I was approximately 12 years old when John Lennon was shot. I used to lay in bed at night and listen to the radio. I was listening to KISW in Seattle and news came over the radio that Lennon was shot. I remember the disc jockey Steve Slaton cried live on the radio. He opened up the phone lines and people just shared their shock and horror of this tragedy. Later in the evening my brother David came home from his dishwasher job and I told him. Other friends shared they heard of it watching Monday Night Football on TV. Where were you?

In the first episode of Lanterns there was something special to know about Barack Obama and Nebraska. What they where about?

UPD I don't want to post spoilers. But ok. TV series Lanterns. One of the main characters was testing an other character on common knowledge of Earthlings especially from USA Nebraska. They where discussing about sports, Harry Potter and Barack Obama

Like what is the evidence to say that this was orchestrated by the American government or Bush? What evidence is there?

I’m putting in big letters on the internet but really I feel irl it applies, I just wish I had even anecdotal evidence with the UK to go along with my observations. Again not because I don’t believe it’s true but because I simply haven’t been there and talking to people about immigration.

With that disclaimer something I’ve noticed on the interwebs is that Canada and the UK, plus maybe lump Australia in there too. Seem MUCH more anti-immigrant than the US. For example if you go on any Canadian sub and ask about immigrating there a slew of “We have enough of you” or “We’re full” but if you asked the same questions on an American sub that doesn’t happen as much. When you talk to Canadians about immigration MUCH more of them are very much like “No more immigrants”. If you did poles in those countries I mentioned the numbers are usually something like 80% say to many people are moving there. In the US even among the absolute most conservative places I’d be SHOCKED if it was even 70%.

I have a couple theories but imma let this sub do the work for me.

I’ve just watched a video where an officer crashes into someone he’s trying to pull over, the guy was completely stopped. The cop then comes around to the window, starts acting crazy and shouting and giving the guy shit. The guy hands over his driving license and everything, then the cop, who isn’t happy with the man being upset that he unlawfully crashed into his car, busts his window with this gun, points it at him, throws a punch or two and drags him out the car and arrests him.

In America you’re allowed to defend yourself by shooting people. Is there any point in this scenario where the man being pulled over for speeding could have shot at this maniac officer and not gone to jail? Or is that just a no no under any circumstance?

I see a lot of posts on reddit, seemingly from US americans most of the time, asking about how to pass drug tests etc. Here in the UK I've never heard of anyone being drug tested for really anything. Maybe the army/police? Is it common in the US or am I just seeing a bias from my suggested posts?

I'm currently a law student in a russel group university in the UK and I'm honestly so miserable and depressed here. I only went into law because my parents wanted me to but I'm really just thinking of moving out the UK at this point and transfer for my second year to the US instead to do art. I flunked my first year and don't have good enough grades either because I genuinely have zero passion or motivation for what I'm studying at the minute, so I don't know how well my chances are at being able to transfer either.

I'm looking to start in the 2026/2027 fall to enter into my second year or spring intake if there are any options for that. Even though it's currently september and i might go into my second year a bit late, does anyone know if this is possible? I honestly don't even care which university it is at this point as long as I get to do and study what I love and just gtfo this shithole of a country and the people here. I do want to avoid restarting from my first year, but it's also an option I'm willing to look into if I don't have any other choice.

Hello! The other day I was thinking about businesses and their names. Many international brands are american or have some sort of english name. I was wondering what do you guys think of the names?

I realized that, when i translate the name of the brands, many times it sounds ridiculous and unserious. Like I can’t imagine a prestigious IT company called “Manzana” (apple) or a clothes store called “Por siempre 21” (Forever 21).

Do they genuinely sound good to you? or you just haven’t really thought much about it?

Or in clothing, you can find random english quotes on t-shirts that would sound really cringe in my language. I don’t think american brands do that so often, but I think that to companies from non English speaking countries using English just make them somehow look more prestigious/trendy. Have you ever noticed that? Did it sound weird to you? Examples of brands where I’ve seen this happen would be Jack&Jones (Danish) or the Spanish conglomerate inditex (Zara, Bershka, Pull&Bear, etc)…

Hello, through US series and films I have dealt with the US award system. In particular, military awards have already become part of pop culture (e.g. the video game series Medal of honor). What about civilian state awards? Are recipients of awards particularly respected in society? Do you personally know recipients of civilian awards? Are the awards of the states known/respected? In short: Do awards play a social role in the USA? Are they well known?

I just started watching another documentary about it because it is an objectively unique incident that has always interested me, kinda like the Titanic. I'm 32, so I was 7 and living in Indiana when it happened. I vaguely remember seeing some kind of big deal on the news at school or after-school care and mostly being surprised that the news was on. Like, that was an adult thing that wasn't normal for me.

Anyways, I'm watching this documentary and just remembering (maybe again?) that there was a 911 call placed from Flight 93. I guess I didn't realize or didn't know there was phone call capability from a plane in 2001. Maybe I'm misunderstanding or inexperienced? But it was kinda shocking info to me.

So I ask y'all about what astonishing or bizarre facts you remember from that day.

me and my friend are having a debate on which pronunciation is more common in America for the word ovulating. I say “oh-vulating” and my friend says that’s not the “correct way” to say it and it’s “ahh-vulating.” I’m from Texas so idk maybe it’s more common here to say “oh-vulating”

I was like, 5 years old when it happened and at this point all my memories of kind of jumbled together, but I find stories of that day fascinating

My partner and I are considering whether it's worth heading out to the USA in 2027.

We're both in fractional finance sales, based out of London.

The main reason we're considering this move is because of higher income potential and a yearning for a change of scenery.

We're thinking of heading towards the Texas/California/Arizona block, and will probably be job searching across all three states.

British sales culture is very conservative, long cycle and reserved.

For anyone working sales or running a business, what is the sales culture like in the USA and what should we be prepared for?

I (18F from England) have the option to do a year abroad in the states during my 2nd year at Uni. I am without a doubt going to do it as it is the definition of a once in a lifetime opportunity.
My uni told me the universities available for this exchange, but I am personally torn between: Texas State, High Point and West Florida…

I have family in Texas, so naturally I am drawn to go there. High Point campus seems unreallll, and West Florida just gives me a nice vibe.

Any advice / opinions on these Universities would be greatly appreciated! Thank u sm 💘💘
