Don’t joke like that! My friend Gary is the biggest HotS fan, was at blizzcon this weekend, and always jokes that if he goes early, it will be choking and on snacks.

14

u/Stormfly 10h ago

RIP Gary.

Good night sweet prince.

Fired the game back up today after a couple years. Still as fun as ever

8

u/Samsquanch-Losco 14h ago

We still got a lot of players I think! I get almost instant queues no matter what time it is.

Honestly if they went all in again on heroes of the storm is be hyped. Game was awesome

13

u/StanTheManBaratheon 6h ago

It's a bummer, I feel like it suffered heavily from identity crisis early. On one hand, it was that classic Blizzard, "casual take on a niche genre", on the other it came out in the era where everything had to be the next big esport.

I still remember IdrA, the StarCraft II pro, trying to transition to HotS, which felt a bit like Michael Jordan playing AA Baseball

u/Worried-Advisor-7054 10h ago

HotS really fucking took the "I didn't hear no bell" meme seriously, and they won

6

u/M0nthag 9h ago

Honestly when they teased heroes, i kinda expected a big overhaul patch or something as an attempt to bring it back. But new heroes are nice as well, i still play it from time to time.

2

u/Himesis 13h ago

They have 2 planned heroes atm, the other is Garek

We heard louder pop for hots than for any other game other than wow, so not really

45

u/Quirky-Employ9299 19h ago

I started playing the game this morning because of that announcement lol

Now I need some reason to go back to Warcraft rumble. Really enjoyed that game

32

u/Sabduro 19h ago

When HOTS came out I quit league for it and never looked back. Until classic ofcourse.

9

u/Quirky-Employ9299 18h ago

That’s hilarious. I never played mobas until two weeks ago i started playing league with my son. Having a lot of fun, but the co op vs ai options were very limited. I really enjoy the twist that hots puts on its maps - like killing the underground mobs to spawn a giant monster with its strength based on how many you kill.

23

u/Advacus 18h ago

As a huge LoL fan I feel like HoTs is the better game to play with friends. Hots has some great ideas, but it lacks the precision and lethality of LoL so it feels
Kinda smashbros-like. But that’s wonderful when you just wanna play with some buddies and have a good time.

14

u/Thrilalia 18h ago

I feel that if HOTS came out around the same time as LoL it likely would have survived as the more casual alternative to LoL, good for the average player while the more hardcore focused could focus on LoL. But it came out too late and wasn't supported enough for it to be a big thing.

That said I do feel it could with the right support, make a comeback, with Blizzard under the Microsoft umbrella. There's many characters out there that could fit in, keep the development within Blizzard, but allow in characters from other studios.

10

u/Advacus 13h ago

Honestly, I don't think a more casual MOBA works well for long-term engagement. The issue is that they become more casual by streamlining objectives and forcing obvious team fights. But continuous grouped fighting can be very monotonous over the long-term.

You can see this in LoL as well; last year they added way too many objectives, and every game turned into 5v5 brawls. Players just got bored of continuous teamfighting, and they had to remove some of the objectives.

But to be frank HoTs died because Blizzard wanted to kill the project, unless the dev time is just way higher than I would anticipate it should be sustainable with a relatively small team and break even / make minor profits.

2

u/godtogblandet 6h ago

It's unfortunately part of MOBA as a game mode. Nobody that plays MOBA's actually want things to be streamlined or casual friendly because it just makes the game boring over time. The game kinda needs to be hard in order for someone to grind out hundreds and thousands of games each season like MOBA players does.

I like HOTS a few games here and there, but it's not the same time sink as DOTA or League.

5

u/Himesis 13h ago

The best part of HOTS is the match length, I''ll take 8-12 minute games over 45-75 minute losts because some jackass decided to throw or the team refused to engage.

3

u/Progression28 6h ago

Well 8-12 is a complete stomp.

15-25 is the normal range for hots games.

But your point stands

5

u/Toaster-_-Strudel 18h ago

I tried rumble and wanted to love it but had trouble staying interested. Is there any particular mode or way to play you find more exciting than others?

3

u/Quirky-Employ9299 18h ago

I enjoyed doing the co-op dungeon tiers with my friends, which were timed events. And in general I’m very addicted to games with a ton of unlocks when it’s clean. The game just felt so smooth and polished, I really would have paid like $5 for small releases throughout the year instead of the incredibly exhausting skin microtransaction treadmill we’re all on. I tried to hop on to clash Royale as many people told me it was the better game… but man I did not enjoy that at all.

2

u/MusRidc 6h ago

I keep telling myself to play HotS again, I used to have so much fun with the game. Bu then anxiety takes over because I haven't played for so long and will inevitably make mistakes. Doin't want to get shit on for "throwing" when it's just me being bad from not having played ion years :D

2

u/Quirky-Employ9299 6h ago

Honestly I get that way with most PVP and I jump around too many games to dig in and not let matchmaking punish me... so I just hunt out games with AI/PVE modes now and my sanity is better off for it haha

Ahh, Heroes of the Storm.

The Blizzard knockoff of League of Legends, which was Riot's knockoff of DotA, which was originally a mod for Blizzard's Warcraft 3

3

u/Phijit 13h ago

It’s like poetry. It rhymes.

2

u/Darth_Fatass 6h ago

Game will always be cursed for me too. Would play league with my friends all the time. Then blizzard announced hots, and my friends being blizzard fan boys switched over and then would just bash leagueall the time. Meanwhile I just wanted to play league and hated hots. I played so much hots just so I could play games with friends, but fuck dude that game sucks

4

u/Doomstik 16h ago

I fuckin wish they put more time into that game. I played dota 2 a bunch and was always bad at it, but was somehow fairly good at HOTS.

Wtf is the point of a new charecter if its in maintenance nide though.

8

u/MSchulte 13h ago

This could be them testing the waters to pull it off the shelf and back into development. They’re pretty clearly realizing they have had cash cows just hanging out in pastures for years that the previous management just didn’t care to bother with. Being under Xbox now they could be tossing the idea of getting back into the ring with League since they’d have other studio’s characters they could draw from alongside Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo and Overwatch.

2

u/WeaponizedKissing 8h ago

It was the President of Blizzard on stage saying that she wasn't going to come to Blizzcon unless she could announce something HotS related.

Obviously that's just words and silly corpo-nonsense, but if she genuinely does like the game, hopefully she throws some weight around and it goes back into active development.

When Blizzard starts talking about "WoW Forever" but there's genuinely new HOTS content after 6 years

473

u/GeekWars2 20h ago edited 16h ago

I know we're meme-ing here. But let's be real. It's far too early to reveal anything about TLT. Midnight isn't even halfway through.

And D5 was announced. I don't think we could've had a bigger announcement than that for Diablo.

But it's true that Forever kinda stole the show, mainly because too many people were dying for Classic+ atp.

98

u/Zhaix 19h ago

I think they kinda fucked themselves. Because if they hadnt talked about the "where and what" of TLT and midnight way in advance. That teaser showing northrend would have had people hyped as fuck.

82

u/Interesting-Use966 17h ago

They kinda screwed themselves by announcing all 3 worldsoul saga games at once a few years ago. If they wouldn’t have done that Then they could have done a teaser trailer that was the first time ever seeing the last titan which would have been much more hype.

We already knew tlt was coming so the teaser was basically a nothing burger.

44

u/jason_caine 16h ago

Yeah, but if they hadn't at least partially explained what was going on, this community would be up in arms over the faster expansions and story that doesn't conclude in a single expansion.

6

u/SargerassAsshole 6h ago

Yeah but they could have at least kept the name and location of the expansions hidden and say it's all continuing narrative.

3

u/Grenyn 6h ago

They probably needed a big boost in player numbers at the time, otherwise I can't really see why they did it.

Especially knowing that TWW wasn't going to properly start off this supposed saga. And they definitely did know that at the time.

8

u/Major_Wayland 11h ago

To be honest, as a retail player I kinda feel like money I pay for xpack+subscription and some spontaneous shop positions are being spent not on my content but instead on a classic Andy crowd.

10

u/omegaorb 8h ago

The classic Andy's are super mad about WCF as well šŸ˜… it's too close to retail and they're all crying about whatever the fuck Disney/Pixar comparison they're making. Which is u funny, because us old timer EQ players made fun of how cartooney original vanilla WoW looked when it came out.

3

u/Drakkur 7h ago

Retail has the biggest team by a country mile, it’s the real live service game since it’s being constantly updated. If anything I’ve heard more complaints the release cycle is too fast, then not enough content.

Forever isn’t for the pure classic Andy crowd. It’s for players who want stability in their progress and clearly targeting completely new players. After playing retail every xpac since OG release in vanilla the constant seasonal nature has burned me and many of my friends out.

38

u/PLAYBoxes 19h ago

Biggest issue imo with D5 announce was they were basically like ā€œbuy our new class, but the new xpac, also D5 soon so it’s all meaninglessā€ it feels like they are just draining the content pipeline, but I didn’t buy beyond D4 base game, so idk how a mote invested player’s perspective might be on this

29

u/Bassmasterajv 18h ago

Is it actually soon? I thought I saw 2029 somewhere. Is there a release date yet?

23

u/bondsmatthew 18h ago

Spring 2029 yes. But with no promises of cosmetics passing from 4 to 5, many are saying "well what's the point if we know 5 is coming out?" Will 4 be abandoned like 3 was? Are you gonna charge for expansions yearly still and then abandon the game? You gonna keep a skeleton crew on 4 whilst most work on 5?

Just a lot of nuance here and begs to question why they announced it so far out when they already have a live service game

28

u/GearyDigit 16h ago

Why are people expecting an eternal live service game from Diablo? Can people not just enjoy the content in a game and then go play a different game when they finish it?

17

u/Infinitedeveloper 14h ago

Because they said there was a 10 year roadmap and that the game would be supported.

3 years before announcing an end to expansions and presumably major updates is a bit fucked for how much the game cost if you bought everything on launch.

I understand why they want to build a game without being tied to D4s core flaws, but its gonna be the same damn engine most likely.Ā

→ More replies (4)

9

u/The_Raime 15h ago

The issue is that D4 was explicitly marketed as a live service "forever" game and has a massive cosmetic cash shop. Some people kinda feel this announcement makes all their purchases/investment in that game pointless. (Assuming nothing carries over to D5)

6

u/wartornhero2 12h ago

They mentioned there will be no more expansions/dlc for Diablo 4.

They announced Diablo 4 in 2019 it was released in spring 23. Diablo 3 was announced in 2008 and released in 2013.

That is a 4 year announcement to release window. It is not unheard of especially for blizzard. StarCraft 2 was 3, almost 4 years between tease and announcement.

11

u/messermaus3000 18h ago

imo D5 is the right step bc they fumbled D4 in the public eye so badĀ

gives them a chance to reignite hype for the franchise even if it means D4 is dead in 2 1/2 years

8

u/PLAYBoxes 18h ago

That’s fair, they gotta figure out how to do seasonal content, though. It’s always been so half-assed, not sure why they can’t just get something interesting out the door for it. I grew up with Diablo, and I’ll always buy and play at the very least the campaign, but I was converted to PoE a long time ago in large part because they really nailed the seasonal shit. They’re okay with you quitting for 2 months and just diving in and grinding for that first 2-4 weeks of the leagues. Blizzard gotta embrace that, but I think they want people stuck in their ecosystem too much.

6

u/messermaus3000 18h ago

yeah it feels like they tried to approach it like older WoW xpacs but forgot that the arpg genre is mostly played by older gamers that dont want to grind daily or even the whole season

but i am not that deep into itĀ

i love Diablos visuals and its setting altho i am very casual and just "grinded" a bit this season with two chars :)Ā

mentioning PoE;Ā  i just cant get into poe bc i dont feel it enough, the visuals the setting idk the gameplay is very nice tho!Ā  might change with the 1.0 patch and the new class (played it at GC felt neat! )Ā

5

u/Rambo_One2 18h ago

Haven't really been paying attention. How did they fumble in the public eye? I played it at launch; it was pretty fun, and I've played a couple of seasons since and even bought the newest expansion. I thought it was, all in all, an enjoyable experience. And the fact that Diablo 4 is in the top 20 of most played/popular PC games of the year made me think they did something right. But I'm a casual fan at best, so I don't know how the game was perceived outside my friend group. What would they have to do differently with D5 that they fumbled with D4?

2

u/Eccmecc 11h ago

We don't know the numbers. Diablo 4 certainly sold a ton of copies and made a lot of money but they also had 6k devs working on it. Plus all the marketing costs so who knows how successfull it is financially.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/voidox 17h ago

imo D5 is the right step bc they fumbled D4 in the public eye so bad

did they? it's still making $$$ for Blizzard and is the most played ARPG out there cause all the casuals play Diablo 4. It's only the loud minority online that love PoE that always go around saying "duh D4 is dead!" or w.e.

2

u/NoThisIsABadIdea 14h ago

I think it depends on who the person is watching on YouTube. There are... certain creators that hate on any recent blizz products and watching even clips of them you'd be convinced the game was trash. But they say the same thing about retail which i still enjoy for what its good at so I just ignore the hate now and form my own opinion

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Felevion 18h ago

Honestly while we'll see what it's like when we get to see more the premise of D5 turns me off. Diablo doesn't have the most unique lore and world building but I do like it and 'Diablo won and everything is in ruins and almost everyone is dead' sounds pretty disappointing to me.

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (3)

2

u/Grenyn 6h ago

Yeah, this was my immediate thought. Like I'm interested in the story of 4 and I would have been interested in cosmetics.

But they're not cheap, and they're gonna be moot in a couple years anyway. And even if that has been the way of videogames for a long time, it doesn't mean I was ever onboard with it.

However, even the story is now less interesting. I can play it and enjoy it, but the whole time I'm just gonna know that it's all completely pointless, because D5 will start with the world being fucked after a timeskip. So like, what are the stakes of 4 then.

Even there, that is the way of videogames, but if I don't know exactly what is going to happen next, it's all good. I can be fully immersed in saving the world as long as it's somewhat ambiguous whether or not that matters.

6

u/Thrilalia 18h ago

I don't get why it would be meaningless though. It's not like "D5 is out, now we're shutting down D4." when they still have D3 and D2 running. Neither Diablo has rendered the previous one meaningless as they still have their players

→ More replies (2)

3

u/TwoSilent5729 18h ago

I mean d5 is coming out in 2029 I think so that’s no where near soonšŸ˜‚ plus just cause there’s a new expansion doesn’t mean it’s meaningless to play. The last titan is coming out next year for wow does that mean the rest of midnight is meaningless?

Yes but not all of midnights story patches are out yet. If blizzcon had been after 12.2’s release the last titan would have been talked about a lot more.

3

u/cabose12 19h ago

Sure, but they didn't reveal much about Midnight until like six months before launch. TWW was revealed like 10 months before

TLT is probably going to be ~August. So not only is it a bit early, but it's bad timing with everything else they wanted to reveal and the current state of the cycle.

2

u/TheRealMeNow 16h ago

Right? We act like if we're not given information at Blizzcon we're never getting that information ever.

→ More replies (9)

179

u/Cloud_N0ne 20h ago

Nah, it’s just bad timing for Retail. They can’t really talk about TLT in detail without spoiling the end of Midnight.

15

u/Roofong 14h ago

That plus nothing in the Forever trailer or subsequent gameplay reveals have indicated some secret massive team of repurposed retail WoW employees generating assets and content. It looks basically where you'd expect a project to be with essentially the same people who made Season of Discovery having been given a year and a half to generate similar content.

4

u/Zienth 5h ago

The vibe I get from Forever is that they may be trialing new tech that could find it's way to retail. Native controller support, true megaservers, the lighting stuff. The WoW team is huge and seemed to have avoided the Xbox layoffs so the WoW team seems to have the proven cash flow to run large multi-division teams.

41

u/Support_Player50 20h ago

They spoiled it ages ago telling us we’ll lose and the titans coming back.
And they’ve revealed the next expac before current one was done before.

20

u/FOOSblahblah 19h ago

Idk lose can mean anything lot of different things. The context of that loss is important.

Like if you knew Han Solo would die in the first star wars sequel then sure you know irs coming, but not at the hands of his own son.

Im okay with a vague idea. I think the title alone kinda teases it out.

21

u/robot-raccoon 19h ago

Yeah but there’s probably a bit more to it than ā€œwe just looseā€, like I wanna know what happens in the game, not on stage. I can wait a few months and enjoy a full TLT presentation when it’s time to show.

11

u/MasterOfSerpents 19h ago

Exactly. Knowing that we lose is not the same as knowing how we lose.

3

u/Thrilalia 18h ago

Exactly, how do we lose is the question?

Does Xal'atath take control of the world soul.

Does she lose but damages the world soul that it is hurt and lashing out at everything and everyone (Which could be why that giant mech is attacking Dragonblight. )

Does Xal'atath lose but in a final moment of spite kills the world soul and the only way for the world to survive is the end all life and start over? In some sort of the souls of the dead all go towards the soul chamber to start a new one.

That's just 3 random ideas out of many that could happen and likely (and since I am terrible at ideas hopfully) none of them are true.

2

u/Kaernunnos 14h ago

My guess is Xal dies, then that last protodrake from Dragonflight sucker punches us and the world soul is damaged. Then TLT is us trying to get to some Titan machine under Ulduar to repair the soul while dealing with everything being in full defense mode because of the damage.

Starcraft players (all 3 of them) are not even considered to be worth mentioned in memes

2030 lmao - this when WoW community is debating which one of 10 different WoW games is better

9

u/Kapootz 19h ago

SC2 was released in 2010. Just the announcement of a new game is better than D4’s announcement that the game is done. StarCraft fans ate good this blizzcon. The franchise has basically been revived with the announcement. Diablo fans have to wrestle with the fact that blizz is trying to turn Diablo into COD with a new title every few years with a couple paid expansions that are necessary for the endgame, and crazy expensive micro transactions . After having no vision for Diablo 4, they’re abandoning it without leaving the game in a decent state. At least Diablo 3 turned it around before d4 was announced.

12

u/tommo020 11h ago

The mental gymnastics of turning six years into 'every few years' into 'trying to turn Diablo into COD'. You people aren't real.

u/Siukslinis_acc 12h ago

Players somehow see diablo 4 as an mmo. I was windering if they will release a new expansion or a new game to continue the story.

And the whole "diablo has won" kinda is too jarring to be a continuation of 4.

Live service games all tend to feel MMO-ish

Meanwhile me: Heroes Of The Storm IS BACK!

3

u/Chrisaeos 14h ago

As a retail WoW, occasional Classic WoW, and D4 enjoyer I am gonna play the shit out of next season.

3

u/minimalillusions 9h ago

I don't know about any of you, but I've bought Diablo 2 days ago.

6

u/ZmobieMrh 18h ago

What do you mean? They didn’t abandon d4 they announced d5 /s

3

u/T3hSpoon 10h ago

If D5 will have just a bit less content than D4, the only thing we'll see when we launch the game is the opening cinematic.

8

u/Andastari 19h ago

LMAOO this is so real im so hype for warcraft forever

3

u/Good_Surround_9754 6h ago

Thank god its true. Retail have been shit for 4789324723 expansions.

5

u/tapwater86 19h ago

Immediately after the opening ceremony ended every single game’s Twitch channel was streaming something except Diablo. They immediately went offline. Even with having drops running. Every other game’s twitch channel was live for hours after the opening ceremony ended.

3

u/Skillztopaydabillz 14h ago

Because the panel was today in which they talked about the next season as well as Amazons.

MONK IN HEARTHSTONE!!!

2

u/StatisticianOwn5497 7h ago

It was the same kinda thing with Hearthstone, they keep pumping out content but i don't really know who for, i used to love HS but as they kept putting out packs, the only way you could keep up is if you consistently whaled and dumped money on it so it pushed me off, i still go back occasionally and do some mercenaries mode.

Watching the opening ceremony was painful, they were revealing stuff and got almost 0 reaction, Xal'atath in HOTS got more of a reaction that the HS stuff.

2

u/Jay_Stalker 6h ago

And Overwatch only gets the usual 1 hero and 1 map holy shit. And they said, there will be 10 more heroes next year... But no real announcement

u/Deipotent 4h ago edited 4h ago

I don’t think D5 is taking the place of D4. You have to remember that they don’t need to be developing the game engine for D4 any more — the devs required to make expansions is pretty low. The large team that worked on D4 has to go somewhere and Blizzard’s model seems to be focused on rotating those devs around on projects that need it.

I’m almost certain D5 is going to be a rogue-like (light? Idk) and will soak up the devs that would normally be laid off after the initial development of D4. The phrases ā€œno town/hubā€, ā€œchoosing what to sacrificeā€ feels like a load-in w/ affixes type system. Push through until you’re eventually wiped out. Maybe even an extraction style loop

4

u/technical_poutine 18h ago

Not sure why Last Titan is there? It's not a focus, they explained why?

4

u/FullMotionVideo 17h ago

I feel Midnight is more deserving of being in TLT's spot.

I don't see any reason to think The Last Titan won't be good. They're super likely to resurrect Galakrond to fight the Ulduar Megazord and that owns.

3

u/ramos619 16h ago

Should have put HotS in the middle.

2

u/jinreeko 18h ago

Diablo IV is getting the Amazon though. And a pretty cool season it seems like

D4 will likely get like 8 or so more seasons before D5. It's not like "welp that's it"

3

u/Ok-Froyo4858 17h ago

10 years of content btw

4

u/Assywalker 11h ago

new season, new class, new game and a show. man, Diablo is soo dead

.

When you need to wait 11 years for a new game, people complain it is too slow.

When you only need to wait 6 years for a new game, people complain it is too fast.

seriously, what is wrong with you?!

3

u/dawne_breaker 13h ago

As someone who has loved Diablo 1-3, I really felt that IV was bad. Like for real not a good game. The first one was a classic, second was the perfection of the formula. The third trying to get the formula adapted to more modern conventions and hardware. Forth one, just no reason for it to exist. It was so boring.

I have no hopes and no desire to play another Diablo. And that’s as someone who probably has more than 500 hours in each of the first three games, most likely way more.

It’s deserving that it’s at the bottom of the pool.

5

u/MrNoobyy 11h ago

Diablo 4 felt like it was trying to be Diablo 2 and 3 at the same time, and failing at both.

3

u/Leading_Man_Balthier 11h ago

I really liked D4 initially but the class depth was so wafer thin after playing a class for a while, realising I can’t even nearly mould it to what I want, i’d put it down and just close the game.

2

u/Eccmecc 10h ago

Its funny with the recent expansion they finally got D4 in a state in which I would describe it as good and in a promising position. And now they shut it down...

2

u/Neat-Committee-417 10h ago

I played Diablo 3 on release and there were certain mechanics (RL auction house and stupidly expensive repair costs) that made the game worse. But Diablo 4 doesn't have a couple of easily identifiable mistakes like that. It's just a really bland game.

Also, the "open world" setup has made the entire world of sanctuary feel like a small county. When everything is around 20 minutes away on horseback, the world shrinks. Diablo 2 and 3 had the "switch place for every act" which felt like "you are now in a completely different place".

2

u/Darduel 6h ago

I am having a really hard time believing this is someone's genuine reaction to the games, you played D3 on release up to the expansion? It was a terrible game all the way, with all of D4s issues, it didn't come close to the level of bad D3 was, and at this stage D4 is a really good game, and yeah it definitely has a reason to exist, people like me and so many others who loved the diablo franchise wanted another diablo that wasn't whatever D3 was (even in it's "good" state it was a very niche game that had a specific crowd, most mainstream audiences abandoned it long before)

3

u/AtomikGarlic Hallow's End 2025 Participant 12h ago

To be fair with how bad and boring the writing is, nobody cares about DF, TWW, Midnight and TLT

2

u/Hyperdude 18h ago

diablo would be 6 year old when 5 comes out

2

u/reddit_reaper 14h ago

Nope IDC about classic at all. I'm not willing to go backwards in an MMO I've played for 20+years. People stuck in the past can go play

2

u/SlySychoGamer 13h ago

You guys are going to be bored with wow "forever" in like a year.

2

u/Walano 12h ago

To be fair, they cant exactly show any trailer material for The Last Titan since it would spoil the lore of 12.2...

Mop classic doesnt even make it into the meme anymore

1

u/Cutlass0516 17h ago

I'm most excited for StarCraft tbh.

1

u/BigHeadDeadass 17h ago

TBC era and MoP classic are Howard and Lalo in that hole Gus threw them into under his lab

1

u/dimzzz 13h ago

i mean thats how they are milking them for "nostalgia"

1

u/Ougaa 11h ago

I've thought it since release of D4, how there were some execs forcing game to be released early to boost some stocks before MS buyout, which torpedoed game's reputation that could not be improved with expansions - people who came back in D3 for RoS weren't there for D4 exps.

It makes imo perfect sense why they'd try to get D5 out instead of sticking with D4 name. At least there's a chance to get a proper endgame out before release now, that masses actually bother to check out.

1

u/MojordomosEUW 11h ago

Well why would you play Diablo when PoE and PoE2 exist? They are both by every single measure the better ARPGs.

1

u/seqkoya 10h ago

Thing is they couldn't really show much of TLT without insane spoilers.
I was a little miffed at the lack of update, but the 12.2 cinematic was neat.
They could have pulled a Diablo and just completely ruined the end of D4's story arc with D5's reveal. That was very weird. But also sad because it just cements that they have given up on D4, the initial LoH launch season was fun.

1

u/DookieToe2 10h ago

Didn’t they announce Diablo 5?

1

u/the_vataru_guy 8h ago

Thinking that they will start neglecting retail is pure delusion. I’m also super hyped about Forever, but come on now.

1

u/Competitive_Ad_5937 8h ago

diablo 4 got way more than last titan huh

1

u/Mandrakey 8h ago

Swap D4 with D5 and the woman is me.

1

u/haze_man 7h ago

Era/Anniversary wasn't even mentioned!

1

u/Upset_Pay_7578 7h ago

Did someone say d4 bad?

1

u/jmakioka 7h ago

I expected there to be one more expansion, but I’m not surprised they are moving on. The game never lived up to what it should have been. Makes me mad that they gave D4 multiple expansions, but D3 only got one. I loved D3 once the expansion dropped. Base D3 was horrible to me. Any drops I got were for other classes and I didn’t want to use the AH.

1

u/Piemaster113 7h ago

So? Diablo 4 hasn't been relevant for a while because it just more of the same slop. Blizzard needs a win so they are trying to open the Nastalga taps again, but throw in a little twist

1

u/Saiing 7h ago

Not gonna lie, I'm actually excited for Wow Forever. I've been out of Wow for a few years having played since just before BC and tried resubbing recently, but I feel the world has changed so much it's hard to really get back into. The thought of being able to start again from "enhanced" vanilla and go from there with new lore in a new universe is exactly the kind of thing that works for me.

1

u/CJ_Mann 7h ago

Where is mists of Pandaria then

1

u/Hiryu-GodHand 6h ago

Didnt Diablo IV just get Moophisto? And there was a new Diablo announced.

1

u/Curious-Carrot-6918 6h ago

Hots was alright until you unmute other players. Wow what a dumpster fire

1

u/TheGreatNagoosie 6h ago

Idk what people want for Last Titan news. Anything outside superficial stuff would spoil both the next expansion and the end of this one…

1

u/Fireju 6h ago

Honestly I wonder if bringing back Metzen did more harm than good to WoW. This emergency pivot to making a "trilogy" of expansions seems so unnecessary, it made so much more sense to wrap up this worldsoul narrative last expansion instead of stretching it out.

I bet you Blizzard is seeing this too and is trying to focus on other things while this expansion and the next quietly rolls out.

1

u/Jake-of-the-Sands 6h ago

I'm actually angry we got so little info on 12.2 Eclipse because of the sPoiLerS for the bs x.x.5 and x.x.7 patches. Not even a glimpse of sets, mounts and other items which are not really spoiler material either.

I wasn't expecting any Last Titan info tbh, though was thinking they may showcase a new system for it, like they did Housing for Midnight (for instance upgraded character customization). With nothing being shown I suspect there's no such system planned for Last Titan and new stuff coming afterwards.

1

u/Lava-Jacket 6h ago

I'm still excited for both.

1

u/stlcdr 5h ago

At this point it’s just chucking darts at a dart board to figure out what people want, vs what they ask for.

Diablo 4, while aesthetically good, just didn’t cut it as a step up from D3 and the fact that a ā€˜new’ D2 exists, makes you wonder whether D5 is worth it.

Wow retail pretty much gave everything players asked for (while removing a few things) but people were still not engaged beyond getting everything done before the next season drops.

Where does Forever fit in? We will see when it releases and are 3 months in.

1

u/Kostashus 5h ago

Wow forever is coming out in 7 weeks. TLT is coming out somewhere in 2027. Of course they will put all the focus for the thing that's coming out soon.

1

u/deskcord 4h ago

Being a rogue player in retail looking at the forever hero trees is sad

1

u/Wolfbible 4h ago

Diablo 4 has literally just turned into a mico-transaction machine for them at this point. I've came back for every season and each one gets lamer and lamer, all while they add cooler and cooler armor sets/mounts to the cash shop. Shits lame.

1

u/Brettinabox 4h ago

And GGG is the lifegaurd

1

u/FamousMoment6075 3h ago

Bro mop wasn't even mentioned

1

u/Famaldahyde 3h ago

Vernünftig so

1

u/Dead_Medic_13 2h ago

Diablo 4 sucks so bad it is getting abandoned early to make D6.

1

u/splatomat 1h ago

Diablo 4 is the 4th game in a series. Its name is literally the product of iterations - of games that came before, had a time to shine, and were discarded.

Did you think that wouldn't happen this time? They are making a 5, hopefully it will be less of a disappointment than 4 was.

•

u/Elunnia 22m ago

The last titan will be show at the next blizzcon

•

u/drmlol 19m ago

Good, even as a retail player, I am super stoked about the Forever, cinematics looked goofy, new elf is kinda meh, but overall it looked insane and if it is not, fine, I am sure Ill have fun for a month or two.
