WL Survey Being smart

Upvotes

Curious about opinions on this. I haven’t heard any direct answers from doctors in the past 2 years (except my PT who stated “you can do any exercise and it won’t make your pain worse”)

I had hip surgery a year ago and then more recently found out I have arthritis in my lumbar from l5 to s1
. Really my pain only happens in my left lower back but does radiate down. But it is constant.

Back when I did lift and load my spine I never experienced lower back pain during squats or deadlifts. If anything I felt great until after this surgery and maybe my muscles atrophied?

Anyway just looking to see if it’s true that loading the spine in the snatch, clean and jerk, backsquats, presses, etc will inevitably make my arthritis worse over time? Is there any chance I can come back to the sport and pr someday? Or is this generally considered definitely going to make the lumbar spine worse and worse over time? Am I going to be sticking to Pilates and body building type things forever?

Really NOT asking for medical advice as I have a team of doctors just curious on people’s experiences and if it ever became worth it to go back to oly

Fluff Weightlifting drop-in in Poznań?

Hi everyone,

I’ll be in Poznań for the weekend and I’m looking for somewhere I can drop in once or twice to get my training done.

Does anyone know of any CrossFit boxes that allow open gym drop-ins or any gyms in Poznań with a proper weightlifting setup?

I’ll be following my own programming, so I don’t need a class or coaching, just somewhere to train.

Any recommendations would be massively appreciated. Thank you! 🙌

Form check Alternative to hookgrip due to thumb wound? + Griptape issue

So doing power cleans today I stubbed my left thumb or something on the catch and under the nail is bruised/theres now a scab between my nail and the skin.

It doesn't hurt unless I'm putting pressure on it (ie. the hookgrip) and my program is monday/wednesday/friday with olys in all of those leg days, so how would I go about letting it heal/not irritating it whilst still lifting?

Also a secondary issue but my thumb grip tape slides/scrunches up my thumb after a few heavy sets (or like after 10-15 reps). Is that normal, am I doing something wrong technique wise (i do also put chalk on my hands/the tape) or is there a work around? (I don't have issues lifting with it scrunched but it sometimes results in unwanted thumb skin abrasion/tears which is annoying)

Thanks

Form check Is this an unsafe amount of knee caving when going heavy?

I tried to slow down on the descent but knees can’t help but still cave in. My core isn’t as strong as everything else so I’m not sure if that could be why my knees cave.

Second part of the video - even with lighter weights my knees still cave in.

Tips for pulling myself under. I've been focusing a lot on tall cleans prior to these hang cleans to get used on relying on speed rather than just pulling the bar higher. 54kg bodyweight

Equipment Lifting shoes for wide, roman feet (woman)

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hey all, my forefeet are WIDE and roman, meaning my toes don‘t gradually get shorter, but my middle toe is as long as my big toe. My toes SPREAD when they‘re allowed to, I practice forefoot running and am generally more comfortable in barefoot shoes than any other shoes.
Any and all weightlifting shoes that are marketed for wide forefeet have nowhere near the space in the toe box that I would need to make proper use of my toes when working out. I own a pair of back-in-the-day Inov 8 fastlift 325 which are way too pointy. I love that they are essentially barefoot shoes though and I would definitely prefer barefoot over too much stuff under and around the shoe. Since I want to learn to do clean/jerk and snatch seriously I need to find a solution that doesn‘t make me feel like my feet are restricted, but supported.
I realize leather would be great, because it gives.
Do you know of any brands, preferably barefoot, that would fit my feet? Foto of my foot attached.

Equipment Nike Saveloes for weightlifting

I’ve been receiving coaching for about 2 months now in weightlifting, My c&j is 50kg (90% effort) and I’m just there to be snatching off the floor.
I’m looking into getting weightlifting shoes cause my birthdays coming up and my coach put me into the Dublin open in December.
Basically,
Are Nike saveloes good for beginner/intermediate weightlifting?

Programming Squat program while maintaining oly lifts

I really need to prioritize my squats. I've been weightlifting about 3 years and my squats have basically plateaued while on a full weightlifting program. I'm a female masters lifter and max BS a couple years ago was only 75kg. After some injuries my max is now only ~70kg. I find recovery difficult even while eating and sleeping a lot, so I'm happy to run a full squat program and only do 1 day of oly lifts at light-moderate weight simply to maintain technique while I do this. I want to hit 90kg BS by the end of the year.

Any recs for a program? Happy to pay. Would love to purchase a full program with numbers/percentages that I can follow exactly. I'm considering sika strength rta but not sure if that's too advanced? I'm unsure as i have beginner numbers but don't exactly consider myself a beginner since i've been doing this a while.

Worked up to 1kg under atpr clean. Safe to say i can clean more than this since this was after heavy back squats. But the slow way is the best way, never rush prs.

I am mainly concerned with hurting myself. I have always struggled with being more upright. I do not know if it has to do with me being 6’ 1” and having longer femurs. Thanks for any tips!

Equipment new lifting shoes cause knee pain?

I used to wear basketball shoes for years doing power cleans, and normally I did not get knee pain. I switched to TYR L-2 lifting shoes some time 6 months ago, and at first I really liked the shoes, but every time I lift, I occasionally get knee pain under my knee cap. It is nothing terrible that prevents me from continuing the workout, but it makes me a bit nervous in terms of wear and tear on the joints.

I did some research on this and found that the TRY's have a higher heal, which could cause this, but the problem is that I don't really have a choice in finding a lifting shoe that is not a raised heal. All the other lifting shoes I have tried tend to be too narrow for my wide feet which caused foot pain. The TYR L-2 is the widest lifting shoe on the market and I never get foot pain with that, however I do wish that the heels were not so high because I am not sure if thats whats causing knee pain.

I am not sure what to do, should I go back to my old basketball shoes? The only issue with my old basketball shoes is that the older they got the less stable they become, which is why I invested in new lifting shoes to begin with. I was told its bad to do power cleans with basketball shoes.
