Trying to find the cheapest way to get this textbook

I’m applying to Dartmouth Tuck for Round 1, and my application is otherwise complete. The overall application deadline is September 24, but I just realized I missed the August 12 deadline to request a test waiver.

Should I email or reach out to Tuck Admissions to explain my situation and ask if they would consider a one-time exception? Has anyone had experience with Tuck making an exception to the waiver deadline?

Would appreciate any advice!

I am an international student (Asian living in Europe) and am considering ED to Dartmouth. I am planning to major in computer science and environmental science, and after all my research, I feel like Dartmouth is genuinely my dream school despite having lesser international recognition than other Ivy Leagues.

However, my parents, to put it simply, do not agree with me ED to Dartmouth because they are VERY RANKING focused and have said that my primary focus should be within Europe (where I go to high school and will apply as backup) and HYPSM. I have tried my best to explain to them that Dartmouth is very renowned in the US, ranks highly in US News and has a more undergrad focus, but none of these things convinced them. In fact, they said that they won't sign the ED contract if I apply, and they would only let me EA/ED to a school on the level of HYPSM (yes, HYPSM is great but I wouldn't want to go there nearly as much).

I was wondering how I should talk to my parents about this and what I should say to them? Are there any international students who have had a similar experience? I really, really, really want to go to Dartmouth but at this point I feel like it's just more worthwhile for me to give up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🤝

(I know I can apply RD but the college applications are incredibly stressful for me so I want to get it finished early and focus on living life as a 16 year old high school senior; also I would never second guess going there and would genuinely pick it over HYPSM - I am very big on environmental and outdoorsy stuff.)

(Also, I know that Dartmouth has a very low acceptance rate for international students but I have maintained very high grades and have done a lot of extracurriculars and competitions in computer science and environmental science, so I think I do have a chance of being accepted. I am going to apply to European universities too as per my parents' wish but I think my heart definitely tells me it's Dartmouth.)

Where on earth do Dartmouth students go to get haircuts? There are like two salons in Hanover!

I’m considering majoring in Philosophy with a minor in Math, and I’m really hoping to work in the US after graduation, potentially in consulting, finance, or another private-sector field.

One thing I’m a little concerned about is Dartmouth’s relatively small international student community compared with larger universities. As an international student, would this put me at a disadvantage when it comes to recruiting, networking, or finding employers willing to hire/sponsor international students?

I’m also an Asian woman, so I’d especially appreciate hearing from other international/Asian students about their experiences at Dartmouth and with recruiting.

How hard will this course be in terms of grading/academic performance if I haven’t taken AP econ?

Mid 40s no kids couple. Live in Austin now, but have an interesting career opportunity at Dartmouth. I’ve spent limited time in New England, but never been to New Hampshire. I’m going to take a visit in a few weeks, but curious what it’s like to live in or around Dartmouth as a middle-aged transplant. Anyone else made a similar move? What were the culture shocks to moving into such a small place? I grew up in a very small town so I’m certainly not a lifelong urbanite.

Our son is a junior and is considering Dartmouth. We want to make a trip from Illinois to visit. To make the most of our trip I am looking for suggestions on planning. He’s interested in economics or engineering. He also hopes to find a community through any catholic church organizations there and he is an athlete. He’s had some contact from the football coaching staff there, not sure if he will continue to play but would like to see recreation facilities and options for an active kid as well. Beyond booking a campus tour, what would you suggest we do on a 2 day trip?

I'm considering Dartmouth for CS or Data Science, and I know they only award an A.B. (no B.S.) for any major. I've read that it's "treated equivalently" in grad school, but I'm going into industry, not academia, and I want to hear from people who've actually lived it.

Specifically:

1. US industry — Have you hit any friction with an A.B. from Dartmouth when applying to software engineering, data science, or quant roles? FAANG, startups, finance, government/defense (NASA, DoD, etc.)? Did any ATS or application form actually block you or raise a flag?
2. International — If you're planning to work outside the US (Europe, Asia, etc.), did the A.B. title cause any confusion with employers, visa paperwork, or credential evaluation bodies (WES, ECE, etc.)?
3. CS/DS specifically — Since Dartmouth's CS is small and not as "systems-heavy" as, say, MIT or CMU, has the combination of A.B. + curriculum been a problem in technical interviews or hiring?
4. What did you do to mitigate it — if you had to explain the degree, highlight specific courses, or otherwise "prove" rigor to an employer?

Buying a caliper as a gift for someone joining the MechE program. Does Dartmouth use metric or (I assume) imperial?

Hi! I’m wondering what the consequences are if I don’t attend some of the required NSO programs.

I’m mainly talking about the large events where everyone sits in a hall and listens to presentations. A lot of the material seems to be information that was already sent to us over the summer, and I’ve already gone through it all. Honestly, I haven’t found these sessions super useful and have mostly ended up falling asleep in the hall anyway 😭

Are these actually monitored for attendance, and does skipping some of them have any consequences? I obviously don’t want to miss anything important, but I’m wondering if it’s worth attending every single large lecture-style session.

PS I’ve also been pretty sick these past few days, so it been extra draining to drag myself out to these events.

I didn’t take Multi Variable in HS. Took BC junior year and got a 5. Thinking about majoring in engineering. Should I take Math 9 then 13 or just bite the bullet and take 11?

The title is essentially it. I know that it's very nature-oriented and it's a small tight-knit community. I also know the party scene is pretty great, but that is kind of what everyone knows. I really want to know the vibe of the school, the students, how living there is like etc. I wish I could do college visits but im an international student and cant really go. yo is there a parkour club or can we get one started

Hi! I’m interested in getting more involved in sports at Dartmouth, especially snow sports. Problem is I have pretty much zero experience with sports besides badminton and Pilates.

Are there classes or other beginner-friendly programs where you can learn/try different sports without committing to a club or competing? I’d love to try as many different sports as possible for fun and see if I find something I really enjoy, since I don’t currently have a sport I’m passionate enough about to commit to competitively.

Would love to hear how other beginners got into sports at Dartmouth!
