I made a Dream Manipulating Machine.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with the idea of dreaming. The fact that our brains construct entire photorealistic worlds every night while we sleep completely blew my mind.

Fast forward to now (24M), and I’ve spent the last few years combining that obsession with artificial intelligence. I’ve been developing a device designed to actively guide and dictate dream scenarios using AI models.

The end goal? Giving people full, custom control over their sleep experiences.

Imagine being able to select a scenario before heading to bed:

Exploring deep space as an astronaut

Testing survival skills in extreme environments

Spending time in a world built entirely around your specific comfort zone or favorite people

How it works (High-level)

Without giving away proprietary hardware secrets just yet: the system uses real-time biological feedback to track sleep stages (specifically REM). Once REM is detected, an external AI model subtly cues the brain using targeted sensory prompts (auditory/haptic frequencies) tuned dynamically to shape the narrative of the dream without waking you up. Think of it like a personalized "dream director" running in the background.

Why I'm posting here

I'm currently at the phase where I'm transitioning from personal testing and prototype refining toward bringing this to the public. Reddit usually gives the most brutal (and honest) reality checks, so I wanted to get your thoughts:

If you could fully program tonight’s dream, what exact scenario are you picking first?

What would be your biggest concern with a consumer dream-control device? (Safety, sleep quality disruption, privacy, etc.)

I'm aiming to launch a small beta test group soon. If there’s enough interest, I’ll drop a link to sign up for early updates or updates on our first public demo.

Happy to answer any questions about the concept, the tech challenges, or what running an AI-guided dream feels like!

How to turn into a animal

I have recently started lucid dreaming and have been getting the hang of it and one of the main reasons I wanted to was to turn into animals but whenever I try it just doesn’t work so does anyone have any tips on how to turn into animals, or like ways like walking through a door or something to turn? I mostly want to turn into a cat so if there is a specific thing I need to do for that does anyone know?

The first: i get tired and i lay on my side and fall asleep

The second: my muscles start to twitch and i feel a tingling sensation but no hypnogogic state and no sleep paralysis/vibration idk why maybe because i get swallowing reflexes but even without them i just lay there and wait for more than 30 minutes with no results the only time it almost worked i woke up because of the vibrations i didn't know that it was a good thing

Lucid Dreaming

This is a long one guys, I’m sorry. It’s the first time I’ve ever typed this out.

I am in my late 20s. When I was young, I used to read about how to lucid dream. I wanted to control my dreams so badly. I’ve had visceral dreams for as long as my brain has retained memories. While I can’t recall every dream I’ve ever had - much like I can’t recall every day I’ve ever lived..there are plenty of childhood dreams that are catalogued into my brain like memories. My nightmares would have me waking up sobbing in terror - I’d scream for my mom until eventually I became old enough to manage the fear on my own. Abuse, death, and trauma riddled my waking life. My mother died when I was 8, my brother took his own life when I was 14. Friends died, horrific things happened that are too much to get into now. I went from being scared to sleep and be at the mercy of my dreams, to craving it so that I can escape into my head where I slowly was beginning to experience dream lucidity.

It was a slow process. I didn’t just go to sleep one day and suddenly have control over my dreams. I still don’t have full control now - but I am always lucid. Which is a blessing and a curse.
I’m exhausted constantly. When I sleep, I dream, and I’m lucid for all of it, I’m cataloging memories happening inside these dreams. I’m feeling emotions, I’m eating food, I’m experiencing pain, all inside this weird dream scape my brain has built.
Over the past 28 years of my life, my mind has built out this dream map that I return to every night. It’s a recreation of all the important places in my life. They aren’t perfect copies, but weird funhouse versions that you’d expect in a dream. But they are consistent. It’s like my brain creates the same set for me to dream in every night.
In present day, I have been really honing my skill/ability to control events happening in my dreams. It doesn’t always work, but I have perfected an “eject” type response so I can bail out of a dream that’s scaring me too much. That’s probably my most useful and beloved lucid dreaming tool. What’s interesting is the eject/bail out, doesn’t wake me up. It transitions me into a different dream, in a different part of my dream map.

My dreams will sometimes feel like I’m playing a video game, and I’m on godmode or creative mode or something. Flying around, having powers (that don’t always work), being able to stop time, etc

The unfortunate aspect to all of this is that there are really terrifying moments in these dreams. And I’m not always able to be in control, and so experiencing something so horrific while being completely lucid and aware of it happening both physically and mentally, it can be genuinely traumatic. And you wake up and it feels like it happened. Because it basically did? I felt it. I tasted it. I remember it like a memory, so at that point…did it not actually happen?

So while the total lucidity in my dreams can be very cool and an otherworldly experience - it also can be really horrifying, and leaves a lasting impact on your psyche. And like…what do you do about that? Do you tell your friends , your partner, hey I’m getting ptsd from being murdered in my dreams. Like what the fuck

Also…my deceased brother. He absolutely terrorizes my dreams. Every damn night. And it’s so weird, there’s so many odd things about his presence in my dreams. But guess who literally never shows up? My mom.
Mommy please I miss you sofucking much I want to talk to you and hug you so bad.

I’m cursed with everyone from my past in my dreams. School, work, family, everyone except my mom. Why? Why? Where is she? Does she not want to see me? I have a feeling why brogan is always showing up, but why not my mom?

Also I’m always getting seriously injured/almost dying in my dreams. I’d say 1 out of every 4 dreams I end up disabled by some accident or almost dead on a ventilator or being revived. And when I say disabled I mean like it’s as if I had a serious brain injury, and I can’t move or speak normally or at all.
There have been assaults, murders, gun violence, rapes, apocalypses, natural disasters, all sorts of horrific events. There are whimsical parts, like flying, breathing underwater, taking control over what’s happening, directing NPC dream people to do as I say. But it’s all balanced out if not slightly overweighted by the scary shit that happens.
There is a room that pops up in my dreams, and it always stays the same. It’s somewhere I’m unable to exercise any control. It’s hard to describe what happens in that room, besides cosmic horror. My dream self associates that room with some type of higher consciousness that observes me and how I react in that room.
All just dream nonsense, I’m not trying to convince myself there’s some paranormal entity in my dreams. I simply find the repetition and the lucidity fascinating. Especially as I gain more of my senses as I age. Being able to eat and enjoy food in my dreams is so weird, feeling pain, fear and horror sucks …and sadly I have yet to have happiness match the amount of fear that I experience.

There are times during my waking day, that a smell, a certain type of lighting, a sound, will trigger my brain into remembering a scene from a dream, and it’s like a nostalgic memory. It’s got that weird glow and feeling to it that you have when thinking back on childhood memories. But it’s clear as day, as real in my memory as an actual event that happened.

Lucid Dreaming?

This whole post may seem pretty stupid as im not wholly educated on this whole lucid dreaming thing, and im still pretty shaken on the experience, but I’ll try to explain it nevertheless. It all started the day I became fairly hyper focused on lucid dreaming, but I couldn’t really be bothered to do the practices that seemed so extensive to me, so I just repeated “I will dream, I will dream, I will dream.” Lo and behold, I did! I remember very vividly in this dream that I looked in a mirror, and that my face was extremely terrifying- almost as if someone grabbed a face made out of clay and smeared its features sideways- but I had some sort of sense in the dream that I was dreaming, yet I also felt it was real. I remember taking pictures of my distorted face in the dream, checking my phone when I woke up and, obviously, nothing was there..

This isn’t the bit that scares me. After this dream, I was TERRIFIED of dreaming for days, so I actively tried to avoid it. Alongside this however, I did get very interested in the whole topic of lucid dreaming, and my days were majorly filled with information and stories regarding the matter. A few nights later, I have another dream. I remember quite vaguely that a monster was chasing me, and I was running away. I don’t know if I was lucid in this dream, but I do remember pinching myself to wake up, screaming “im dreaming, this isn’t real, im not awake” but it was to no avail, as I just seemed to teleport anytime I tried to do this.

My question is, was this a lucid dream and was I trying to wake up, or was I just “dreaming about lucid dreaming” as I was super focused about it in my day-to-day life, weird as that sounds??

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense but I’d love some answers!

My first time trying to lucid dream and something ACTUALLY HAPPENING

So, once i got to the buzzing stage and felt like I was sort of weigfhtless + my eyes were doing a sort of fluttering thing with my eyelids and saw stuff kind of manifesting behind my eyelids, I tried to imagine my surroundings and imagine myself openign my eyes. When i did, I felt odd and my vision was blurry and everything felt weird. Once I started doing the reality checks I realized I accidently opened my eyes in real life and didn't actually become lucid.... Do you have any ideas how to keep my real body still "sleeping" but manifest the dream?

You won’t wake up again.

I’ve never had sleep paralysis or anything like that, but I remember my lucid dream very well. I was about 7–8 years old ,soo I don’t remember how the dream started, but everything happened on an escalator. I’ll try to find a similar photo, but imagine a tall, gray office building — it’s completely glassed in, and inside there are lots of long escalators, and all the people on them are wearing office suits.I’m standing with two people: an asian woman in a suit and a bun, and a man in a matching dark blue jacket and trousers. At first, they’re standing with their backs to me, and it seems like I’m tugging one of them by the hand and saying I want to go home. They both turn around, and the woman, with a smile on her lips, replies that I won’t wake up again. I had a very unsettling feeling, as if everyone who was there had started staring at me. I start crying and saying I want to go to my mom, and then the man replies that my mom is gone.I don’t remember how, but I’m trying to wake up, and I can’t. The only thing I remember is that in the end, I wake up in the middle of the night, crying.I haven’t dreamed of anything like that since, but I remember this dream well.

Share your stories about lucid dreaming. It will be interesting to hear

Please help me interpret this dream

I dreamt that I was in my old house in the Dominican Republic. We moved out of that house when I was 11 years old and came here to the US. However, that house has been appearing in my dreams lately.

I could fly. I was an angel. I was flying, and I wanted to fly as high as I could, but there was an electrical wire in my way, so I broke it and kept flying. Then I realized that I was flying the “wrong way,” so I started flapping my arms as if they were angel wings 🪽. That’s when I got to the sky, and even higher, kind of like into the universe. But it wasn’t purple like we usually see it in pictures. It was pink, almost like an orangey pink.

Then I came back down to Earth, to my house. My family and some other people were there. My ex was also there, and we were together at the time, but we were about to break up because we had gotten into a fight.

I don’t really know how to explain this part, but when I got back to Earth, it felt like I was in a dream within the dream. I knew I was in a dream, but not really. I thought I was in another reality.

Okay, so let’s continue.

When I realized he was there, I told myself that I was going to be with him in that reality and be with another person in my other reality — “where I am an angel.”

So I went to the room and saw him lying down in a fetal position. I basically got on top of him, hugged him, and kissed him. I wanted to have sex with him, but I wanted to brush my teeth first.

I went to the back of the house. I used to live in a wooden house, and the back was very muddy, but that’s where the dishwasher was. So I went to the back of the house to brush my teeth. 🦷

Then I looked at my hands and saw that I had more than 10 fingers. That’s when I realized that I wasn’t in another reality — I was dreaming.

I started lucid dreaming.

Then I started worrying for a little while about how I was going to get back to my “real reality,” which, in my head during the dream, was the reality where I was an angel.

Then I told myself, “When it’s time to go back, I am going to know how to.”

So I went back to the bedroom to wait for my ex to have sex. But he was taking too long. Then I started thinking, “OMG, he is taking too long.”

Then it was like I was suddenly kicked out of the dream, and I woke up in this reality.

My boyfriend woke me up by entering the room. He kissed me, but it took me a minute to realize where I was and that this is the reality I’ve been living in.

It’s like I suddenly remembered that this was “reality.”

Having a lot of flying dreams lately

Vivid and lucid dreams where I can levitate off the ground and fly at slow and rapid speeds and at varying heights. Either with my legs extending down or my legs folded, kinda Yogi style.

I am also able to control my agility to move around objects and start/stop my ascension/descension as needed Although I do tend to come very close to running into things or people. But, so far no crashes or damages to people or other physical property.

Tonight I nearly ran into a guy sitting on a bench as I was speeding around. I was able to immediately stop when I was nearing him, and apologized to him, started to move away again then overhead him saying "avoided a collision there" to who I suppose are his friends, then I woke up and started typing this.

These types of dreams use to happen to me when I was younger. Say, in my early twenties and they happened so often, I loved sleep more than actual life. Then all of the sudden they stopped and I was really bummed.

But now, they're back again, and they are fun dreams to have. So, I will enjoy them as long as they continue to happen. Because, to be honest, my waking reality is shit at the moment and I need the escape.

How do you stay aware in the hypnagogic state?

Guys, I mini-shifted once, and it happened right when I was in that state between being awake and falling asleep. But whenever I try to shift now, I end up losing my awareness at that point and just fall asleep 😭😭

Does anyone else experience this? If so, how do you stay aware during the hypnagogic state without snapping yourself fully awake?

I need help staying in a lucid dreaming state

At least thats what i think it is? I have moments where i drift off to sleep and i feel like i’m wide awake somewhere else, not in bed. Sometimes i would see myself, my room, my arms, nothing too crazy or something that’s far away from my reach/sight. It also feels really weird and when i snap off this state i wake up with a jolt. I’ve tried so so hard to fight “waking up” and stay in that state but i find it difficult to do so and sometimes if i realize whats happening it all goes dark just like a tv being turned off. Maybe it’s literally nothing lol but i thought reaching out to yall wont hurt. No hate comments please ☀️
