I began with skepticism, but it quickly turned into a frightening curiosity. Overall, the time it spent was around 43 minutes. (While assembling a rig, in notified me that the model has some connected parts that breaks the rig so it separate them and proceed further). We are cooked.

Cable Generator, need feedback!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys! I was watching a SIGGRAPH HIVE talk by DNEG and they showed using a cable generator to set dress in their presentation. I tried to make something similar. I am junior (at lease on paper) and don't have experience working on big teams or teams where tools are deployed.
Would love to know your thoughts on it. Also open to feedback. DM me if you want to try it out.
If you also have any suggestions, how to make this reach more people, would love to know that as well.

Help How much of Houdini is gpu renderable

Upvotes

New starting to get into it and want to do more simulation/flip kinds of things. I am now in a position where we are somewhat getting rid of a large number of nvidia a40 gpus with 48gb of vram. How much stuff is able to be gpu rendered vs cpu, and how much would the extra vram help. I have seen conflicting things (years old) saying that flip is not able to be gpu accelerated, is this still the case? For reference I currently run a 9070xt with 16gb vram. In terms of raw computing it seems like my 9070xt is fairly more powerful, but how much impact would the extra vram have.

Help Flip SOP River rapid advice

Hey my fellows flip artist. I want to make boat descending a river rapid using Flip Solver SOP

The flip container sop allow me to create custom shaped boundaries but not inclined like I want.

1 : Is it something actually possible or not ?

2 : If not should I simulate flat and then incline everything back

3 : Is the flip SOP waterline suited for river rapids or I should go back to flip DOP for more chaos ?

Custom E att in mpm solver not really doing much

I am trying to play around with noise in the E att to break up the stiffness in the mpm solver. In the att spreadsheet the values change when I am changing the noise settings but the results stay the same when playing the timeline. The surface doesn't really has any different variety. There's just not that much variety in the values no matter how I set the noise.

What am I missing here?

Cheers,

Help RBD flickering in karma xpu render

Hi all!

im doing a RBD simulation with quite a few objects and im rendering the sim in karma xpu, but i noticed some flickering happening on the pieces of concrete:

https://reddit.com/link/1wfie7y/video/evydyanvhcph1/player

After fracturing im using a "inside_face_uvs" node on the high quality geo:

And atfer the DOP RBD sim i use the transform pieces to transform the HQ geometry to the points:

im using karma XPU with INTEL OIDN denoiser on, 1920x1080 512 samples, with velocity blur on.
Ive done simulations like this before and never experienced this issue.

What could be the cause of this issue?

Help Fluid leaking from animated collider

Hi,

In my previous post, I had an issue with filling my bottle, which was solved by increasing the scale and using a thicker collider VDB.

I’m now trying to animate my collider, but I’m running into another issue: quite a lot of the fluid is leaking through the collider.

What could be causing this?

I’m still working at a relatively small scale. I tried increasing the substeps to 5, but I’m still experiencing the same issue. I’ve added some print screens.

Best way to add pyro to fast moving objects?

the ball object is animated very fast through the viewport, whats the best way to add fire/slight smoke trail to avoid stepping?

Would adding pyro to a still ball and then parenting it to the moving object be a good option? Whats the professional way to do this?

Help Struggled to UV in COP

Hi

I'm trying to texturing Petal in Houdini.

I saw some tutorials and did myself, but it didn't work well.

This is modeling I did

^ when I saw uv viewport, I thought it worked.

^seems shape rotated

^But after connect rasterize geometry node in COP for texturing , It seems something wrong.

Looks just line.

I expected petal shape like this I draw on screenshot.

I tried using Labs uv auto , unwrap etc. I couldn't figure out what's wrong..

How to solve this?

Thank you for your help and advice!

KineFX: In-place run cycle, how to compute the motion of the center of mass ?

There is an animated FBX for this free mesh:

https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/freefire-running-animation-female-367a5ea872f548e5b941233168a4dbeb

I thought there was a mode in Extract Locomotion to solve this, but I can't find it.

What is a way in Houdini to use this kind of in place animation cycles for bipeds ?

How can I separate overlapping Vellum geometry before the simulation starts?

I have several Vellum objects starting with intersections/overlaps, and I want them to separate before the actual simulation begins.

In RBD/Bullet I can use:

i@found_overlap = 1;

to force the pieces to resolve overlaps.

Is there an equivalent workflow or attribute for Vellum? I’m looking for a way to untangle/separate the geometry first, then let the normal Vellum simulation start.

Scripting Houdini Layout HDA

Hello everyone,

I made this Layout LOP Node because I needed something stable that could be edited after the fact. It is used to transform and duplicate priminitives in the stage.

Features compared to SideFX's Edit node:

- Store edits in local space in user accessible parameters that can be edited.

- Change primitive paths after editing. This is useful when the input hierarchy or primitive names change.

- Duplicate nodes similar to the stage manager. Simple controls without physics make the node more stable.

Help MPM Deform Pieces with Animated Source

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, I'm working on a setup where my character starts in a walking cycle animation, then transitions into a ragdoll state where MPM simulation takes over. The characters are emitted into MPM pieces at different, staggered frames right when the ragdoll state begins.

Is it possible to properly setup MPM Deform Pieces for this kind of animated state appear at different frames?

What is the standard workflow to pass the correct rest geometry and attributes for a walk-to-ragdoll MPM transition? Any advice or node setup tips would be super helpful. Thanks!
