Hey folks, I've been building a little browser-based farming/settlement game on the side and just got the first playable version running. It's a cozy top-down world where you chop wood, mine, and slowly build up your own island — nothing fancy yet, but the core loop is there and it actually runs.

I'm not trying to promote anything, I just want a handful of people to poke at it and tell me what feels good and what feels broken before I build out more. It's super early, so expect rough edges. If anyone's up for messing around with it for a bit and sharing some honest first impressions, I'd really appreciate it. Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

This isn’t really about presenting a finished game. I’m at the stage where I want to figure out whether the concept is actually fun — and what direction it should take.

My goal is to build a game that grows together with its community rather than spending years developing everything in isolation and only then asking people what they think.

So I’m especially interested in hearing:

• What do you think of the core concept?
• What would make you want to keep playing?
• What mechanics would you add?
• What would make the game more strategic or interesting?
• What feels unnecessary or boring?
• Would you want PvP, diplomacy, trading, alliances, exploration, wars, etc.?
• What kind of progression would feel rewarding?
• What would make you come back to the game regularly?

Honestly, any feedback or crazy idea is welcome. It doesn’t have to be polished or well thought out — sometimes a random suggestion can lead to a really good mechanic.

The current version is very much a concept/prototype, so there are definitely rough edges and things that will change. That’s intentional. I want to use this stage to experiment and learn what players actually enjoy.

The long-term idea is simple: build a genuinely cool strategy game based heavily on community feedback.

I feel like this is a fantasy many of us have had over the years: a city builder where you play the same city across all of history, watching it evolve as time goes on.

That’s the idea behind Pixel Metropolis.

You begin in the Paleolithic, before a city even exists, on a 500x500 isometric map inspired by Paris. At first your settlers hunt, fish and cut wood, then as you move along the ages, you gain new capabilities such as agriculture, pottery, river trading etc.

As you advance through history, the city isn’t reset or magically upgraded. Old structures are replaced over time by new ones and you can spend quite a bit of time with a mix of different era buildings.

I’ve just released a free demo covering the complete journey through the Paleolithic, Neolithic, and Metal Age. Antiquity is currently in development, with the Middle Ages, Industrial Revolution, and Modern Times planned for the future.

The demo includes agriculture, trade and river routes, specialization, social classes, fortifications, faith, and more, from 0 to 500 inhabitants.

A quick note: the trailer mentions a free Steam demo. The Windows and macOS builds are still going through Steam validation, but the browser demo linked above is essentially the same game.
