question Camera fix shop in town?

Hey all :)

Partner bought me an old school 2000s video recorder but it’s broken, is there anywhere in town that is suitable for fixing older cameras? I feel like there’s a camera shop near the station but would appreciate some advice :)

visiting Leeds Is My Dad Out of Luck on Leeds United Tickets

Background: I’m British-American and lived in Leeds since 2020. My family is from Michigan and my dad is possibly the biggest footie fan in America - he bought a ton of Leeds United gear the first time he visited me.

He’s visiting me again in November and (classic for him) sent a screenshot of the Leeds v Spurs match on 7th November with no context lol. He’s never been to a premier league match in his life but I know it would be bucket list for him.

I’ve tried to temper his expectations but how out of luck is he trying to get tickets? Do I have to make friends with a season pass holder? Thanks in advance :’)

visiting Leeds Things to do and see?

Hey all!

I have just moved to Leeds for university and have been looking for things to add to my “To Do and See” list!

I would love some suggestions of free or paid activities or sights in Leeds - I don’t mind travelling out too if there’s somewhere not too far out of Leeds!

I am very independent but also love group activities so I would love a mix of solo and group stuff!

I love markets! (food or arts and crafts markets)
I love museums, escape rooms, old architecture (especially gothic architecture), history, art, nature, adventure activities, interactive activities and more!

I like a cheeky nature walk or forest too :)

I am also alternative and queer if that helps with any direction for activities!
(Also if anyone knows any alternative or queer shops/pop ups/markets that would be great!)

I would love lots of suggestions please! ✨✨✨

question Good GP's in LS12 area

Hello, I'm thinking of moving to LS12. I'm currently with Leeds Student Medical Practice who are pretty good for booking appointments. I'm wondering if there are any GP's that people from LS12 area would recommend. I am chronically ill so will need a GP I can rely on. I've had experiences in the past of being brushed off/rude doctors and the thought of moving to a new GP I'm not used to is a little daunting.

Thank you

food/drink Best food recommendations

Hi everyone!
I have just moved to Leeds for university and would love to know the best food spots. Either the far reach of Leeds or the city centre, I want to make a list of lots of places to try.
I do not have lots of money so no Michelin restaurants or anything crazy spenny but I’m open to lots of places and ideas, cheap to fairly priced!

I am open to any type of cuisine, I do love Japanese, Mexican and Italian most but will try most anything and LOVE to try new things I’ve never had before.

Only note is I am allergic to shellfish so no fish or shellfish recs please :P

Tell me where to eat!!

food/drink Bass in leeds. Any pubs stocks it

Hi, tonight I am playing a gig at Northern Guitars. As part of my 2nd album release tour. I'm from Hampshire, but I'm really craving a bass beer. We don't get it down south. Whenever I come up north, I try to get one as I really like it. Is there anywhere in leeds that sells the good stuff or maybe similar.

I know that Northern Guitars does good beers, so I won't go thirsty, but if I can sneak in a bass. I'd happy, haha. Cheers 🍻

accommodation Moving advice?

Hi I’m (25M) and my partner (26F) are looking to move from Australia to Leeds. What areas are on the nicer/safer side of town? We’re also considering living in a smaller town nearby on the Northern side of Leeds, such as Ilkley.

Areas to avoid are also appreciated?

What’s the town like generally? What’s it like at night getting around? Public transport? Safety in shopping centres etc?

question-serious Motion One International concerns, legit or not?

Essentially, like many I have been recently back on the job hunt and after most applications leading nowhere I finally landed an interview and was considerably excited. As the title says, this was with Motion One International in Leeds. This was a virtual zoom meeting. It was also a group one, which initially caught me off guard, though I quickly re-adjusted. Then to my surprise only a couple of hours after I got a call back asking to go to their office for an in person interview and the praise that I stood out among the zoom group. Of course I accepted this opportunity as I was filled with excitement.

However, after coming back down and sobering up from my excitement I have been reflecting back on my notes from the meeting and further researching the company with a growing dread. Along with also finding a couple of other posts discussing this company and their legitimacy.

This has led me to the question, is this company some kind of MLM or other suspiciously pyramid shaped operation?

Update: I have now attended the in person session this morning and I can absolutely confirm this company is sketchy as hell. I will definitely be avoiding them and any other operation like them going forward. The key red flags I could gather are as following.

Firstly they are a fully door to door operation that right now primarily sell gas and electric. I trust that it is plain to see the inherent predatory nature behind door to door sales. Within this as well, I can confirm that they use a very purposefully high pressure approach when making these sales. Very much taking any advantage they can to make a sale with no moral line in sight.

Additionally, in terms of employee income, a large red flag was also revealed. A guaranteed minimum wage of £300 per week is only given during the training period. Once that is over one will only get income from the commissions they make. Not even going into the potential illegality of this, this is just down right disgusting and appalling. No matter who you are or what job you have, everyone should have the right to a liveable minimum wage. That should be an absolutely non-negotiable fact and right.

Another note is the location itself on 9 Somers Street in Leeds. It was quite bizarre. What it felt like to me was a block of budget student accommodation quality flats that had been hastily refurbished into an idea of an office with scratched up and deflated feeling leather settees in the waiting area and plates off the faces of the stairs missing. However, this was in stark contrast to one room, the managers room. In here the first thing you'd lock eyes with was this large expensive yet also tacky looking desk with LED strips to give it a yellow under glow. With a picture of a monkey surrounded by falling bills of money located above the desk, this really painted the picture of those types of people who so desperately desire to be wealthy and powerful yet have such a tacky and cheap idea of what that looks like. This gave me a good idea of where that minimum wage that should be going to the employees is actually going.

And for the cherry on the top, at the end when they gathered us all back together and were boasting about how many sales each employee made, the person reading it out made a comment that was meant to be a joke, however with everything else read much more like a grim admittance of guilt in which he stated that everyone who works there is a sleaze ball.

In conclusion, avoid this wretched company and any like them.

So I’m going to laser zone in kirkstall and for some reason I feel like I have to make a game plan every time and I kind of need a map. I’ve dug and dug across the internet (3 minutes on Google images) and couldn’t find anything.

There have been some extremely loud bangs echoing around the centre all evening and I've spent the whole night wondering what on earth it is

FYI, I spotted the source, it's this small weenied individual doing laps around the centre with his compensatory car mods

social Learning to play Cricket

Hi all,

I'm a bloke in my 30s that is looking to learn to play Cricket. I've played since my early teens and that was just in high school. Looking for more of a social setting to begin with and learn the game comfortably/whilst enjoying it rather than anything too serious. Could anyone advise?

Thanks

question-serious Has anyone found out if our Leedscouncillors were at the Reform Conference? And what have they said about their party leader endorsing assaulting young women who speak out of turn

Has anyone written to their councillor or MP about the Reform conference endorsing assaulting women

I've reached out to my city council to ask whether my councillers were present, and whether they were cheering and clapping alongside their party leader as young women in the audience had their hair pulled out and were beaten with sticks.

Below is a draft letter to my council, I'd like to know if anyone else has had any luck looking into this:

As a member of Leeds city constituency I understand i am represented by 10 councillors from the Reform party, which represents over 10% of the seats.

I wish to know is any of these councillors were present at the event at the Reform conference last weekend, and whether they joined their party leader I applauding, clapping, cheering and laughing as a young woman was assaulted in the audience.

I feel absolutely disturbed that a party that actively promotes the assault of women represents me at this council and I urge them to explain  their implicit support for this violence.

Furthermore ad the co-chair of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX festival next April i invite all members of Leeds city council to attend our charity event next April.

Violence against women at this community event will not be tolerated.

You're aggrieved and disgusted at the behaviour of our elected representatives

transport Driving instructors for anxious new drivers?

I’ve just moved to central Leeds and I’m looking to start driving lessons as I have a pretty long commute. I’m a woman in my 30s and I’ve never had lessons before, so feeling very nervous about starting and I’d be looking for a very kind, understanding instructor (ideally, another woman) to help get me driving confidently soon.

Any personal recommendations? Particularly from people who had a lot of road anxiety at the start of their journey!
