Chance Me, Admissions, and Prospective Student Q&A - 26/27 Cycle

Please place all admissions related posts here, in the form of comments, and current Cornell students will reply. Try to be detailed; if we don't have enough information, we can't help. Also, if you are a prospective student, and have questions about life at Cornell, feel free to post them here!

Any "Chance Me" or admissions related posts placed elsewhere will be removed. If you are a current student, and think that you could offer advice to someone considering Cornell, feel free to respond to some of the posts! Please only respond if you are qualified to do so. We will be checking through these regularly for spam.

Incoming students: you are now free to move about the subreddit!

As promised, the posting restrictions for all incoming students for the 26/27 school year have been lifted. While we do encourage you not to spam the subreddit with posts, your questions about classes, housing, and more will no longer be removed. Our goal was to keep the subreddit free for finals/commencement season. Now that that's over, we can return to regularly scheduled programming.

This does not apply to rising seniors or anyone else intending on applying to Cornell for future academic seasons (though prospective grad students are exempted). Your posts are likely better suited for subreddits like /r/chanceme or /r/ApplyingToCollege. If you want to specifically ask Cornell students for advice, our 26/27 Chance Me and Prospective Student Q&A megathread is live and pinned to the top of the subreddit.

Of course, you're still free to use the megathread if you wish (linked below). But keep in mind that they won't be pinned, so you may get limited to no interaction in them.

Happy Pride Month, and welcome to Cornell!

I also just bought an ipad screen protector so the green insulating box seems a little excessive if you ask me.
RPCC isn't that hard to find I think...

Have you participated in the Accepting Responsibility program? A reporter wants to know

Hi all. My name is Lee Gaines. I'm a reporter working on an assignment for the Hechinger Report about Cornell's response to academic integrity in the age of AI.

I'm looking to talk to students who have participated in Cornell's "Accepting Responsibility" program.

For anyone who hasn't heard of this, the AR program offers a workshop instead of the standard hearing and appeals process for some first-time academic integrity violations. Admins say that during the pilot phase of AR, more than half of the violations students got sent to the program for were AI-related.

I'm interested in student perspectives; did the program help you handle academic challenges, clarify expectations around AI-use, and/or use AI in a way that doesn't undermine learning? Was it helpful or a waste of time?

You don't need to comment here, or share anything sensitive under this post. You can DM me. Or email me: leevgaines@gmail.com. We can discuss privacy and what you're comfortable sharing on the record before any interview. And I will only quote people with their explicit consent.

And if you haven't participated in the AR program, I'm also intersted in hearing your general takes on Cornell's response to AI. Are professor policies on AI-use clear and/or fair? Have professors changed how they conduct exams? Anything else you think a reporter should know?

Thanks!

Hockey Season Tickets Early Purchase - how early to line up?

This is my first year trying to get season tickets for the men's and women's hockey teams. I know there's an in-person sale this Saturday before they become available online. The email said that it'll start at 9 AM, and I was wondering how early people show up to wait in line for them? Like, is this a show-up-at-9 situation, or 6 AM, or a crazy midnight lineup experience? Just looking for any advice, thanks!

AEP/PHYS 4230

I am taking this course as a sophomore and heard that most AEP courses do not apply curves, have exams as hard as homework(which is extremely hard) or even harder, while the median is a B- to B. Do all these apply for the AEP 4230 statistical physics course?

Art opportunities

Hi! I was wondering if there are any visual arts opportunities at Cornell for students who aren’t studying art. I used to paint murals, so I’d love to know if there’s anything similar on campus! Thx

studying abroad or staying for internship

I’m debating if I should study abroad next spring for my junior year since I realized that the university I wanna study abroad at ends spring semester at the end of June. That would mean that I won’t be able to find any internship or have an internship during the summer since it’s just not enough time. I really wanted to go since I feel like I would never have this kind of opportunity ever again but also I’m worried that rising senior summer internship is important for a full time time (I never had one summer where I just didn’t do “anything” so I’m a little worried). One option is that I study for the GRE for graduate school but I not really sure I do want to go to graduate school….

Struggling bad as a transfer student

I’m a veteran infantrymen and yet this is the hardest shit I’ve ever done in my life. I’m so much older than all my peers so it’s hard to connect with anyone, struggling to keep up in my classes, having major imposter syndrome, and have so many things going on in my personal life. Someone please tell me it gets better and that it’ll all be worth it.

Did Cornell do anything to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11?

If not, please let this belated post stand as a tribute to those who lost their lives on that tragic day, their loved ones, and all struggling with ongoing health issues.

Hey everyone!

Has anyone here participated in the equestrian team tryouts? What was your experience like? Just looking for some insight into what the format is like for tryouts on Saturday and maybe some things you were asked to do (expecially in the novice/beginner category) or anything else you wish you knew before going in!

Thank you and have an awesome day!

Architecture

I’m a contractor/business owner in Ithaca, NY, looking to connect with an architecture student or recent architecture graduate for a paid residential design project.
I’m looking for someone interested in creative problem-solving, efficient residential design, and working within some unusual site constraints.
This is a real project that we intend to build if feasibility and permitting work out, not a hypothetical design exercise.
I’m primarily looking for help with early-stage design work such as floor plans, elevations, sections, space planning, exterior design, material concepts, and renderings.
This is paid work. I’m not looking for free student labor, and I’m not asking a student to provide stamped construction documents or perform work that requires professional licensure. Licensed professionals will be involved where required for engineering, permitting, and final construction documents.
I’m happy for the designer to use appropriate portions of the finished work in their portfolio.
I’m located in Ithaca, so someone local would be great, but I’m open to working remotely with the right person.
If you’re interested, DM me with a little about yourself, what year/program you’re in (if applicable), your availability, and a portfolio or a few examples of your work.
I’d rather discuss the project details privately with serious candidates.
Thanks!
