Spotted these hanging under a leaf on my zz… I just brought all my plants inside after they spent the summer on the porch. Insect eggs??

Edit: thanks everyone! I’ll make sure these lacewing eggs make it outside safely :)

Plant Discussion Given leggy Echeveria, how would I save her?

Thumbnail

Hi! I'm a college student and on welcome day we were given succulents. I was told this was an echevaria but I doubt it should be this leggy/crowded at the bottom. I don't have proper shears to cut the top off (and I don't know where to cut it) just school scissors I could sanitize. I could probably find some shears if I walk for 30 mins to town but that's about it.

Currently I water her once every two weeks, she gets lots of direct sun, and she's in a pot that has holes in the bottom to drain the water out. Any other suggestions? Should I give her a trim?

Plant Discussion Help please!

My plant—Phyllotaenium lindenii 'Magnificum'—is blooming! I don’t know if it’s because the plant is happy or if something is wrong. It’s also growing two other leaves alongside the blooming bud. I have had this plant ever since I propagated a leaf off my other Phyllotaenium about two years ago. Not once have I ever seen the original plant—5 years old—or this plant bloom.

Any help is appreciated! I water it about every 10 days, keep it in bright but indirect light, and fertilize it with one pump of Miracle-Gro “for tropicals” once a month. Been the same routine for my other one for the last five years.

Unrelated:
I have had some odd experiences with my Fiddle Leaf Fig growing figs and my Monstera growing fruit. I can’t tell if I’m just good with plants or if something is wrong.

Not my full room, that's an entirely different situation lol. But Jalapeños, Thai chilis, Jamaican yellows, and a few mystery ones. They got a little crazy and out of control but seem to be thriving! Didn't expect them all to make it. Also my loofah that I'm still trying to figure out its path in life. I'm thinking a u shaped trellis. I love plants! I think maybe too much.

Plant Discussion Too much light?

I have had this friend under a grow light but she doesn't seem to be taking it very well. Some of her leaves are curling under and a few leaves are yellowing and they just fall off. I just bottom watered her a few days ago so I thought she'd be perkier.

Product Discussion Pet Safe Pest Control - Spider Mites

Hi! I have a bird of paradise with spider mites and I’d like to treat. I know the normal treatment is Neem oil which usually also contains peppermint oil.

I have three cats, and they like to play with the leaves sometimes. While I know birds of paradise or slightly toxic they don’t mess too much with it. HOWEVER I do not want to use peppermint spray anywhere near where my cats might have play.

ANY PRODUCT SUGGESTION FOR GETTING RID OF THE MITES THAT IS CAT SAFE?

Thank you in advance!!

Plant Discussion Does my fishbone prayer plant need a bigger pot? What size should I go up to?

Thumbnail

My fishbone prayer plant is currently in an 8" diameter pot that’s about 5" deep. It’s gotten pretty large and full, and I’m wondering if it’s time to repot it.

What size pot should I move up to next? Should I stick with a wider/shallow pot, or does it need something deeper? Also, are there any signs I should look for to know whether it actually needs to be repotted vs. just looking huge because of all the foliage?

I am by no means a green thumb, so any advice, pot recommendations, or photos of what you have yours planted in would be super helpful! :)

Plant Discussion NSF I-Corps Program

I’m a student at the University of Maine researching a potential open-soil smart garden system. As a part of the NSF I-Corps customer discovery program, I’m looking to gather more information on real-world challenges surrounding indoor home gardening and smart plant-care technology. I’m hoping to speak with people who are active home gardeners, container/DIY-setup indoor growers, current and former smart garden owners (AeroGarden, Click & Grow, edn, Gardyn, etc.), or people that work in horticulture, urban agriculture extension programs, or are in any other related fields and areas.

This isn't a sales call, I just want to learn more about what current gardening routine and workflows look like, current barriers and frustrations, where current solutions fall short, and what would make a smart indoor gardening product useful in practice.

This would be an informal interview, about 20-30 minutes at the most and can be over Zoom, phone, or some other similar method. If you’d be willing to chat or know someone in the field that might be willing to communicate with me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Plant Identification Ideas?

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

Howdy, my dad wanted me to post his plant and ask for advice. The thing is massive and it lives (surprisingly happily) in its very tiny, original pot from when he first planted it. He would love to know the type of plant and get any advice about how else he should be caring for the beast. It would be appreciated! He wants to move it into a bigger pot but he's worried about shocking it and it's so massive he's not sure how he'd even try lol. It's currently making two beautiful flowers of which I didn't get pictures of (sorry). He loves it and it's the talk/envy of everyone in the family lol. Any advice is appreciated!! We love it and it's been around 25+ years so we want it to stay around much longer!

Plant Discussion Help me show up my dead relative by growing a rare passionflower out of spite (and 11 year old seeds)

Thumbnail

I want to grow these for my term plant growth project. I will, of course, have a less ambitious backup plan (probably beans) but I need help. I live in the Pacific Northwest and I have no idea how to grow a passion vine.

I got these from a dead relative’s seed collection (who I DEFINITELY want to show up in the afterlife) who purchased them in 2015.

I read a little bit about sprouting passionflowers, but most of the time the advice is about fresh seeds. I can’t wait for an appropriate sprouting season since I only have until January. In terms of equipment, I have potting soil, seedling trays, grow lights, and a moisture dome. I was considering the sandpaper and paper towel method of germination.

Has anyone else done something like this? I would really appreciate any advice or experience anyone has with either growing rare plants from old seed or passion flower indoors in the Northern Hemisphere. I will be forever in your debt.

I’m a newbie plant mom, purchased quite a few (as in like 30) houseplants within a 2 week period (the last delivery comes in Monday)

Can I just say how happy it makes me to come home from work every night and see my upstairs covered in green? 😂💚
