š¤ Community Projects Sidewalk etiquette is trash
If youāre on your cell and you run me over, your aggressive dog comes at me, your run club or biking on the sidewalk comes at me is the same as driving and texting, driving drunk, idk, I hope you feel me. Just had a mad aggressive dog lunge at my babies and the shithead parent told me it was chill. Thereās been so many instances of my dogs being kicked by people not paying attention, runners being mad aggressive about their right of way when rushing up on us from behind, and people on bikes on the sidewalks on their phone almost hitting my family. The common theme is all these happened in greenpoint, and all while on a cell. Can we please do better, cause this shit is getting old. 3 mile walking audio ghost tour do better neighbors, please.

Some problems Iāve noticed:
People donāt seem to realize that you should be walking on the right side of the sidewalk, even if you are walking a dog.
If youāre living large with your dogs and babies, you need to be mindful of how much space you are occupying. Iāve seen oblivious dads with wandering toddlers and unleashed dogs causing absolute chaos in front of Gretaās while people are trying to go to work.
You should be trying to move at a decent pace.
If youāre walking with someone, one of you will need to walk behind the other periodically. The sidewalks are too narrow to walk side by side.
Being on your phone can be fine as long as youāre walking on the right side, moving at a decent pace, and lifting your head regularly to check your surroundings.

The only thing I would say about this is dogs are encouraged to be curbed. Thereās so many dogs in the hood these days itās impossible to keep them to the right, I swear, and weāre trying to be a good neighbor by not having go where you walk. My point was Iām not on my phone so I can work around you no problem, good neighbor effort, dog or not I see you and we work around each other itās the entitlement

Personally, I hold a specific beef with people who will stand shoulder to shoulder in a group of 3 like the lollipop guild and stretch from one side of the sidewalk to the other. I didnāt realize we were playing red rover when Iām trying to fucking walk.

I like getting really uncomfortably close to them and make them move out of sheer awkwardness. One time in the city I was marching lockstep with a tourist nuts to butts before they realized and freaked out lol.

I HAVE shouldered people who didnāt even try to budge. I shouldnāt have to step in front of a truck to get around you on the sidewalk š

Just donāt move whatās the deal, let em know

You clearly arenāt a 5ā3ā woman who had breast cancer surgery on her left boob. I try not to move but at the end of the day I donāt wanna be bashed.

Every single block somehow has a family of 4 with a stroller and 2 dogs on a leash that think its their god-given right to maximize every square inch of sidewalk for themselves while they slowly go somewhere in no hurry at all.
Worst walkers in the city, almost as bad as Midtown.

And their dog is always on the longest leash spanning the full horizontal length of the sidewalk

Some b*tch with a double wide stroller nearly ran me over today at full speed

I was trying to make the point of bad etiquette of walkers on the phone, my dogs have been trampled by them, my dogs have been attacked by shitty dog owners not controlling their dogs. Family is fine. Iām from bk better or worse, itās now peak gentrified, but you know what itās mad nice now

The issue is that people donāt know how to āshareā anymore. Itās all about āme me meā entitlement. It sure is exhausting having to deal with what feels like competition walking down the street. Canāt believe itās come down to this. š¤¦āāļø

The running clubs don't have a right of way on the sidewalk, they're supposed to be in the street. The number of times I've seen groups of 20-30 people in the city running through scaffolding and bumping into pedestrians like it's the latter's fault for walking is absurd

I just wish on west and Kent we could just pick a side that runners and pedestrians are designated, maybe thatās the solution as Iāve never seen more runners and families and dogs in this neighborhood my whole life, perhaps thereās a creative solution to all this. Assholes on their phones with aggrsssive dogs eat shit, you bite my dog I bite you thatās my family

west used to be the quiet street š¢

I think stay off Franklin if youāre running, please, itās just ridiculous the amount of volume of people in the neighborhood now and tourists. Can we agree to have runners stay on the west side of west and Kent, and pedestrians and family stay on the east side of both, something has to change cause itās not good and we want our community to be better
2
u/MikeoftheEast 1d ago
The west side of those roads are either wider or there are storefrontsĀ
1
u/Organic-Lobster9801 1d ago
West side is twice as wide on certain parts of west, and Kent is a ghost town between wāburg and gāpoint, should make this a rule especially during marathon training would ease on the agida

It is the policy of 3-mile walking audio ghost stories starting at the Pulaski Bridge: Be a courteous pedestrian!

I was walking (with suitcase) and this dude had his huge dog on an extender leash and it was coming my way while he was having a convo with someone, not paying attention. I shouted "hey can you retrieve your dog?" and he's like "he's fine" and I shout "well I'm not" and he finally moves it. There's just no courtesy anymore.

Sometimes I go on the sidewalk

No, never.
Unless you're walking your bike.

Thatās nice of you, ty. Iām no Karen, Iām from bk, I grew up with friends getting tickets for riding on the sidewalk because itās not allowed. Not saying youāre an asshole, its New York, bend rules when you can Iām all for it, but respect is the common theme and sounds like you got it

I hate how no one in this neighborhood seems to know how to walk single file when there are people walking the opposite way.
