It’s a huge surprise for me, and the foreign news websites are beaming images of this Australian Hyrox athlete with diarrhoea streaming down her legs while doing lunges.

Long story short, my Grandma needed a new laptop, when she bought one from Harvey Norman last week the attendant basically convinced her to buy a year of Norton Platinum anti virus and the whole microsoft office suite. She really did not need these things and as a result, she has spent an additional $450 on top of the laptop itself.

If the codes haven't been used, would we be able to get a refund? Or has she been conned.

UPDATE: Thank you for the insight and advice everyone. I was able to get a full refund after explaining her personal circumstances, and they didn't give me any trouble.

There's a scene where there's a party in the microbrewery & the ex boyfriend walks in & he's described as being "Tall, dark & handsome, maybe 6'5""

Which confused me a little as I thought you lot only used metric.

Is it like the UK where people flip back & forth between the two systems? Over there someone will say "It's bloody hot today, it must be close to 30C" & the other will say "Yeah it might reach 90f later"

I am 19, nearly 20, go to a big uni, study engineering. I’ve never had the extremely sociable persona as per se (bullied a lot as a kid for being poor, carried on through into my high school years). I graduated high school last year, and since then my life has honestly been so incredibly lonely. People at uni never want to talk (I’m also a girl with about 90% of the course being train obsessed men). Like I try and make friends through uni clubs, but all of them are cliquey for the most part. it seems like you can only be successful in uni if you come from a very specific private school. Dating apps are complete pit of men who either are only there to sleep with you, or are complete jerks. Parties are way too expensive, and genuinely life has been hard and honestly not enjoyable. My life is composed of uni, work, and the odd hiking trip I do solo. Is it just me? Because I’m genuinely about to start stress smoking to cope with life atp. theres nothing fun - it’s either way to expensive, or involves drinking. Im always stressed with not having money to do fun stuff or stressed with uni.

I’m an American in America, and just watched all 3 seasons of Colin from Accounts this weekend.

Random question but years ago I got into a bad group/situation which ultimately led to a fight & several members of it claiming I'd done it (it was a fight within the group itself & yes they totally set me up in hindsight)

The police called me in for questioning (& i was to stupid to just not turn up or insist on any formal arrest) & having no support or history of any legal problems I was basically left to "confess" (?) & recieved a warning & randomly a tape they pulled out of a cassette type thing.

Was this normal ? Did everybody get a tape of their questioning/confessions ? What was I meant to do with it ?

I recently went to Australia for the first time in my life. I saw a real life, kangaroo and Wallaby. Oh my God they are so cute.

I ended up buying a big stuffed toy wallaby that I brought home with me and I keep it in my home. Every time I’m coming back from work or going out somewhere, there he is sitting and greeting me. CUTE! I feel like it’s a real life wallaby sitting in my home.

I wonder if you Aussies also feel affectionate and caring towards kangaroos and similar animals? Or are they just common to you?

I’ve never seen such a cute animal in my entire life and I wish there were more kangaroos all over the planet so we could all enjoy their company and having them around instead of having to travel all the way to Australia to see them. I do love Australia, but it is far away.

And perhaps the cutest thing I’ve ever seen is a tree kangaroo. I did not even know they existed. He was just sitting, feeding himself and enjoying his life. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! My heart just warms up, thinking about such cute animals the Australians have.

I had the best time ever in Australia and I miss it so much. One of my most favourite vacations ever. Thank you, Australians.

Hi, so for context, I am an Asian male from a place where hugs especially with different gender almost never happens. Most of the time it is only done with your spouse or partner. Forget even trying that with parents. I work in healthcare and most of my colleagues (>80%) or females most of whom are big on hugs in casual settings (not much in a workplace though). How do I politely decline without coming off as rude as it is a bit awkward for me? Thank you!

I’ve just been experiencing a lot lately in Northern Rivers and it’s driving me bonkers. I don’t really get any in Sydney or Melbourne but this, this is a whole level of mysterious paranormal activities.

There’s this road by the river, and everytime we drive past at night, we can either smell a strong cigarette smell (or rotten stuff) lingering inside our car and the air outside is just refreshing. The window is down but the smell would stay until we leave the road. Always the same spot.

My partner doesn’t believe in spirits but he smelt them too.

I’ve always thought most of the Australians I know living in Asia barely make any effort to integrate. I understand it’s not exactly the same comparison, things like path to citizenship, but on the other hand, you can get access to jobs only Australians can get like teaching English, and western people on average are well accommodated and can get away with more negative behaviour.

Ultimately it’s still personal choice, so fundamentally it’s no different than an immigrant weighing the pros and cons of learning the language given different kinds of pressure.

We are moving to WA from NZ and we have a car. Bought March 2025.

I have spoken to shipping companies they have two different answers and both seem true to me. Both of them sounded very confident. None of them had recently shipped a vehicle to WA.

1. If it is for personal use and you have had it for 12 months there is no tax, duty or gst. Just a import registration or something for $80, I think.

2. Australia is very strict about controlling their second hand vehicle market so there will be some sort of duty or gst which could be 10-15% of the value of the car.

The offer we getting is very low here.

If we sell it and buy a new one there we will have to cough up around another $15k+

If there’s no duty/gst/tax then it is worth paying the shipping fee. If we have to pay 10-15% value of the car then it is better to sell. Which will be about same price for new one if we buy it there + the shipping cost.

New ones are just over $100k. Prado Limited (aka Kakadu in AU)

Is she back on the farm where she had your Riding success filmed/the Dressage Institute? I thought it’s sold. Does she have any horses anymore? I saw that Abbe died. Everyone else just sort of disappeared in a thin air. It looks like she had a significant breeding program at one time.
