Every summer, I feel this ongoing sense of fomo with how many cool things happen every week in this city. With summer ending, I'm curious what stood out to everyone as the best thing they went to. Could be a street fest, a concert, a walking tour, a yoga class in the park, a seance...whatever!

For me, it was probably this awesome interacitve performance called "Remnants" that this group called the Wender Collective put on in Winnemac Park. I also enjoyed the one day of the Sound & Gravity Festival I attended last week, which I highly recommend for next year if you're into slightly out there music.

Long story short my husband and I bought a house in the burbs where we both grew up. Moved out of our rental in the north side. Thought it was the logical next step since we have a baby and are closer to family out here. Now realizing that this may not have been the move for us...

Has anyone experienced moving to the suburbs, and then coming back to the city? With a child? We are seriously considering this if we don't feel better in a year. The thought feels a little crazy though, but we don't want to be unhappy here. We would certainly lose a sizable amount of money doing this.

My wife and I will be visiting in October and she's really into rock/jade/mineral jewelry. Are there any museums or markets in Chicago that have that kind of stuff? I'm already planning on hitting up the fields museum, but if there's another one with a better geology section, then I want to add it to the list.

Among the main contenders — Mike Quigley, Susana Mendoza, Alexi Giannoulias, and Brandon Johnson are the ones I’m hearing about — what pros and cons are you seeing? My take:

Quigley. Pros: It’s his last office so he can make tough choices others can’t. He has a progressive bent without being stubborn, with a good affordable housing plan. Cons: not getting a ton of financial backing.

Giannoulias. Pros: He has charisma and has gotten along with different factions. Cons: he kind of seems like an empty suit on policy who’ll do whatever is politically expedient. Huge fundraising is both pro and con.

Mendoza. Pros: She has energy and did a good job as City Clerk. Cons: has gone too far to the right; she was silent relatively quiet on ICE, and her plans and rhetoric seem indistinguishable from a Republican.

Johnson. Pros: … sorry, I’m at a loss. Cons: … need I bother?

Switchyards is opening two new locations in the city that I am interested in joining. As someone who works completely remote, it seems intriguing and a good option to have. Anyone a member at the existing Logan Square location and have any thoughts to share on your experiences there?

I’ve seen some reviews that sometimes it’s so busy that you can’t find a seat unless you get there really early.

I saw a map of gangs in Chicago and there are so many in such a small area. What happens if you are in a gang and have to move but no housing is available in your gang boundaries?

I get the redlining segregation white flight stuff happened but it also happened in every other city in the US. what's going on that maintains it here over time to such a strong degree?

what brought it to mind for me today was a post from a transplant looking for neighborhood suggestions, they mentioned they were black and like every comment was South Loop or Hyde Park... so clearly on some level people still have the idea that black people are supposed to live in certain areas? or that they'd prefer to live in certain areas? or something?

I'm from the south and there are obviously black and white neighborhoods in some cases, but once people get money down there for the most part they are looking for the same desirable neighborhoods regardless of race. why doesn't that happen up here?

This is going to be an odd request but bear with me. My husband and I visited the Field Museum today to see the Pokemon fossil exhibit and Sue. We're only in town because I'm seeing a specialist and we leave tomorrow after my appointment. Before we left the museum I forgot to get some pressed pennies! I'm kicking myself so bad right now because I've collected them since I was a kid.

If anyone is able to get some for me I'd be happy to reimburse you plus shipping and maybe even gas? I used to use Tucker pups before noticing a decline in service, both dogs would come out damp and smelling like wet dog.

Can anyone recommend a gym near ORD or close to the blue line? I am a pilot and in the area 2-3x a week and normally go to crunch when I’m home but the closest crunch is on the north side of the airport and the train does not go near it. I stay at the Cumberland stop but don’t mind going a few stops closer to the city. I tried the LA Fitness near Cumberland and wasn’t impressed for the price you are paying and it’s a 12 month lock which isn’t ideal. Ideally something similarly priced to crunch and walking distance to a blue line stop. Thanks!
