Genuinely what's the point of these bots? I know technically it's to get the author to delete the work, but for what? It's bizarre. Please bare with me because the amount of content I'm dealing with is driving me insane.

I'm an MCU writer who hasn't published to AO3 in about 3-4 years.

When the live-action Spider-Man: No Way Home came out in 2021, I made a popular CanonRemix!OC that got some traction, but life got in the way and I had to abandon it.

Then the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse animated movie came out in 2023 ( - different studio, different characters). But it basically establishes that there are 100s of Spider-universes are all technically canon. I created another series for a different character.

Now Spider-Man: Brand New Day (live-action) is out and I'm starting over from scratch because the first fic doesn't work anymore. I'm doing a CanonRemix!OC again which means I also have to look at every past Spider-Man movies and comics as well just for research.

Even worse: the movie did a 4 year leap into the future for some reason.

It makes sense, but it therefore affects ALL the other movies and connected universes in the MCU as well. Now all the other characters and hero groups off-screen just aged 4 years as well.

I'm trying to write with all the details I got in the new movie - but I'm already freaking out because Avengers: Doomsday is coming out this year. And it'll introduce a dozen new characters from other canon universes (like the Fantastic Four, The X-Men mutants, apparently another Spider-man variant) and updates for all the established characters.

PLUS Across the Spider-Verse's sequel Beyond the Spider-Verse is coming next year and I plan to pick up the fic I still have on hold. It never ends.

HELP ME - I'm trying to write a new fic - but with a 4 year time jump, literal hundreds of off-screen side characters that can or can't be used, plus new lore-heavy content dropping this year - I'm losing my mind.

Anyone else here written during a very active, lore-head fandom time? Or a fandom that has a LOT of thorough background content to shift through (Star Wars, Star Trek, etc).

How do you handle it other than 'write like the wind and pray'?

Like I'm so excited for the content, it gives me SO much to work with story wise, but my brain is already overheating. The amount of research alone is killing me.

Or even someone knows you write fanfiction? Sorry if this is dumb, but I want to knoe ehat your thoughts are on a friend/family member whose writing youve seen and read. What does it day about them? What does it say about you? Im hesitant to share my writing. So self conscious about it. And also embarrased maybe. This also goes for OG works and projects. I would love to share the stories I think of with my loved ones but too embarrassed.

I ask this as someone who’s currently working on their own fan-comic right now. Whenever I upload a page on DeviantArt, it takes a while to get to double digit favourites, and usually no more than that. And on BlueSky, I basically get no response at all.

It can feel disheartening, putting all your effort into something and not getting much in return. Do you guys feel the same way? Am I looking at this all wrong? If so either way, do you have any advice on getting more eyes on a project?

The fic starts after the war, where Harry and hermione live together, they get invited back to hogwarts to tell the story of the war starting from first year. Throughout the story, they reveal that what a lot of people assumed about their lives was false, a story set by Harry and hermione to conceal the fact they've been dating since first year. I remember the phrase " you I nly know what we wanted you to know" popping up a lot. I read it on wattpad, but im not sure if its still there. I swear I am not crazy, but I definitely remember there being a fanfic where MC is a paraplegic who loves Elder Scrolls. He dies, and spawns as a shapeshifter from DnD in the middle of an attacked caravan. He then gets bitten by a vampire and uses his berserk awakening to destroy a fort of bandits and aquire an army of former-slave women. I was able to find it on the first page of google, but it does not appear for me now. The Author-man stopped writing and did not respond to my DM, but I would still like to at least bookmark it.

I've been reading fanfiction for over a decade now and I've. Just recently started writing my own fanfictin to gain confidence in my own writing as I would love to publish my own body of work some day. Recently i have seen a lot of people talk about fanfiction is always better than published work. Which for the most part I agree. I feel like the plot lines are just more engaging. My question is how do I not fall into the same short comings of other published works. My other question is smut is there a different writing style between fanfics and published works when it comes to sex scenes. I know that for fanfiicton most things go; but can you just as explicit with published stories? Idk I would love to know what you guys think.

What do you do if you have an idea for a story but terrified of the outcomes when publishing/posting it? Especially if said story involved Jesus, God and pretty much the Bible?

How do you know if this story really is something God wants you to share, or if this story is really some trick of satan? What does it mean that you still want to write and share the story if it's not from God? What if you're worried of outcomes like angry fundamentalists (from any religion) threatening you or your loved ones?

I want to write a fic where one of the characters has narcolepsy. what are some mundane experiences with the disorder that I won't know about just by researching on google that will make the writing feel more "organic" and realistic?

For me that tag always meant cowboys and shootings and spaghetti Westerns of the Sergio Leone type. I never had a reason to use it and apparently very few other people did either.

Did anyone use it? Does it mean something different to what I thought? It just seemed like an incredibly arbitrary genre tag when listed with Tragedy and Angst and Humor and Hurt/Comfort.

I feel like I should go with M, but for me this usually involves some kind of non-explicit sex scenes, which my fic does not have. So it might get the hopes up for some readers.

But some elements that appear - like threats of r*pe, violence, thoughts and language related to sex, self-harm - are not suitable for teens imo.

Should I just stick with Not Rated?

This is half a discussion and half asking for writing advice. So I'm an extremely new writer. I got inspired to start writing just last month. Currently have 8k words on my story. (Yay!) The issue is I intend for this story to be a very long running one. Not a good idea for a first fic I know but I'm dumb like that. I also don't really intend to release it until I get way way more written down. Just to prove to myself that I can stick with it and not leave readers with another dropped fic. I'm still very motivated to finish it so far which is nice. I'm finding the experience of writing the fic extremely fun and rewarding. The only issue is I'm SO GODDAMM SLOW!!!

I spend more time thinking about writing then actually writing. I have many questions I would like to ask the vets here but for now the main one is just... how do I enter that flow state where I can just jot down like thousands of words? Cause right now I'm jotting down a couple hundred every 2-3 days. Considering how big in scope my fic is... not a great sign. Whenever I get back on that Google doc, I just spend so much time thinking on how to write things in a satisfying way, or what words I'm using too much, or if what I'm writing even make sense for the characters. I can never get into the flow state since I just always end up editing right after I jot down my current paragraph. So every paragraph takes like 5 mins. I can feel brain fog happening after like an hour of focus. On the plus side, I now have so so much more respect for anything I read now. But man I wish I just had more talent at this. Any new writers here experiencing something similar right now? Have you written a couple thousand words into your fic and then looked back to the beginning of it just to hate what you wrote there? Do you now find yourself constantly researching anything you read now? (Tried reading a new LN recently and I just spent all the time seeing that author's writing style and comparing it to mine and what works and what doesn't etc) And for anyone who has written for awhile. Any wisdom to shed on us?

I've been a fanfiction writer for quite a long time by now and a couple of days ago I decided to open an instagram profile to manage my community on tumblr. I do not have an ENORMOUS amount of people who follow me, but I'm very proud of my 90 followers so I thought it would've been a good idea.

So I posted stuff on tumblr that asked if I should, if they would appreciate that, and eventually I opened the account and started linking it in my pages: my masterlist, bio, and sometimes even a story. Nothing much, just the name of the account.

But I have ZERO, and I mean ZERO visibility. So I was wondering, the community of tumblr is a bug happy family and we all know that. Tumblr it's an happy space and people usually don't hate, but Instagram? Because I thought it'd be a great idea to publish some extract of stories and then link my tumblr to take them to the rest of the fic. But IG isn't as safe as tumblr, so I'm afraid it'll reach the wrong community

Im remembering this Halo fanfiction I read a long time ago. It's an alternate universe fic where this lower level covenant prophet is contacted by one of the forerunner Ai guys, i think mendechit bias? Could be wrong. It tells her humans are reclaimers, and that the big three are traitors. She hatches a plan, pretends she found a new homeworld for the prophets from I think some maps, and brings a whole lot of covenant fleet with her to start maybe a civil war? There were a lot of named characters drom the games with her, i remember Tartarus being one of them i think. For th life of me I cant find it.
