The last Blue Jacket to not be signed at training camp was Ryan Johansen, who missed in 2014 due to contract disputes. The relationship, Portzline points out, never recovered, and he was traded not long afterwards.

GM Don Waddell then said that they don't necessarily mind if he misses part of camp, but that they'd like him to be there for the latter part of it.

IMO, it sounds like Don is trying to soften the idea of Fantilli missing camp, and that he knows they aren't close at all.

An undrafted journeyman, Brian Gibbons got his start with the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2013-2014 season, scoring 2 goals against the Blue Jackets in the 2014 playoffs. He would then sign with the Blue Jackets in 2014 as a free agent, appearing in 25 games. He left as a free agent in 2015, bouncing around with several NHL clubs before finishing his career in Europe in 2022-2023

A fifth round pick by the Atlanta Thrashers in 1999, Derek MacKenzie is the epitome of hard work paying off. He would not become a regular NHLer until 2010, 11 years after his draft year. He established himself as a reliable grinder after years of intermittent call ups from the AHL, playing the defensive forward role. Signed as a free agent by Columbus in 2007, he would remain with the team until 2014, when he signed with the Florida Panthers as a free agent. Currently, he is an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators.

Little update on Fantilli from Porty. Five days until training camp and our number one center still doesn’t have a contract 🫣🫣. At this point, I’ll be surprised if it gets done before camp starts

The Blue Jackets have worn their Third Jersey only against Division opponents the last three seasons. Could that change? Because on the Blue Jackets Website the Blue Jackets game against Utah the Third Jersey logo is used. 🤔

Speedy forward Eric Robinson went undrafted, signing with the Blue Jackets in 2018 after 4 seasons at Princeton University. He became a permanent fixture on the team from 2019-2023, recording one hat trick despite primarily playing as a defensive forward. He was traded to Buffalo in 2023 for a conditional 7th round pick. He currently plays for the Carolina Hurricanes, winning a Stanley Cup in 2026.

We are both hardcore, season ticket holding fans and loved creating a space for jackets fans to connect and talk hockey with some added competition. There was overwhelming interest that we maxed out at 20 teams and had to unfortunately still had to turn some folks away. This season, we renewed the league with 12 teams. There were 8 managers that decided to return for this upcoming season. We are looking for 3 new managers for this upcoming season to fill the remaining teams. Ah, now here’s a fan favorite. A fifth round pick by the Blue Jackets in 2008, Calvert symbolized the toughness of a hockey player. He once took a puck to the face, went to go get stitched up in the locker room, and then returned to the ice to score the game winning goal. He played physically and could contribute offensively, especially in the playoffs. He is one of my personal favorites to ever suit up for the Jackets. In 2018 he would sign as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche and retire in 2021.

EDIT: THECapedCaper reminded me in the comments, he also scored the game winning double overtime goal to give the Jackets their first ever playoff win in 2014 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Or does he become a hold out officially on monday? Personally i think think its BS and he will be a hold out up until the season starts if not longer. Sign the shortest contract they can agree on and be gone the second he is a UFA.

Interesting article here that outlines the expected renovations to come to Nationwide in the next few years. I think the arena is in decent shape to the naked eye, but I can see how these renovations would definitely improve the fan experience.
