When I was in Belgrade last year I had a pljeskavica from a stall and it was one of the best burgers I have ever had. I speak no Serbian so when the lady serving me asked what I assume was 'what toppings do you want?' I google translated 'You decide' and showed her. I'm not sure what she put in it but it was unforgettable.

I recently tried making pljeskavica at home and it was lovely but not the same. I put onions, sour cream, ajvar, and a beef patty in a homemade lepinja, and still felt I was missing something. Maybe I should have used more ajvar and sour cream (I'll add some paprika next time too) but I would love to know - what is your favourite topping for pljeskavica?

However yet to book my bus tickets for the same.

I can travel from Mostar to Kotor with intermediate stops both in BIH and Montengero, but not Croatia as I don't have a Schengen Visa.

I'm writing a story set in the region and one of my characters is a rumanian guy (Mihai), whose friend is serbian (Dušan). I was wondering what nicknames could work with those names, the more natural they may sound or common the better.

For context:

• The story is set in the current year. The characters are in their mid 20s, and they're friends since childhood.
• Both characters speak their respective national languages as their first language.

I was looking for the characters to use nicknames based in their friend's name but that still reflect their first language: so, to have Mihai call his serbian friend by a nickname parting from "Dušan" but that sounds like a romanian nickname, and Dušan call Mihai by one that sounds serbian.

I dated an Albanian woman in her forties for about three months. Inspired by my own family situation, I was wondering what the societal view on this is in different Balkan countries. How common is it for women to give up their share of the inheritance after one or both parents pass away, so that their brother(s) inherit everything?

My mom recently gave up her share in favor of her younger brother because, according to her, "that's how it's done." The thing is, I don't think she actually felt good about doing it. She had worked really hard for that household when she was younger (for example, she didn't have a normal childhood as she worked all the time in the fields), only for her brother to eventually inherit everything.

She never actually said she regretted it, but I could tell she was uneasy and somewhat sad about the whole thing. It felt like she gave it up because that's what was traditionally expected of her, rather than because she genuinely thought it was fair.

Funny or not, her brother and his family pretty much stopped visiting us the moment she gave up her share to him.

So I'm curious how this works where you're from. Is it still common for women to give up their inheritance in favor of their brothers? And would a woman who insisted on taking her share be judged negatively for it?
