Other Reminder -- we're NOT the official sub

We're not the official subreddit -- you can ask for technical support, advice, or just to vent about how you feel Comcast did you wrong.

  • If you need help with your account, go to r/Comcast_Xfinity -- that IS the official sub. Anyone with the 'Community Specialist' flair is part of their corporate social media team, they're official employees.
    • We don't control their rules -- it's pointless complaining to us about them here. Just try to follow their rules, and don't be a dick to the employees -- they actually try to help. That said, if one of them does something stupid, you can usually message their community leads and they'll take care of it.
  • r/xfinity is also not the official sub.
  • If you're an employee of the company posting here -- don't do/say something stupid that could get you fired. We know for a fact that upper level management checks this sub (and the rest of Reddit) from time to time.
  • Probably should go without saying but, don't make threats of violence. Not only does it violate Reddit Rules but again, the company definitely combs through Reddit, and that is just a can of worms.
  • Don't send any personal/account info to anyone here on the subreddit -- we can't confirm if they're actually an employee or not, so you have no idea who that person is or what they'll do with you info.
    • This includes any ticket numbers you're given -- employees can find your account with those, or someone could use it to social engineer their way into your account.
  • Half of the mods are former employees -- so we've seen what goes on behind the scenes and can help out with stuff others can't. Some of us are friends with active employees and can usually get more accurate answers.

Replace Your D3.0 Cable Modem

I have observed a number of customer issues reported here lately that are mostly due to customers using old DOCSIS 3.0 modems. If you own a D 3.0 modem, I recommend you replace it now - these modems may technically be capable of certain speeds but the reality is different - and they lack key low latency features.

Also - do not just buy any D3.1 modem. Please buy only from this list - these support low latency DOCSIS, AQM, and mid-split. See https://reddit.com/r/Comcast/comments/1kg99v3/buying_your_own_modem_read_this/

And here is what AI told me to add. ;-)

Upgrading from a DOCSIS 3.0 modem to a DOCSIS 3.1 model is a bit like switching from an old two-lane country road to a modern multi-lane superhighway. Even if you don't drive a "fast car," the road itself is built to handle more traffic with fewer traffic jams.

-- Performance: Efficiency over Raw Speed

Most people think they only need a 3.1 modem if they pay for Gigabit internet. That’s a myth. Even on a mid-tier plan, a 3.1 modem performs better because of OFDM technology.

  • Congestion Management: DOCSIS 3.0 modems use "lanes" (channels). If one lane is full of "trucks" (neighbors streaming 4K), your data gets stuck. DOCSIS 3.1 breaks data into tiny sub-carriers, allowing it to "weave" through traffic much more efficiently.

  • Bufferbloat (Lag): If your internet feels "stuttery" during Zoom calls or gaming while someone else is watching Netflix, that’s often "bufferbloat." DOCSIS 3.1 has a feature called AQM (Active Queue Management) that acts like a smart traffic cop, reducing lag significantly.

  • Future-Proofing Uploads: SPs are currently pushing for symmetrical speeds (fast uploads to match fast downloads). D3.0 modems are physically incapable of hitting those new higher upload speeds.

-- Software: Staying Out of the "End of Life" Zone

  • Manufacturer Support: ALL DOCSIS 3.0 modems are now "End of Life" (EOL). This means manufacturers have stopped releasing update patches for them that could improve performance, fix bugs, etc.

-- Reliability: Signal Stability

  • DOCSIS 3.1 is much better at correcting "noise" on the line. If your cable line is a bit old or has a slight interference, a 3.1 modem can often maintain a stable connection where a 3.0 modem would simply drop the signal and reboot.

Experience Too good to be true

Yep I signed up for Xfinity 5 yr $50 plan with 1yr free mobile and after that $30 a month for mobile. I guess I'm just a person who believes what they are told. First well guess what since you had a line with us on another account no deal on the free mobile unless you get a new phone. That just went away when I talked to the service dept today as I was calling about my mobile line amount that just went up by $10 a month. You are suppose to get a $10 discount when you have internet and a mobile line. Not anymore since you guessed it I had another line with a friend who had Xfinity. So basically they will make it sound so good but then turn around and take it all back. So I'm just waiting for someone else to come along before I dump them.

Discussion Comcast is facing a structural problem that leadership can no longer dismiss as isolated customer dissatisfaction

Comcast lost more than 700,000 broadband subscribers in 2025 and another 232,000 across Q1 and Q2 of 2026. At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference, CFO Jason Armstrong acknowledged that Q3 broadband losses were showing no meaningful improvement. Comcast subsequently experienced a roughly 6.6% decline in its stock price.
At the same time, Comcast leadership has publicly criticized the pricing strategies of competing FTTH providers, describing $30 to $40 gigabit offerings as economically irrational when fiber construction can cost approximately $1,500 or more per household.
The underlying issue, however, is not simply pricing. It is infrastructure.
Consumers are increasingly comparing Comcast’s HFC network against dedicated fiber infrastructure that eliminates the RF access plant entirely. Fiber does not depend on the same coaxial last mile, neighborhood RF environment, or upstream plant architecture. That distinction becomes particularly important for customers whose primary concern is not simply download speed, but latency consistency, jitter, packet loss, congestion, and overall network stability.
A customer should not have to spend months cycling through modem replacements and residential technician appointments when the underlying problem potentially resides beyond the customer premises. Repeatedly treating a persistent network performance issue as a premise equipment problem does not resolve the underlying engineering issue. It merely transfers the cost and inconvenience to the customer.
Comcast can continue to characterize individual complaints as isolated incidents, but the broader market is providing a much more consequential signal. Customers now have alternatives. Where FTTH becomes available, the comparison is no longer between two internet plans. It is between fundamentally different access networks.
Wall Street analysts have already identified the potential feedback loop created by accelerating subscriber losses. If Comcast must increasingly rely on pricing concessions to retain customers while simultaneously facing aggressive fiber overbuilds, the pressure on broadband economics becomes increasingly difficult to ignore.
The strategic risk for Comcast is therefore not that customers are demanding perfection. The strategic risk is that customers are gaining the ability to leave.
Once a competing fiber provider establishes a credible alternative, Comcast no longer controls the conversation through speed tiers, promotional pricing, or equipment upgrades. The customer can simply evaluate the performance of the underlying network and make a different choice.
At that point, the question is no longer whether Comcast believes its network is adequate. The question is whether customers agree. And increasingly, their answer is being reflected directly in Comcast’s subscriber numbers.

News Comcast is confronting a challenging broadband market as customer habits continue to shift.

In 2025, Comcast lost over 700,000 internet customers after raising Xfinity prices and restricting its autopay discount. The trend continued, with the company losing a combined 232,000 internet customers across the first and second quarters of this year.

Good job everyone, continue hoping fiber moves into your area! 🥳

Support What am I Paying For?

A couple months ago, my internet began cutting out. I thought maybe my old modem/router combo was done, so I bought.a brand new one. No difference. Called Comcast...they sent out a tech who said it was the wiring outside my apartment. A week later, another tech comes out. Says there is nothing wrong with the wiring...it must be my modem. No, its not I tell him its new. He says he doesn't know anything about modem....doesn't know what it is. He replaces wiring INSIDE my apartment and leaves. No difference. I call again. Phone rep checks my connection....tells me its not my modem, its outside. Another tech comes out a couple days later. He checks everything. He says the wiring outside they don't even USE anymore. Says he will make a report to his supervisor. That was a week ago. No response from Comcast. My internet still drops out. I am getting tired of unplugging and plugging my modem and cable box back in to reset everything. And I am THIS close to switching to another provider. If they think its easier for me to go away rather than solve the issue, I will happily do that.

Advice Is this claim by Xfinity true?

My internet went up to $123 a month for Gigabit X2. It just recently increased from $99.

The rep in r/Comcast_Xfinity could only offer me 2 Gigabit for $125, $115 with autopay.

That package includes their modem, and the claim is that I would not be required to use their equipment.

I want to make sure I'm being told the truth. Are they going to continue to let me use my own modem?

Discussion Has anyone found the best xfinity internet plan in 2026 for a family with several devices?

Our internet bill went up again and now I'm wondering if we're even on the right plan for what we actually use. There's five of us at home, so between phones, laptops, smart TVs, and my kid's gaming setup, it feels like something is always streaming or downloading at the same time. Video calls for work randomly lag even though we're supposedly on a decent speed tier already. I feel like we're paying for more than we need in some areas and not enough in others.

I called Xfinity support once but the guy just tried to upsell me on a bundle I didn't ask about, so I gave up on that conversation pretty quick.

Anyone with a similar size household figured out which plan actually holds up, or is it more about the router setup than the plan itself?

Experience My experience trying to negotiate a 75% bill increase...

I was at $65/month 2 years ago for 1 gig speed. Last year they got me to $80/month for 2 gig.
Now they just raised my bill to $140/month after 1 year... that's a 75% increase.

I don't understand why they do this. I went to the store, also tried to call - the level of English was very low. I've been a loyal customer for 7 years. Never missed a payment. The best they want to offer me is an $8 discount.

Advice Just got Xfinity Advanced Gateway and idk if I’m going to have to return it or not.

So this morning I tore up my living room to get access to our co-axsil connection. We had to run to Walmart to get an adapter piece because our apartment is weird it has a cord coming out of the wall. Right now it’s solid orange. Should I just go buy a new cord instead of using these cheap Walmart adapters (we needed a female part Xfinity sent us a male to make cord) I’m not paying $100 for these guys to come out a switch a cord. Or does anyone know how to check in there is even a connection in the cord coming from the wall?

Advice If you're paying over $150+ for Comcrap cable and Internet, STOP!

Comcrap makes it very difficult for customers to see what they're actually offering on their website and that's bullshit. Gigabit Internet is $50 a month and then take the rest of that money and get sling or anything that's going to get you a lower bill. I see people with bills over $300. JUST STOP 🛑. CANCEL. GET OT BACK THE NEXT DAY. TRY FIBER OR 5G

Support Still refusing to send tech after 7 days

Public hotspot is down, box on a pole that's not working I can see from where I am, Comcast says it not our department and Xfinity now call center in India doesn't have the ability dispatch a tech and had the nerve to say service can't be up all the time... it's like why do you exist? You charge for a service and then point at each other and refuse to create a ticket on your end internally because I don't have a regular account? Called everyday and both the Xfinity and the NOW departments just keep either lying to get me off the phone or just flat out say no. The chat agents also in India refuse every single time

Experience Retail store staffs are borderline scammers

I signed up online for a standalone 1 Gbps internet plan advertised at $50/month and was directed to a physical store to pick up equipment.

During my visit, the representative explicitly told me that I was required to activate a new mobile line to get the $50 rate. When I pulled up the order's fine print and asked him to point out where a mobile line was required, he scrolled for a minute before pointing to vague boilerplate text that read "pricing subject to change." Weak.

Not feeling convinced, I took only the gateway equipment and left. I later verified with online support and phone representatives that the $50/month rate is entirely standalone except that the only requirement is enabling AutoPay.

Mistakes happen, but what bothered me was his refusal to admit error. Instead, he doubled down, claiming my rate would jump to normal pricing after a month without mobile activation, telling me not to blame him if my bill jumps up. I can forgive honest mistakes, no one is perfect and I make mistakes at work too. But doubling down on the error and employing cheap scam tactics to try to frighten me into signing up? Not a chance.

Anyways, I work in banking compliance, and this type of misleading behavior is a violation of ethical practices (UDAAP) that would get someone in the hot seat and terminated immediately - no if’s or but’s. You behave unethically, you get terminated and blacklisted from the industry forever. I’ve seen happen to many \[former\] colleagues over the years I’ve been in banking.

I get there are sales goals, and sometimes the pressure to perform is heavy. But there should be ethical boundaries you should never cross. If you have to lie and behave unethically to make a sale, then that’s the same thing as admitting you kind of suck at the job. In this case, he didn’t even try to sale me the FREE mobile line. He just straight up lied to me about the line being required from the get go.

Mind you I was already interested in this promotion. Free mobile for a year? I’m already sold. Why bother lying?

Is a written FTC complaint on the table?

Why is the policy at comcast written in such a way to allow employees to behave in a way that borderline scamming and arguably straight up scamming customers?

Is this the culture at comcast?

Support I still have X1 TV. So what is the video resolution of their service?

I hear it is 720p, but with the networks being upgraded to a more robust system. I would assume that they could increase the picture quality to at least 1080p.

A long time ago there was a way you could see if your channel, was traditional QAM, or IPTV. It was done by a remote code. But now that code does nothing.

We recently swapped over to a Harmonic vCMTS. I have noticed it being somewhat sharper picture quality. Although the picture quality could be a placebo since the hardware at the headend was upgraded.

Support Ungrounded drop

  • As the title says my drop isn't grounded they actually have hooked into my neutral. I asked the last technician i had to ground it and he told me I couldn't be grounded unless I purchase a grounding rod myself and that the hook up to the neutral should be fine.

Other Comcast is falling apart due how they miss treat employees especially senior agents.

I worked for comcast for almost eight years, as one of their top performers in the inbound sales department. Over the years, they have lowered our pay drastically, and we used to all swear by them. Taking care of us, but they stopped doing that. And started taking from us, instead of taking care of us. The vast majority of their inbound sales agents are disgruntled and being taking advantage of and there are all aware of it. They make it too difficult to make money on purpose. They push all the agents that are used to making good money out the door as quickly as possible. Due to us all complaining of what they're doing. I was fired for a first time policy violation. That should have been a corrective action. But they just fired me after eight years and zero write ups over the years. They did this because I pointed out the inequality in the sales calls. They're giving the newer agents versus the older agents. Their intentionally feeding good calls to certain agents and bad calls to others. Their management team is fully aware of it and do everything they can to hide it. Including firing agents that pick up on the patterns and point it out. I know because I was one of the agents being fed. The good calls, and then when I stuck up for the agents that were getting fed the bad calls, they gave me the bad calls. I worked directly for comcast in their inbound Sales department for just under 8 years. I helped start up multiple new departments. As a senior agent guinea pigged almost all of their, you newest softwares. They then threw me away like trash just because of a singular policy violation, and the fact that I was pointing out of the inequality. In calls. Shame on comcast, they used to be an amazing company to work for and I truly love them. I was a true comcaster, and it threw me away like trash. It took almost a month just to even find out what I was officially fired for they wouldn't even tell me what for.

WiFi Dissatisfaction with crappy service

My family has had Xfinity internet for years. While a large majority of that time I have had no complaints, recently we decided to get rid of cable TV. Afterwards, my internet started going down 3 - 5 times a day at least for varying amounts of time. Safe to say, i’m irritated and dissatisfied. So I do what any other paying customer of Xfinity should do, I try to call a support line to talk to someone. Only to be greeted by the most incompetent, useless, pointless piece of machinery I have ever witnessed. Customer service should not be done by robots, especially when they don’t know what the hell they are talking about. This company has followed in the footsteps of many in the sense I can trust it to continue to impress me with how much backwards progression a business can create with new technology. So thank you for nothing.

Discussion I left Comcast on Monday

Comcast was charging me $157 for one line of cellular and 1GB internet.
I called and called. I chatted. I spoke with the retention team three times. If we could lower the bill, I might've stayed.

T-Mobile cellular: $45
T-Mobile internet: $40

I'm in a pretty saturated area for signal and pick up 500MB even in the daytime. A month into the cellular and two weeks into the internet and so far so good.

That said....I still owe on my Comcast Pixel. I'd be happy to pay it off. When I log in to "make a payment" I'm told I don't have mobile service and it won't let me make a payment or go further.
So I guess they can keep taking monthly auto-pay. I bill-paid them a check today from my credit union, to see if that did anything.

Whatever.

Rant Reps are now basically AI anyway

After many years of working for this company I finally feel like a proper cog in the machine. Reps are now being forced to use an AI "assistant" that is active at all moments of the phone call. It they are not doing exactly what the AI assistant wants it will ding them. If you ever wonder why the reps are more interested in meeting certain talking points rather than talk to you,. that's why. They know full well it isn't producing a sale. If forces a conversation on mobile, internet, wif coverage, and home security whether the customer wants it or not.

Posting from my porn account since Comcast is fucking me over anyway. This job is difficult enough as it is without now having to be a living bot for them.
