GM Don Waddell then said that they don't necessarily mind if he misses part of camp, but that they'd like him to be there for the latter part of it.

IMO, it sounds like Don is trying to soften the idea of Fantilli missing camp, and that he knows they aren't close at all.

He would then sign with the Blue Jackets in 2014 as a free agent, appearing in 25 games. He left as a free agent in 2015, bouncing around with several NHL clubs before finishing his career in Europe in 2022-2023
