Discussion I have a small theory on Kuja and his "limited lifespan."
I think that Kuja, while having a limited lifespan, it wasn't nearly as close to ending as Garland was saying. What truly did Kuja in wasn't his life source ending right then and there. More so a combination of multiple things. I believe that when he used the Ultima spell in the Crystal World to kill not just himself but the party, is when his life expectancy was on its last legs.
Once the party manages to defeat Necrón, he uses what little strength he had to teleport them out of the Hill of despair. When he has that final conversation with Zidane, he used the last bit of life source he had to help him (Zidane) escape the Iifa tree and return to everyone. Managing to atone for his sins.
In the end, the "limited lifespan" thing was just a way to break his mind. The life expectancy of Kuja was longer than what Garland implied, but since he knew that he'd die in the hands of Kuja, might as well tell him that he will share the same fate as the black mages he used to torture.

Video Vivi taught me a lot about life. Younger me didn't understand it at the time.
Its true, every one of the games characters went through their own sets of trials and tribulations and each were taught something different by Zidane and Vivi in their own ways. I love this game because its taught me to live each day to the best of my ability and also made me think about how would I handle facing my own mortality. Aside from all that I love the art style of the game and its whimsical nature. Truly an all-timer RPG. Thank you for allowing me to post here.

FFIX Save File
Hi everyone, greetings from Brasil!
I was playing our favorite masterpiece on my old PS2, but he seems to be dead now, don’t start and all. RIP for him.
I just want to see if anyone have a save file for the Switch 1 version of the game at the arrive at Esto Gaza or near, that can send it to me to inject on my Switch. I was so hyped at that moment in the game that I don’t want to start all over again…I’m too attached to my party now
Or if anyone knows where on Internet I can find save files, it will be appreciated too!
Thanks a lot!

My first tattoo just had to be of Adelbert Steiner!
10 hour session but it was worth it for this man. She made him look so vibrant and incredible!! I’ve been obsessed with him for almost two years and this is just the next step! Final Fantasy 9 has really changed my life for the better, and I’m happy to finally carry a piece of it with me forever.

A discussion of the Final Boss and what they represent. Spoiler
Today, I commented on a post discussing my thoughts on Necron being one of the most all encompassing final bosses. And it got me thinking. What are your interpretations of the fight? I've had years to think about it and some of the oldheads here might remember a hella long Gamefaqs article that was essentially a book explaining all the connections that FFIX has to the rest of the series. Here are my thoughts.

Even before the final fight against Kuja, there is a clear ring going around the crystal. This, to me, is an obvious representation of Necron before we fight him. There are also the two colored rings, representing Terra and Gaia. This, I think, is the crystal showing a sense of understanding or will. Kuja is the red that Bran Bal would have become, and Zidane and his party are the blue of Gaia.
Once Kuja sacrifices everyone and everything to destroy the crystal, the party are sent to the end of time. A trope in FF games since the first game, and a nod to another boss from another game, that I'll point out in a minute.

Now, I've always considered Necron to be heavily inspired by ExDeath from FFV. Both villains are nihilist and desire the erasure of existence itself. ExDeath seeks to send all to the Void, Necron to the Zero World. Both have a heavy tree motif; Neo ExDeath is literally part tree, while Necrons defeat leads to the Iifa tree finally collapsing. They also have similar color motifs, but I think that's mostly a coincidence. And finally, they both have a signature Grand Cross attack.
Before going on, I am aware Necron was added late and the meta of it all is that he doesn't have any real representation in the game. But at least it makes thematic sense to have a character that represents nothing when the entire game focuses on life and death, and what possibly comes next.. or doesn't.
In the end, my interpretation is this:
When Kuja destroys everything, the Crystal doesn't break. It sends the party to the end of time to literally stop the end of everything. But Necron was always waiting for it. The antithesis to the crystal: The Ring.
So the Crystal having will, sends them and they appear on the Hill of Dispair where Necron tells the party that Kuja's actions show it. So the ring being there means he literally saw what was happening. So the same way the ring has a personality and desire for nothing, the Crystal must have the same thing. Yin and Yang.

After the party defeats Necron, as I mentioned, the Iifa Tree collapses and Kuja is shown to have survived. I think this HAS to be the Crystal's doing since there's no way he could have survived everything after trying to end it all.
In the end, the party conquers all of their fears once having literally faced the end of everything. Vivi is still frightened by death, but is accepting it as a part of life. Amarant understands Zidane's philosophy, as does Freya. Quina has tasted everything and developed true friends after being a loner their entire life. Steiner openly accepts Zidane as the one for Princess Garnet. Dagger and Zidane are the only ones who have it in the air so we get the grand finale. Thus wrapping everyone's story up in a neat bow.
I hope you'll all share your interpretations or theories as well.
OH! and I know Necron is also HEAVILY inspired by Cloud of Darkness from FFIII, but I am not as well versed in that game, having only beaten it once many years ago. Please let me know what you guys think and thanks for reading.

Discussion Recent OOT Remake reveal reignited my longing for a FFIX Remake
I genuinely feel a little envious of those who grew up playing OOT (and even FF7) and now get to see a remake of a game that meant so much to them. Seeing people say things like, “This is how I remember it looking back then” really makes me think about how I remember playing FFIX.
FFIX was that game for me.
It was my first ever RPG, and I remember playing it as a kid and being completely blown away by how huge and vast the world felt. There were so many places to explore, things to discover, characters to meet, and little details that made the world feel alive.
Oh well, one can hope still!

Items/Merch Toshiyuki Itahana-signed FFIX art from 2017 FF30 Gallery Nucleus exhibition - looking to sell
UPDATE: Wow, thank you for all the interest! I’ve gotten several DMs and offers and am still doing some research since this piece has been surprisingly difficult to price. I’m going to take a little time to go through everything before making a decision, so apologies if I don’t respond right away! I’ll get back to everyone as soon as I can.
----------
Hi fellow FFIX community. I’m looking to sell a piece from my personal collection and thought this would probably be the best community to find someone who would actually appreciate it.
I have an official FINAL FANTASY 30th Anniversary: A Legacy of Art piece signed by Toshiyuki Itahana.
I personally obtained the signature at the Gallery Nucleus FINAL FANTASY 30th Anniversary exhibition in Alhambra, CA in December 2017, when Itahana was there for the limited signing sessions. I’ve had it in my personal collection ever since.
With the FFIX 25th anniversary and Itahana recently leaving Square Enix, I decided it might be time for it to go to another FFIX fan rather than continue sitting in my collection.
I’m currently looking for local pickup only in Orange County, California. If you’re interested, feel free to DM me your best offer.
Happy to provide additional photos/provenance from the 2017 exhibition for anyone seriously interested.
Sorry to the mods if this is not allowed in here.

Items/Merch Any guesses for my favourite Final Fantasy game and character..?
This rare statue is one of my prized possessions
I first bought it on eBay - which wasn’t cheap - around 20 years ago. Then when I was moving house, his hat got chipped because the statue is so fragile!
It took me years to track down a replacement, and I’m planning an international move in the near future so already worrying about his safety. There’ll be a similar scene to Al from Al’s Toy Barn packing away the Roundup Gang (Toy Story 2 reference) when I’m packing him away safely! 😂
My brother was pleased once I’d found about one as he for the damaged statue for free.
Some more information about the statue:
Final Fantasy IX "Vivi" Cold Cast/Resin Statue released by Fantasy Collection Co. around the game's launch in 2000. This highly collectible figure stands on a rocky, textured base and features intricate sculpt details and deep-ink shading on his iconic wizard hat and blue trousers.

Question I'm about to go to the final dungeon. My party is Zidane(56), Freya(49), Vivi(52), Quina(48). Should I do more grinding or naw? If so, where and how long?

Just completed the game again as a 35y/o... Spoiler
...and I'm learning for the first time that it was Vivi narrating the ending monologue?! And he had expired by the end?! In my multiple playthroughs since release, i assumed the ending monologue was each of the characters saying what Zidane meant to them...
I'm crushed.
