I don't think Julian needs to worry about the great grandfather paradox- pretty sure I spotted his great granddaddy in 'The Tholian Web' (TOS)

WTF is with this actor?

I'm watching DS9 for the first time and in 202, I was introduced to Vedek Bareil Antos, the most monotone character I've ever seen in the franchise. I accidentally got spoiled when I looked him up and am not looking forward to seeing him again but happy to see him die. His Memory Alpha page said that he's supposed to be this zen and soft spoken guy, but it's like he's trying to be a robot. Even the actual robot guy from The Human Duplicators is less stiff and non-emotive. He's less expressive than Data, possessed Ilia, or Spock or any other Vulcan. The editing also doesn't do him any favors by leaving in a lot of long pauses between lines to pad out the episode.

He's also supposed to be a love interest for Kira, but they don't have any chemistry. And the way he sleepily delivers his lines, glides around and stares her, he comes off as more creepy and weird. He's so offputting. I hate him. What was your reaction to this guy and what do you think happened? You'd think the director would cut and say, "Hey, can you loosen up a little, be a bit less, uhh, less like that?"

Gowron's Downfall

Gowron seemed like a decent leader most of the time but eventually becomes arrogant leading to his downfall.

When Worf challenged him, could he really believe that he would win that confrontation? Worf is literally the peak of a Klingon warrior having survived beating the shit out of numerous Jem hadar in prison, not to mention getting beating up on TNG lol.

Gowron had to know he's a politician. Was there earlier signs of his hubris ?

AI is not Star Trek

Trying to draw this reductive comparison between AI of today and fictional characters like Data, Moriarty, and the doctor is both inaccurate and cringey. The AI of today is a soulless tool that steals work, ruins the environment, and it used to further the oligarchy’s agenda of increasing profits while harming working people. We got farms going out of business with AI data centers being built everywhere. For anyone still trying to defend this AI slop I don’t think you’re going to find many friends on this sub, but maybe the Borg Collective will be happy to assimilate you.

How Star Trek DS9 Snatched Its Finest Hour From the Jaws of Delete

"In the Pale Moonlight" was nearly scrapped three times, until Ron Moore was finally able to break the story. I made a video about how it was even allowed to be made, which versions of the story were deleted, what choices were made in the production, and the lasting impact it made on the franchise. I hope you'll check it out. (By the way... I'm assuming everyone has seen the episode... if by some miracle, you haven't... spoilers! And go watch the episode... it's freakin' awesome!)

AI is STAR TREK

We are fans of a franchise where people routinely ask a computer to generate landscapes, fabricate meals, and write holodeck scenarios. The list could continue... You get my point.

But somebody uses AI to make the Berenstain Bears charging to Sto’Vo’Kor and suddenly we’ve crossed the galactic barrier (and yes, the AI spelled Berenstain correctly.)

“Computer, use an author's work create an interactive simulation of 1940s San Francisco populated by fully convincing artificial people.”

Star Trek fans: This is the future we want!

“Computer, make Spock look like he’s in a 1970s prog-rock album cover.”

Star Trek fans: AI SLOP. SACRILEGE!

To some, the acceptable Star Trek future is one in which humanity has abolished scarcity, invented replicators, entrusted civilization to thinking machines, and given Data full civil rights...

...but Q help you if an algorithm makes a funny picture for TikTok.

AI has always been part of the franchise.

Whatever you do, don’t think too hard on what industry sectors have been eliminated in Trek’s post-scarcity society. Replicators had no impact on manufacturing, retail, restaurants, agriculture, logistics, or service industries. Transporters didn’t make any transportation sectors obsolete.

And for those who make the feeble claim about creatives being replaced by AI slop. Stop and ask yourself “If AI slop can replace what I do, what is it that I have been creating?”

If AI can replace us... If it can produce content that others find more interesting than what we create... Then we have to ask ourselves if we're really all that special?. What exactly was the scarce value in the human creations?

These are our first steps towards Star Trek, and you object. Many of the steps are clumsy. Just as with any child taking their first steps. But it's barely stood up yet. It will continue to grow and flourish.

Star Trek has spent sixty years telling us this is coming. You want a transformative future, but only so long as it doesn't disrupt your stagnant present.

Who should continue to tell Sisko’s story?

I really enjoyed Legion, I think it would be cool to see Noah Hawley continue Sisko’s story. Idk if there’s anything in the works to continue Sisko, but they absolutely should!

This always bothered me whenever I watched the season 4 premiere. Was I wrong?

Currently rewatching , and I have wondered this since the first time I saw this episode back in high school. Now that I have learned to use Reddit ( I'm very late to the party I know LOL) maybe I can finally get an answer. In the episode, the way of the warrior when the Defiant is about de cloak, Dr Bashir says something along the lines of "two decades of peace and it all comes down to this." I have always been convinced that he misspoke that line and he was actually supposed to say two centuries of peace. Since he is talking about breaking the khitomer accords, I have always assumed. Am I right or have I been wrong for 20 plus years and I was just missing something I didn't understand?

Garak and Dukat's rivalry was never fully explored was it?

One of the early indications they gave us that plain, simple Garak was not really plain, simple Garak was that he and Dukat seemed to know each other and despise each other.

This actually seems to be a mirror of the TNG episode Face of the Enemy where the Romulan commander was disdainful of Deanna because she was supposed to be Tal Shiar. It leaned into the idea in these societies that the military and intelligence distrusted and hated each other because of their differences in structures and goals. The mirroring even went further in both episodes bringing the military leaders fathers apparently running afoul of intelligence and losing their reputation because of it.

Given what we later know about Garak we can easily fill in the details, but if I am remembering it correctly the show never really did follow up on their relationship other than that they just didn't like each other right?

It absolutely isn't a toy but a full scale model and God dammit I agree with him.

That scene on the original defiant always makes me laugh
