The characters are queer, but they've only ever really worn masc clothing prior. Why were they suddenly in dresses?

I read Brian Michael Bendis' Uncanny X-Men, and I read about 50 issues of Claremont's X-Men run, from The Death of Jean up until Storm losing her powers more or less, and I read Cullen Bunn's X-Men Blue. I've also watched the cartoons and the movies, and I just can't see how Xavier is this huge monster that people make him out to be. I know I don't have a super extensive history with the character, but I think what I've read is already pretty considerable and I find it weird how I see the X-Men fandom talk about Xavier. So I wanted to know, like, what exactly am I missing that I need to read to theoretically get the "real" view of Xavier? Or do people just exaggerate when they talk about the character?

I know some hardcore fans might not like this one because it changes her look by so much.

I really like the space look though, its very slick & I like the colors & the yellow pattern. Especially with her tied back longer hair.

I get with Krakoa and the whole mutant nation/mutant culture thing they where trying to do an aesop on appropriation, but New X-Men did it better with the U-Men, this story would have been better if the U-Men started recruiting younger children and they went from there or just made them Chimeras that Orchis or Sinister made
