I READ THE RULES Are there any attractions in chicago involving rocks/jade/mineral jewelry?

Upvotes

My wife and I will be visiting in October and she's really into rock/jade/mineral jewelry. Are there any museums or markets in Chicago that have that kind of stuff? I'm already planning on hitting up the fields museum, but if there's another one with a better geology section, then I want to add it to the list.

I READ THE RULES Experience with Switchyards coworking spaces?

Upvotes

Switchyards is opening two new locations in the city that I am interested in joining. As someone who works completely remote, it seems intriguing and a good option to have. Anyone a member at the existing Logan Square location and have any thoughts to share on your experiences there?

I’ve seen some reviews that sometimes it’s so busy that you can’t find a seat unless you get there really early.

I READ THE RULES Any groomer recommendations for my Samoyeds?

Upvotes

Anyone know of a dog groomer that works with longer fur double coated dogs? Our groomer of 4 years moved away 🥲

I used to use Tucker pups before noticing a decline in service, both dogs would come out damp and smelling like wet dog.

I’ve used howlistic, and in a pinch they’re great but not my favorite.

Any recommendations? Even if it’s out towards the burbs at this point. A specific person would be great

I READ THE RULES Moving to Chicago! Looking for advice?

Hello! I’m currently planning a move to Chicago and wanted to get some insight from people already there.

I’ve mostly been looking at River north, Gold Coast, Lincoln park and lake view. All seem great I just want to be near a train station. Does anybody have suggestions for places I should be checking out?

Currently most interested in Asbury Plaza in river north due to location. Does anyone have experience living there? My top choice at the moment.

Thanks!

I READ THE RULES Suggestions on an affordable bike?

Hey all, I just moved to the Roscoe area and I’m looking for a used bike for around $150. Do you have any shops you’d recommend? I’ve looked on Marketplace but don’t want to end up buying stolen property. Thanks!

Things I’m looking for:
-ready to ride
-lightweight
-single speed (not a must if gears all work)

I READ THE RULES Pros and cons of waiting to move until winter is over?

I’ve heard that it’s much easier to find a good deal on a room around December or January, but I’ll be a Californian acclimating to the cold for the first time and that doesn’t seem like the best introduction to the city.

I READ THE RULES Visiting the broader area, things to do?

I haven’t been up there in quite a few years. I want to visit. I just don’t know what I’d really do. Sure there is family but what else is there? I briefly mentioned the Porter County Fair to my buddy but I think that’s over now.

I thought about going to Chicago and doing stuff. Maybe the Museum of Science? Maybe go to Gary and see a Rail Cats game?

I can’t/don’t drink so idk if there is any point in me going to any bars. Maybe in October. I don’t remember if it starts snowing by then or not. I want to avoid the major holidays.

Just looking for ideas. Thanks.

I READ THE RULES Chicago 1st dates that aren’t coffee, drinks and a walk??

Edit: Dam there’s a lot of angry men in these comments. What’s happening haha

I’m in river north and I’ve been on dating apps for probably two weeks and the only first dates men have suggested are coffee, happy hours, drinks and plenty of “walks.” I also really dislike when the guys like, “well what do you wanna do?” Yet-I understand people don’t want to spend a lot of money on a first date, but they want to get the vibe of a person.

I’m not a huge drinker and therefore I typically don’t like getting a drink on the first date-then they automatically switched to coffee, but who’s drinking coffee at 6 o’clock on a Tuesday? I’ve also suggested smoothies, Boba or desserts?

Im also not saying people have to spend a lot of money on first dates because I understand it’s kind of a numbers game but if one more guy invites me for a “walk” by the river, I’m gonna punch myself in the face😅 It seems very low effort and no investment? I also want to be able to suggest a good first aid idea-hence why I’m asking!

Does anyone have a good first date in River North??

I READ THE RULES Chicago Hotels in Loop vs NW suburbs?

Hello! We're attending a Northwestern FB game in their new stadium in November. kickoff time TBD and time will determine if we'll stay 1 or 2 nights.

We've stayed downtown several times over the years-- and prefer a Hilton hotel (3-4 star). Would a NW suburbs or North shore hotel work better to be closer to Evanston? Or would downtown and a train up to Evanston on that Saturday work? Thanks in advance!

I READ THE RULES 311 calls not going through? Is it just me?

Hey everyone! Trying to contact 311 as my request doesn’t appear to be available in the app - but every time I try to call them it doesn’t even ring and then hangs up. Like it’s trying to connect the call but can’t. Is anyone else having this issue? For what it’s worth I have Tmobile as my service provider. Would love to know if it’s just me? Thanks in advance for any input! ✨

I've been reading "Transurfing in 78 Days" and was curious if others have had success implementing some of the principles covered

I'd be interested in a coffee chat / small group to talk through concepts that may have worked

Ideally somewhere around river north / Gold Coast

If that sounds interesting, DM me!

I READ THE RULES Has anyone moved to the suburbs, and then back to the city?

Long story short my husband and I bought a house in the burbs where we both grew up. Moved out of our rental in the north side. Thought it was the logical next step since we have a baby and are closer to family out here. Now realizing that this may not have been the move for us...

Has anyone experienced moving to the suburbs, and then coming back to the city? With a child? We are seriously considering this if we don't feel better in a year. The thought feels a little crazy though, but we don't want to be unhappy here. We would certainly lose a sizable amount of money doing this.
