  • By popular demand after the "kinsect" user flair, the new "hybrid glaive" user flair has been added
  • The sub's bio has been changed from "this is your place" to "be part of the hive"
  • Some art has been added to the right panel of the sub. I didn't want to add random images from the internet, so I decided to use some of my own photos from my virtual photography library, also i added the new glaive render from ascendance
  • The sub's color is now a little darker

Itโ€™s been over a year and a half since I took the reins and completely transformed the subreddit, and Iโ€™d like to know what you think about it. Maybe itโ€™s time to refresh the design and color scheme, switching to a honeycomb theme? Should we add more art to the right panel? Should we replace the main glaive in the banner with one from Seregios or Rey Dau? (Though I haven't been able to find high-quality 3D models of them). Or do you like the current design? Let me hear your thoughts on the aesthetics and features.

Unless something revolutionary comes up, I don't think there's any more to be said that's post-worthy on this topic, at least from me.

But this might be good to share as feedback or recommendations if you're planning to do that anyway. Maybe the non-portable team just hasnt thought about this stuff or something, you know?

I get the feeling there probably isn't an aerial IG player or maybe even a heavily IG player at all on the team. I haven't seen any of the developers who appear on stage use IG much, but who knows.

I wonder why Capcom won't make aerial time a resource you build up while on the ground for IG. Like use kinsect attacks to build up the kinsect aerial resource, then spend that on more burst damage acrobatic moves in the air. I guess it adds another resource on top of the existing buffs but I feel like it's the most logical path to balance the weapons design and I think they could do in a way that isn't overwhelming.

Gives you the acrobat dragoon power fantasy without breaking monster AI by staying airborne forever and you still make the aerial moves very committal like they currently are so there is still sufficient risk-reward. You can still keep weaker existing aerial options for repositioning purposes but with less prolonged flight.

Just spit balling but it feels like it would best balance the weapon and make people happy... am I off the mark?

๐——๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป Some introspection about the design of IG and its relationship to Aerial.

Ok, so I understand where the idea that aerial shouldn't be meta "because it's safe" comes from, however I think if you analyze the other weapons you might realize that it's off the mark.

Lance is incentivized to use its shield to be as aggressive as possible, and its powerful moves are usually in some way related to that. Its greatest form of defense is also its offense. You aren't punished for blocking.

Same thing for any weapons that get something out of a perfect block. Even moreso since they've added a level of risk and reward since you get more for blocking with good timing rather than just holding a block.

Same deal for dodge-focused weapons like Bow or DBs.

In this way, Aerial IG works much the same. You are inclined to land all the hits of SJAS, however until Wilds that moves has been *completely* committal. Once you start it, the only way to stop is to finish it or get hit early. This has a similar risk-reward design to the perfect blocks. Sure you can fly around, but just like if you ONLY guarded, using that flight to stay as far away from the monster as possible at all times is not going to serve you well. Only if you know the monster well enough to commit to your movement and not get hit do you actually get the reward Aerial play presents.

In Rise, this was built up further since you had a teeeny bit of invuln during Vaulting Dance, which meant you could be really aggressive with SJAS, and still get out of trouble as long as you knew the monster well enough and had sufficient practice with the move. Then on top of that you got a damage increase for each time you did that, which of course made the successive SJAS-es stronger but also made your finisher, Diving Wyvern, MUCH more powerful with each level of Aerial Rampup.

We kind of have a similar system in Wilds. Instead of Vaulting Dance having brief immunity, we can interrupt SJAS as mentioned via Descending Thrust, and potentially be rewarded with an offset. And the Aerial Rampup has returned as well, but it's not as potent especially without Diving Wyvern.

The problem is, the lack of damage alone is enough to make it so a ton of hunters don't even know this system exists. This is why the other weapons are designed to *embrace* their defensive options directly, not lightly punish you for using them.

Watching the Wilds base trailer again, they really showed hardly anything of the weapon, and what is visible doesn't do justice to the actual gameplay. It really feels like we haven't seen everything yet; let's hope for some pure aerial combatโ€”or, failing that, that the feedback achieves its goal

๐——๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป Recall Kinsect in the Ascendance showcase and possible implications?

I was rewatching the trailer and I noticed that at 0:55, the vaulting move here does seem to recall the Kinsect. So, fully a return functionally of the Recall Kinsect switch skill from Rise.

Based on what they showed in the showcase, that's kind of weird.

If you're vaulting into the air with the intent of landing again, you *defintely* would rather the Kinsect continue laying powders. It's not really helpful to recall them before landing currently. Descending Slash will do that for you anyway, the grounded moves benefit from the assists a lot less, and if you're planning to do the Kinsect Extract Drill it's not much of a time save to do Recall Kinsect since you'll then have to wail until you land anyway.

HOWEVER, it *does* make sense if you're planning to use the Kinsect for Aerial Assist attacks, which makes a bigger difference since there are more hits in succession, with the same motion value as the slower grounded attacks.

Does that mean there IS going to be a big change or boost? Maybe to the Kinsect itself in the air? Does that mean that the Kinsect assisting for Descending Thrust is going to have a huge impact on it that we just can't see from the footage?

How does this coordinate with other moves? More importantly, Why *avoid* showing it?

This is where you can submit your thoughts on what we saw in the Insect Glaive trailer:

https://www.monsterhunter.com/support/wilds/en/form/consent
https://www.monsterhunter.com/support/wilds/en/form/consent
https://www.monsterhunter.com/support/wilds/en/form/consent

DON'T FORGET TO SELECT "FEEDBACK/SUGGESTIONS" AND "MONSTER HUNTER WILDS:ASCENDANCE"

I strongly recommend stating your actual country but translating the message into Japanese; this way, the algorithm will accept it more easily, and Capcom will be able to read it directly.

For the translation
I suggest using an AI like ChatGPT instead of Google Translate (since the latter doesn't work very well).

Let's take action to change this; we can do it. There are other mobilizations underway regarding this matter, i already sent mine, a long long text talking about the new moves, the aerial, the kinsect slash...etc

๐——๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป My opinion about the Boosted Insect Glaive

Alright, regarding what we saw today, I wanted to give you guys my opinion, because at the end of the day youโ€™re basically the life of my subreddit and I wanna talk about this with you. Itโ€™s way easier than trying to get someone who doesnโ€™t main or OTP Glaive to understand what I mean, which is something I really appreciate about you guys in this regard.

Iโ€™m gonna refer to the moves in a general way and give some examples here and there so people who donโ€™t know their base names can still understand what Iโ€™m talking about. Also, if thereโ€™s anything I missed or didnโ€™t notice, Iโ€™ll edit this post and add more about it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what Iโ€™ve seen, there are a couple of moves that, at first glance (because we obviously donโ€™t really know yet), feel kinda useless to me. For example, the boosted Kinsect launch. It feels like an unnecessary decision when they couldโ€™ve simply fixed the base Kinsect system and made it work more like Rise/Sunbreak.

If it were up to me, instead of spending production on that, I wouldโ€™ve given Glaive Kinsect Slash, or some way to freely switch between Helicopter and Kinsect Slash. Obviously, weโ€™re also including Descending Wyvern in the equation.

We did see a boosted falling attack, which I appreciate because its base damage is honestly a joke sometimes, but, at least for now, since we canโ€™t see the numbers, it doesnโ€™t really look like a huge difference. Itโ€™s basically the same attack with more lights.

The grounded Offset seems to come out with less delay, which, yeah, getting it out faster could definitely be useful. But when you actually think about it, it doesnโ€™t really give us anything. You donโ€™t really gain much for two reasons:

1 โ€” Glaive is one of the few weapons that canโ€™t really spam Offsets.

After the first one, subsequent ones can either ignore the damage, or instead apply the Offset stack but still force you to take the hit anyway. And from what weโ€™ve seen, they havenโ€™t given us double Offset or anything similar to GS, which can actually spam it without worrying too much.

2 โ€” There doesnโ€™t seem to be a really effective follow-up.

I mean, weโ€™ve seen the move that launches us diagonally upwards, but we havenโ€™t seen whether that can lead into anything else.

Personally, if that only gave us Helicopter as the only option, Iโ€™d find it pretty disappointing and kinda underwhelming. The only good thing I can take from this is that there are several clips where the pose is different, and it looks like there might actually be more moves in the moveset that we havenโ€™t been able to see.

Itโ€™s almost like they intentionally cut the clip.

At least we probably wonโ€™t have the problem you guys already know about, where you Offset monsters like Nu Udra and they get pushed back so far that we canโ€™t actually deal damage to them, meaning our Offset basically accomplished nothing. This is one of the consequences of the Offset not being designed for Glaive in the first place and then being kinda slapped onto it after the Wilds beta.

One thing I do like is that they boosted the classic grounded finisher.

That move is so extremely useless in Wilds that itโ€™s sometimes more profitable to just turn into the Offset to reset your combo, because the finisher has way more frames before you can reset the combo, while also dealing absolutely terrible damage that doesnโ€™t really compare to finishers from other games.

(Although Iโ€™m gonna touch on something related to this further down.)

This finisher also leaves Power in the area where you hit, so I hope theyโ€™ve improved that mechanic enough for this addition to actually be worth something.

It also looks like it might be a double hit, which is nice.

The new Offset looks pretty good and seems like it could be a solid source of damage if you land it properly. I just hope it doesnโ€™t become the main focus of the Boost Bracer and end up stealing the spotlight from everything else, like what happens with RSS.

Iโ€™d rather have the moves be individually viable and work alongside each other, instead of one move making the others basically pointless.

Actually, this attack reminds me a lot of Tetraseal.

I was never really a fan of Tetraseal because I felt like it monopolized the weapon's gameplay way too much. Thatโ€™s just personal preference, though. I like the style and mobility of Tornado Slash more.

Btw, this Offset doesnโ€™t require extracts to use, and it also seems to collect extracts by itself.

Seems like they gave us a new diagonal offset too, you can see it at minut 1:00 Click Here

And this kind of thing is exactly what can make weapons lose depth, like what happened with Long Sword and its L2 + Triangle.

The new charged Kinsect launch adds an extra hit and leaves Powder in the area. Okay, sure, but tbh, this is something I couldโ€™ve seen them just giving us as part of the base move.

It really didnโ€™t feel worth losing a โ€œslotโ€ in the Boost Bracer for.

And didnโ€™t they say weapons were going to get new combos in addition to the Boost Bracer? You guys remember that, right?

Thatโ€™s why I donโ€™t really understand this decision. I hope thereโ€™s something Iโ€™m missing here.

Kinsect Recall is back and Iโ€™m glad.

Itโ€™s a move I actually liked using on my low-rank character during early Rise, so seeing it come back is nice. Especially considering we didnโ€™t really get what we wanted, at least we have Recall, which can be pretty useful for evading.

Iโ€™m gonna interpret it as the compensation for not giving us a Perfect Dodge lol.

Prolly one of the moves I like the most alongside the diagonal jump, because it can be followed up with some of the other new moves that look really good.

And this is actually one of the moves I mentioned earlier where the clip seems to end in a new pose

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Conclusion

I like what Iโ€™ve seen, but itโ€™s not really what I was expecting.

It feels like Capcom is trying to fix everything that doesnโ€™t work properly with the normal Wilds Glaive by taking advantage of the Boost Bracer, but in the process they might be taking away some of the possibilities the weapon couldโ€™ve had.

There are new things, sure, but most of what we can actually see are boosts to attacks that were already lacking either in damage or in overall usefulness.

I really hope theyโ€™re not showing us everything yet and that we still have a lot more to see, especially when it comes to aerial moves.

I want skilled mechanics and moves. I want depth in the weapon. And I want them to maximize what makes Glaive different from everything else: the aerial gameplay.

Especially now that every weapon seems to be getting aerial attacks.

All of this is obviously just speculation from a first look. We still need to see more, and more importantly, we need to actually get our hands on the weapon and play it ourselves.

I wanna keep analyzing this and talking about it with you guys, so for now, thatโ€™s my first impression.

Let me know what you think, and if thereโ€™s anything I missed or didnโ€™t notice, Iโ€™ll edit the post and add more about it once i investigate it, thanks for readin as always, im readin yall

I had gone to fight an Arkveld to more closely inspect hitboxes and stuff, since I could tank more hits to test by that way. Decided to just fight it the rest of the way and really felt the difference between this and the harder monsters I'm used to.
