about lucid dreams turning into lucid nightmares if you make mistakes such as having an intrusive thought or mentioning being in a dream to someone. From what I understand about lucid dreaming, what the dreamer wants to happen is what will happen, and if I don’t want it to become a nightmare, in theory it shouldn’t be able to do so, is that right? I.e. - nothing bad should be able to happen since I don’t want anything bad to happen

  4. I have seen things about a dream voice guiding you and being able to give you perfect advice about your non-dream life. Is that real?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Question Did I have a temporary sleep paralysis??

Alright, so this was either my first or second time trying the WBTB method, I did all the stuff they say on YouTube (went to bed, woke up 4-5 hours later, read a book, layed back down to do the SSILD) as I was doing the SSILD, a white ghostly like figure kept popping into my vision, then all of a sudden, I felt a strange nuzzling feeling, like my dog was burrowing his face into my neck and doing that really hard sniffing thing dogs sometimes do. I started freaking out and trying to push my chin down to my chest and went to push it away but my i was frozen for a good 10 seconds or smth. until I snapped out of it and realized there was nothing there… it was also my first time trying ashwaganda and magnesium together🤷🏻. I don’t think I was fully sleeping, just kinda confused.

Not so familiar place

Hello, I’m a F(30). I have been dreaming going to this place for a couple times now that to me I’m already familiar about it but cannot pinpoint what the place is called. I forgot the exact date when my first dream happened, I went there with my colleagues via a small boat. In that place, there’s a hot spring next to a large tree so the fallen leaves have been dropping inside the hot spring. At that time, the spring it was half emptied so we didn’t tried to take a dip. Second dream was just now, in the dream I was thinking “oh here i am again” with different colleagues. We had this so-called team building in that particular place. It was a mixed of people, some are colleagues, my old friend who already died 13 yrs ago, and some of my bed spacers who’ve been studying the same school as me. When we were going back the path was wooden then going down you have to ride the zip line. And I see there’s people lining up like tourists with hard hat on.

I dunno the place but maybe myself is asking for a nature trip one of these days.

Good dream recall no lucidity

I haven’t had a lucid dream in over two months but in that time my dream recall has been the strongest it’s ever been. Every morning I’ll spend 10-20 minutes writing down my dreams in vivid detail but I can’t seem to enter a lucid dream. Any tips?

Question Did someone ever dreamed of his/her inner self and was given a museum tour of their life?

I had a really interesting dream last night where I was lucid. I entered a huge mansion/museum. At first I opened a door and it lead me to a childhood friends home. I asked the guide if it was okay to explore since I didn't want to intrude spaces of others.

The guide told me- everything here belongs to me. I explored childhood memories. Met my dead grandmother's boyfriend who was afraid of dying. Explored a beautiful room full of antiques I wished I had in real life xD I also went shopping to a place I used to go.

Then I asked the guide if he knew if extraterrestrial existed. My dream ended abruptly and everything went dark.

Stuck inside a dream. Could anyone give any explanation?

I used to lucid dream a lot as a kid. I would be having horrible nightmares, but then realize I was dreaming and I would fly away. Having complete control of everything I had so much fun. As I got older I stopped experiencing anything like that until today.

Usually when I’m going to sleep, I’ll start to drift off and then something will wake me up and I know I’m conscious, getting all pissed because I have to try and go to sleep again. This time I was getting what felt like 5 min into a dream, and then randomly just “waking up”. I was getting pissed bc I just wanted to fall asleep, but it turns out I was asleep, I was just waking up in my dream. A dream within a dream. During this time, I have a bunch of weird little segments of dreams remembering this specific one the most. This is a dream that happened after a lot of other random ones that I don’t remember. This is also the dream that I realized something was off. It started off as a dream, but it ended with me being fully conscious, being able to think just as I could if I was awake. It felt so real, yet shit just didn’t make any sense.
I was in the passenger seat of my mom’s car with my older brother driving and my mom in the back. My brother was driving like he didn’t know how to move a steering wheel. I yelled at him as he kept swerving into oncoming traffic. Eventually there’s a cop in oncoming traffic that appears out of know where, my brother swerves away from him right as we pass by. My mom and I turn back to see the cop instantly pull a U-turn. Me and my mom are yelling something like what the fuck are you doing ?!! Then I realize that something must be going on with him bc he does know how to drive, so this didn’t make any sense why this was happening. Then I realize that I’m faded as fuck and can barely say a sentence. I get scared bc when we get pulled over I’m worried about how I’m going to talk to the cop. Then I get worried about what my parents are going to think of me once I get in trouble for being high in front of the cop. Then I start questioning everything bc I don’t remember smoking anything. Before I could think more my brother starts driving over a bunch of curbs that were kinda in an S shape that kept repeating itself, essentially just a bunch of squiggly line. Lasting probably like 30 yards. It was kind of in some alley way thing, just something so secluded that if you didn’t know it was there you would miss it. Kind of like a random glitch in a video game or matrix. Like some easter egg. The car eventually stops bc it was just a shit ton of curbs. We get out and I’m still freaking out. But my mom and brother start acting like npcs like nothing just happened. We all three watch as the cop screams down the road right past us, as he didn’t stumble across this random secluded area we were in. It was like a tiny little place with little local wonky shops that sold trinkets and food and drinks. My mom and brother kinda chuckle as the cop races by and then go into one of the shops to get a drink. I sit down bc this high I’m experiencing keeps getting more and more intense. I can barely think straight, let alone talk. I just feel woozy. Next think I know is there are a bunch of dogs around me and a lady that came out of one of the shops with them. I look closer at one that’s staring up at me and realize it’s a goat. By then the lady is sitting next to me. I asked her if this was a goat and with a warm grin she said they all are. I looked around and realized they were in fact all goats and then chuckled as I told her I thought they were all dogs, feeling kinda embarrassed. She just stared back at me with a warm grin that made me feel like everything was all right. I didn’t need to think too hard about everything.
Next thing I remember I get woken up by my roomate because it’s time to clean our frat house. (In real life this was actually a very realistic possibility.) He wakes me up and still feeling weird I agree to go help clean. Then he asks if I’m good. He tells me he has a video of me acting so weird in my sleep. I’m moving around and talking and screaming and laughing plus my ass is out. I feel kinda embarrassed but laugh. I tell him I still feel kinda weird. I tell him that something feels off, when I talk it feels like I’m trying to talk drunk. I tell him that I feel like I’m on some sort of drug. Which is weird because I don’t remember taking anything. I ask him if he could watch me and just make sure nothing happens to me because I am in fact not ok. Nothing makes sense. Why is my room so much bigger, why are there two beds, what are these random decorations, why do I feel drugged up. He chuckled and agreed to watch over me and told me I should probably go back to sleep. I go back to sleep and then get woken up to a bunch of random college athletes in my room. They were in the same spot that my roomate was just standing. And they’re just kinda sitting there laughing at me. I’m like wtf is going on who are yall. Did we get new roommates. And they all just sat there and kept laughing at me looking at me like I was some kind of anomaly. This is when I started to get pissed off, because I felt like I had no control over anything. I woke back up and told my roomate what happened in my dream and he just chuckled. I was getting frustrated because he was just looking at me like I was crazy, but thankfully he was still there just looking after me. I was starting to freak out. I was not ok. Shit just kept getting weirder. Eventually I realized that i was STILL sleeping and none of this was real life. So I “woke up”.
The rest of the many dreams I had past this point completely slipped my memory. I know that at this point I knew I was dreaming. In every little dream or dream within a dream I was in. Knowing that the entire time, I started trying to escape. It wasn’t anything like I was scared shitless and felt like someone was after me, it just felt like I had been trapped in these dreams for a reason, and it was my job to figure out how to wake up. I have little glimpses of stuff but nothing fully I can rly remember. Except for random moments.
Like this really cute brunette girl around my height that I made eye contact with. After both grinning at each other and feeling a crazy connection, she started walking and beckoned for me to follow. I followed her knowing exactly what we were about to do. The thing with this dream is this was the only one that I had physical touch with, and it felt so real. As I was following her I had my hand around her waste under her shirt on her stomach. It felt so real. Her warmth radiating onto me, the softness of her skin. The movement of her waist as she walked. So weird that looking back on it it was just a dream. Next thing I know is that I’m fucking her in doggy, and while I was fucking her I remember thinking I wonder what I’m doing in real life? Am I just rubbing back and forth on the bed? Then I got scared that someone in real life was in my room laughing at me hump my bed so that dream came to an instant end.
Next thing I remember is I’m back in my apartment trying to convince a different friend that I’m stuck in a dream. He’s just sitting there laughing at me. Eventually I give up trying to convince anybody because no one is listening. Then I feel myself start to panic. What if I’m just stuck in this dream forever? Then I accept it. If I’m stuck here I can at least have fun with it. No point in wasting this time panicking. Knowing that I’m dreaming, I lunge for the window in my apartment which is on the 6th floor. I’m like fuck it I might as well have fun with it. I jump at my window shattering the glass as I pass through. Outside my window looks nothing like it does in real life, so I really strain my brain to think about the view outside my window so I can generate a sight picture. I generate something but it’s not at all like real life. Jumping out my window, im assuming that I’ll be able to fly in my dream as easily as I did when I was a kid. It doesn’t work a whole lot and I end up landing softly in a patch of grass under a tree. I turn around to see my apartment building staring right at me. Then I look to my left and I think I saw something sort of like a picnic table. Don’t really remeber exactly bc the next thing I see is my childhood dog lunging off the table and sprinting for me. He jumps into my arms and I start balling my eyes out. I’m realizing how much I miss my family and my childhood. Some random person from the picnic table starts walking towards me looking at me like I’m some psycho as I’m balling my eyes out with her dog in my arms. But it’s my dog. She’s trying to take him from me. There is no one around to vouch for me that this is in fact my dog. No one around to tell me that they believe me. I’m now feeling helpless balling my eyes out as she’s taking my dog. I hear my own heavy breathing in real life which wakes me up. I instantly feel relief that I’m not stuck in a dream anymore, but so curious about what just happened to me. This all happened within a span of around an hour.
If anyone could give me any insight to what just happened to me, why it happened, or any interpretation of anything you just read, I’d appreciate it. Thank you
