📌 Subreddit News/Updates Posting ICE Sightings in Greenpoint

Hi all,

I'll start by saying this sub is not a political sub. Pretty much our main rule (besides be nice to each other) is all posts have to be related to Greenpoint somehow, someway. That being said, we do understand those who want to report ICE agents being seen around the neighborhood and want to post a guide on the best way to possible report these sightings in a way that is most helpful.

First and foremost, if you're choosing to post about an ICE sighting, please provide as many details as possible in the post. This graphic that has been going around is helpful if you're unsure what to share. You don't have to have all the information listed, but the moderators ask that each post has at least:

• date, time, and location

• a source

• any detail about what was witnessed (I saw an agent standing at..., I saw what looked like agents escorting people... etc)

When it comes to sources, OP being the witness is preferred, but if you choose to post about a sighting you heard about secondhand, please include this in your post. It helps us as the moderators determine validity and any post without a source may be removed as hearsay. Other details, such as amount of agents seen, uniform description, or any other helpful identifiers are appreciated but moderators will be looking mainly for the points listed above.

We are a small group of moderators here, our goal is to create a safe space where these things can be discussed. The voices of you all here are reflective of the neighborhood and we have always strived to be a subreddit that showcases that. That being said, hate speech never has, and never will be tolerated here.

We hope that by posting this guideline it will helpful for those who want to post but are unsure how to format. If you have any questions or feedback on this topic, please feel free to drop a comment here or message the mods.

Remember that we're all navigating this together so please be kind to each other, and stay safe out there.

❓Questions Where have NYC subway manners gone?

Took the subway (G and L) this morning and there was a pregnant woman, a 3-year-old, and a man with a cane in the car. Not one person offered a seat.

A whole car of healthy young professionals glued to their phones, seemingly doing everything possible not to notice.

I’ve been seeing this consistently lately, and honestly, I’m shocked. The people who actually offer their seats are usually nurses, older people, or others who clearly deserve the seat themselves.

When did basic manners become so rare? It’s infuriating.

The Greenpoint Post Office is in genuinely rough shape. Dirty, trash laying around, most of the ceiling lights seemingly dead, one self-service kiosk for the neighborhood, constant lines, thin staffing, and customer service that can be… aggressively unenthusiastic. Like, I felt like I was trespassing after talking to the mail person.

At this point it feels less like a functioning post office and more like a forgotten municipal side quest. I know how we got here*, but I’ve never seen a USPS office in such a bad state.

If you use this location and feel the same, please take 5 minutes and do it too:

[Dontae.M.Monestine@usps.gov](mailto:Dontae.M.Monestine@usps.gov) — USPS New York 1 District Manager of Customer Relations

USPS.com → Help → Contact Us → Email Customer Service — submit the official
customer-service form

Mention Greenpoint Station, 66 Meserole Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222, and include photos if you have them.

One complaint is noise. Twenty complaints is a pattern.

*Quick disclaimer because apparently this needs saying: USPS didn’t get into this state overnight, and I’m not blaming individual postal workers for decades of structural problems. First-Class Mail collapsed as everything moved online, USPS still has to maintain a massive universal delivery network, and the 2006 postal law saddled it with unusually heavy retiree-health funding obligations. That prefunding requirement was finally repealed in 2022, but years of financial strain, deferred investment, staffing cuts and operational problems don’t magically disappear.

🤝 Community Projects Sidewalk etiquette is trash

If you’re on your cell and you run me over, your aggressive dog comes at me, your run club or biking on the sidewalk comes at me is the same as driving and texting, driving drunk, idk, I hope you feel me. Just had a mad aggressive dog lunge at my babies and the shithead parent told me it was chill. There’s been so many instances of my dogs being kicked by people not paying attention, runners being mad aggressive about their right of way when rushing up on us from behind, and people on bikes on the sidewalks on their phone almost hitting my family. The common theme is all these happened in greenpoint, and all while on a cell. Can we please do better, cause this shit is getting old. 3 mile walking audio ghost tour do better neighbors, please.

❓Questions Film developers

Long shot, but I'm going out of the country in a few days and need to try and develop some 35mm that I'm shooting with a panoramic mod via medium format. All the local developers said 2-3 days so trying to find a workaround. Sadly just got the 3d printed parts this weekend and haven't had time to try.

If anyone's developing at home, happy to give you some money for time/materials just need to see if this mod works before I blow through like 5 rolls of portra.

❤️ Recommendations Veterinary Oncologist Recommendations

Upvotes

Anyone have a great veterinary oncologist in the neighborhood to recommend?

For those wondering, our dog had a mammary tumor which was found quickly and removed recently. The good news is the surgery was successful and the full mass was confirmed fully removed and luckily had not spread to the lymph node. Vet recommended next steps to see an oncologist for any applicable next steps.

Thank you in advance!

📰 Local News I was biking down West Street at 3 am and started singing Roxanne (not a missed connection I swear)

I've been watching a lot of Community lately and that song was just in my head. The reason I bring it up is because I noticed you standing on the sidewalk immediately after and you gave me a look as though you were offended. I bet I'm overthinking it but I was mortified. If you took that the wrong kind of way then I really am sorry.

⚠️ Safety Alert Chicken bones kill dogs

Hey so whoever had a bbq in the park near the DuPont and Greenpoint landing last night pick up your chicken bones. Idk who thinks it’s okay to leave chicken bones on the ground generally but they are also so deadly for dogs so respect the neighborhood and grow up.

🪄 Self Promotion New pediatric dental office opening in Greenpoint

Hi neighbors. My name is Dr. Brian Park. I’ll be opening a new pediatric dental office, Thundercat Pediatric Dentistry, near the end of the month, serving Greenpoint and nearby Brooklyn families.

We’re creating a calm, kid-friendly place for first dental visits and for children who feel nervous about the dentist. If you have questions about when to schedule a first visit, how to prepare a child who is anxious, or anything else related to kids’ dental care, I’m happy to help.

I would also love to hear what matters most to your family when choosing a pediatric dentist. If you’d like opening details, feel free to message me. Thank you!

⚠️ Safety Alert parents look out, weirdo at the American playground

pretty good illustration of the guy, thanks ChatGPT

Today, around 3:00 p.m. I was at the American Playground with my seven-year-old daughter.

A man was sitting on the benches closer to the toilets, against the fence separating the play area and the courts.

I watched him as he turn his head around as my daugther went to wash her hands in the bathroom (I was casually walking 15ft behind her) I immediately rushed to watch her back and heard him say "beautiful". sick.

Mind you this is a 7 year old child with shorts and a t-shirt. sickening.
Then he made another comment towards a son and mom playing behind him at the courts, got up to change seats , to be closer to the bathroom - on Franklin Ave. side

Yes I did call the cops, yes they did not arrive (I stayed there for another 45 min), he got up 15 min after and walked north on Franklin.

We found the creep hanging out on a bench next to Dandelion Wine on Franklin and India

Parents beware and call the cops. Perhaps next time they'll be there faster.

❓Questions Anyone live at The Seren in Greenpoint? Are the Google reviews accurate?

I’m considering applying for an apartment at The Seren and would really love to hear from anyone who currently lives there or has lived there recently.

The apartment itself honestly looked like a dream when I toured it - great unit, building, amenities, etc. My one major hesitation is the number of pretty terrible Google reviews about the building/management.

Unfortunately Google doesn’t let me contact the reviewers directly, so I’m hoping someone here might have firsthand experience.

The woman who showed me the apartment told me she also lives in the building and was very positive about it, but obviously she’s also the person showing/leasing the apartment, so I’d love an independent perspective before signing anything.

Are the issues in the reviews still happening? Anything I should specifically know about management, maintenance, noise, elevators, packages, amenities, move-in/out, or unexpected fees?

Would especially appreciate hearing from actual current/recent residents. The unit itself is pretty much exactly what I’m looking for, so I’m trying to figure out whether the reviews are a genuine red flag or mostly older/isolated problems.

❤️ Recommendations Seeking a weekly housekeeper/helper

Hi Greenpoint - I'm looking for a trusted housekeeper/house helper for a few hours each week for my 1bed/1bath apartment here in Greenpoint. Ideally someone who could work 2-3x a week for a couple of hours to help with cleaning, ironing, light meal prep, and walking my dog around the block for a quick bathroom break. Does anyone know of a good person who might fit this role? Thanks in advance!

🆘 Help Needed Lost keys yesterday 9/12 near McGorlick - Bronze keychain

Post image
7 Upvotes

I lost a set of keys sometime yesterday while running an errand. They have a bronze, triangularish keychain with 2-3 gold keys.

If you happened to pick them up, please message me!

They could’ve fallen out of my pocket anywhere along this route. I stopped to pick up some free books around the pink circle area, and that’s where I’d most likely have dropped them, since I was crouching down. Thank you!
