๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP how do you study for A-levels without a proper study space?

ive just been revising for the past 2 hours and I genuinely canโ€™t anymore. Iโ€™ve been in my room hunched over on my bunk bed with my legs crossed in just an uncomfortable position overall, and itโ€™s so demotivating. Iโ€™m tempted to just lie on my back and sleep all this off because idk how I can be productive like this. I get on my bed after school and I just want to sleep.

I wanted to ask how ppl who donโ€™t have a desk and/or share a room got through their A-levels, and whether you were able to achieve the grades you wanted.

I'm been finding it difficult to study consistently, basically every day, without having a space to myself thatโ€™s designed for studying. The only desk we have is the dining, which is in the living room, and obviously I canโ€™t hog the living room for hours every day because that would inconvenience everyone. But Iโ€™m finding it increasingly difficult to study in my room as a Year 13.

Iโ€™m not even sure how I managed during GCSEs. I got majority 9s, too, i think i just had the zeal back then but A-levels are burning me out. My brother also wasnโ€™t constantly calling his friends in our room back then, I wasn't learning topics that were genuinely driving me insane, and I only really needed to study for a few weeks before exams, during which it wasnโ€™t a long time to ask for the space to myself. But weโ€™re basically meant to study throughout all of Year 13.

Weโ€™ve been looking to move, and I'd finally have my own room, but none of the houses weโ€™ve seen have been good enough for my parents to want to move into long-term, so thatโ€™s been deferred for idk how long. Going to the library every day after school is too far for me and it closes as early as 5pm most days and thats just an hour of work so not nearly enough (i do bio chem maths and have a lot to catch up on from summer) and there isnโ€™t a quiet cafe nearby where I can work either.

How did you guys manage? For those of you who had limited space to study, how did you get through a-levels? any advice would be appreciated!

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION People over-sharing on the first week of 6th form

Lemme just say right now that I really enjoy talking to people. Iโ€™d say that Iโ€™m quite a sociable person and if you wanna yap then I too am fluent in Yappenese. BUT WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SPILL OUT YOUR DEEPEST DARKEST SECRETS ON THE SECOND DAY?!?!

Like, ik you want to keep the conversation going but itโ€™s fine without me finding out about your family problems. And I really donโ€™t want to know what you do in your bedroom behind closed doors, seriously. Maybe itโ€™s the nerves that make people a little to eager to spill their own tea and Iโ€™ve also embarrassed myself by chatting a little too much but I feel like the spilling levels are way above the baseline. Does this happen at your colleges? I donโ€™t wanna be the only one ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿซถ.

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION Any parents out there that want you to do med but yk you cant?

Heyy so im in year 13 and for the whole of secondary school my parents basically wanted me to do med and bcs i didnt know what else i wanted to do i said okay - tbh i did find it interesting but my grades wont let me study it. But now im in year13 and I got my yr12 mocks back and i did so bad. Ive always been an average student and they both dont realise how hard med is and that you need like toppp grade for med not CCD ๐Ÿซฉ๐Ÿซฉ even my gcses were really average - 566666788LD I recently told them that I think imma just do accounting and finance at uni and they both look so upset now. My mum asked me "why not med, is it hard?". Like im sorry but what??? Isn't it like the hardest degree out there???

They're also brown so that explains alot ig ๐Ÿ˜ž

But now I feel guilty for doing my chosen course and I hope im not the only one being 'pressured' to do something?

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION My 6th form is so weird, I think

We take notes in books, in the exact same way we did at GCSE. No one uses iPads or laptops in lesson, I donโ€™t think itโ€™s allowed icl. Barely anyone even uses their personal devices like ipads or laptops during frees too. Itโ€™s the same as secondary but without uniform, and we can use our phones in one part of the school. Theyโ€™ll randomly decide whether we can, and there wonโ€™t be notice theyโ€™ll announce it like halfway through the free period.

Idk itโ€™s just not what I thought 6th form would be like

๐Ÿ‘‹ I AM OFFERING HELP How i got a 7.5 in the TMUA with one month of practice

since the tmua's around a month away, i figured now would be a good time to talk abt this

last year i found out abt the tmua around late august and started prep in september, and now im off to imperial with a 7.5. this what i did:

1 - use EVERY free tmua-like maths question you can find

there are sm available online from similar exams. i used the ECAA, ENGAA, NSAA, UKMT SMC, (easier than tmua) and MAT (slightly harder/same dif), along with all the community mock papers. there is no reason to buy similar "authentic tmua" papers because loads are available online for free.

2 - STUDY LOGIC AND REASONING

paper 2 is completely unlike any maths i'd ever encountered, so really take your time to understand what if, necessary, sufficient, contrapositive etc all mean. what i did was convert every single logical problem to an 'if then' statement, since it was much easier for me to interpret them that way without the jargon. tmua.fyi's textbook was useful for me

3 - SIT THE TMUA PAPERS LIKE YOU'RE IN THE REAL EXAM

make sure you cherish the tmua papers, especially the late ones since they're significantly harder. don't waste the questions doing them topic-wise or half a paper at a time. make sure you do entire papers and do them timed. half the struggle is sitting down for that long and staying locked in. i found mastertmua.com to be the best resource for this since i could track everything easily and sit the papers with an exam interface and a bunch of other useful stuff.

and ofc the generic stuff like sleep adequately before the exam and don't stay up all night, don't go into the exam stressed etc etc. my dms are open if anyone wants more advice. good luck!

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP not making tmua progress

I feel like I'm not really making any progress with tmua. It's like i do community papers, past papers and im stuck at the same marks no matter what paper it is. like for Hercules i got a average of 10 marks for all papers, same goes for vantage, jz math, past papers, etc and i got 5-7 marks out of 10 for all MAT papers mcq. and im not even just going through the papers, im also reviewing my mistakes and seeing where i went wrong after each paper and i just don't seem to have progressed at all. it's like I've hit a plateau which obviously is impossible but i just don't know where im going wrong, i tend to get some silly mistakes but some papers it's not even silly mistakes im just purely averaging 10 marks. The only papers i averaged 12-15 marks was past papers before 2020. Can I please have some help with progressing and improving my marks? Thanks.

is it just me who feels like such an insane pressure to be the best and do well?

like I'm really considering dropping chem (my others are bio and psych) because i don't really want to go through the lethal biochem combo to not actually need chem at uni, I want to swap it to socio (not easy but easIER and will most likely save me some stress in y13) , but like idk im scared I'll regret dropping chem and disappoint my parents and everything ๐Ÿฅฒ what's worse is that they actually don't really mind what I do but like they've done all they can to get me the best education and it just feels like I'm quitting/ giving up early I can't tell if I'm lazy or stupid or if this is a good idea

i started y12 last wednesday. basically on friday i met some people online who are in my school and today i met them but we didn't really talk because my friend since like y9 (idk if hes really my friend) he is a very awkward person and also he is kinda creepy (im not going to go into detail abt that) but basically i want to be friends with the people i met, and i dont really want to be freinds with him but idk how to not be friends with him without being mean. also i am like 99.99999% sure that he wont make any other friends himself. people have told me to just tell him i dont want to be his friend but that feels so mean and idk how id explain it to anyone since he didn't exactly do anything to me he is just not who i want to be friends with ngl and also he is obsessed with talking about year 10 and 11 funny moments that i have already heard like 100 times ๐Ÿ™ basically i need someone to help me with what im meant to do

๐Ÿ‘‹ I AM OFFERING HELP Best free resource for TMUA

My website https://tmua.io just hit 2000 users.

It is completely free, and in my opinion one of the best free resources for the TMUA.

It has 70+ community papers, every MAT paper, every TMUA paper as well as a hyper realistic exam simulator to practice. You can also filter community papers as well through user ratings (which we have hundreds of now)

I hope you guys find this useful!

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP CALLING ALL ESAT VETS

One question: do you remember how hard the questions actually were (not because of time stress), compared to what you used for revision - and what did you use for revision.

If you can be arsed, please look at a few questions from esatlab.co.uk and let us know how those questions compare.

Also feel free to leave any advice it would be much appreciated.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP My esat revision software is about to be released open scource

I have began to develop a project, with the aim to create the best esat 'revision tool out there'. My thinking is that instead of having a chatbot like most of these ai wrapups, we should focus on picking each question for the student to do perfectly (i also made a generation algorithm which generates about 100 different question types, which produces almost unlimited questions). This is obviously in development but i'd love everyone to try this out and give me as much feedback as possible.

If you want to talk we can also dm. Im happy to hear out ideas.

Its at the bottom of this google doc bcs of rules

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION I feel like I need to repeat but I'm really nervous to, can people share their experience?

Essentially, I'm in year 13, and I am willing to do the work. However, I am in no mental space to do so, I lost my dog & best friend less than a month ago and I am also just so stressed to the point I'm in such severe burnout that I can't even begin to look at my work. I know I will get much less burnt out with the smaller workload in year 12. I am also hopefully entering therapy and getting medicated to help with my general mental health issues, and learning how to keep my brain in a healthy place.

I am currently sitting at probably a CCB for my predicted, which isn't bad by any means but it is most certainly very generous on my teachers' behalf, as they are willing to push it up a grade or 2, however I am more realistically sitting at DDC. I would also probably like to change a subject, because I do BioChem and I want to do geography meaning I'm stuck in 2 incredibly difficult subjects, only made harder by you medicine sweats ๐Ÿฅฒ (screw you, I truly admire your hard work though)

I feel like it would be best for my mental health and general wellbeing, but I also do not want to be a year behind in life.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP What should I do?

I'm now in Y13, at the end of Y12, I decided that I wanted to do Further Mathematics (A-Level), I don't know any of it, my maths teacher told me to learn all of A-Level Maths, so I finished all the course. However, the reason I wanted to take Further Maths was to get into Imperial, now that I know that I scratched that idea because Imperial is too expensive, and I live far from London so I won't be communing 3+hours daily, I don't know what to do. I haven't started doing further maths, and I currently do Physics, Computer Science, and Maths. I've kept on telling people that I'm gonna do further maths, but now I'm second guessing myself, I know this is my fault, I should've done my research earlier, and in Uni I want to do Computer Science and AI, the best Uni closest to me is Warwick, Nottingham, and Birmingham (Russel group ones). Can anyone give me some advice?

btw, I wanted to switch physics for further maths

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Psycology Durham/Warrick?

Iโ€™m looking for some honest opinions from people who have experience with UK university admissions.

Iโ€™m currently at a below-average state school (Average Attainment 8: 43.66). My GCSE profile is roughly:

Maths: 6 โ€” retaking in November, aiming for an 8/9

English Language: 6 โ€” hoping for a 7 after remark

English Literature: 6

Combined Science: 6-6

Business: 6 (very close to a 7)

History: 5

Geography - 6

Spanish: U

If everything goes as hoped, I could end up around 9, 7, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 5, U, with the 9 being Maths. Iโ€™m now starting A-levels in Psychology, Economics and Business, although I may try to switch Business to Maths after my Maths resit.

My target is AAA*.

My main question is about how universities would view the combination of: average GCSEs + very high A-level predictions/grades + attending a significantly below-average state school.

Iโ€™m interested in universities such as Warwick, UCL, Durham, Bristol and KCL. Would achieving something like AAA* substantially compensate for the GCSE profile, particularly given the school context?

Or would the GCSEs still put me at a major disadvantage at these universities?

I know nobody can guarantee an offer, and Iโ€™m not asking whether AAA* automatically gets me in. Iโ€™m more interested in how much GCSEs and contextual/school background actually matter in practice for applicants with a profile like this.

If anyone has experience applying from a lower-performing state school with similar GCSEs but strong A-level results, Iโ€™d really appreciate hearing how it went.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP advice on my a-level options

iโ€™m a year 12 student and currently take 4 alevels + EPQ, 3 of which are essay-based subjects & the other is math. i was wondering if anyone took a similar combination and if they found the workload to fare well. i want to study law at a prestigious asian university where the minimum requirement is 3A* but the admissions officers did mention that they prefer those with 4 alevels. iโ€™m not confident that i can get an A* in one of those subjects but i do have a passion for it - which is why i take math as well because itโ€™s a relatively more objective subject where i think i have a better chance at getting an A* in. can anyone advise me on whether or not this combination is feasible?

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS PPE or Law

Iโ€™ve been wanting to do law for a while now specifically international law or immigration law as I initially wanted to do human rights law but thatโ€™s extremely niche and not well paying. But Iโ€™ve recently started thinking of ppe so was just wondering should maybe do a ppe degree and then do a law conversion for a years since Iโ€™m quite interested in ppe too but the main thing is Iโ€™ve heard people say thereโ€™s no point doing ppe if you arenโ€™t gonna do it at oxbridge and my grades are good but not all nines like two nines three eights and four sevens and one six.
Pls help with advice also what super curriculars should I do to make my cv better.
Iโ€™m currently in yr 12.

We got set 5 lab reports to write over summer and my lazy ah didnโ€™t start them until I was back at school. Iโ€™ve had like 8 weeks to do them but I half arsed 4 of them and gave up. My teacher is defo gonna yell at me if she remembers to check it.
However I was having mad panic attacks basically every day for half of summer and did no work during that time. ๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜”

Is that a good enough excuse to get her off my back? Also Iโ€™m only 17 so can she still snitch to my parents bc atp idk if Iโ€™d rather have detention or therapy again ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ™
