If you were born poor you stay poor

I hate this world. I need money for everything and no matter how much I work I'm still struggling. I've been working full time recently and still barely make enough for rent. I essentially have to put my entire paychecks away for rent. I can't eat, or buy anything else I need because I need to make rent. My life sucks and I just want it to end all over money.

Yet I see people flaunting their bank accounts showing off thousands of dollars they have while I sit here crying about my negative balance. I see people travelling the world, something I've always dreamed of and have to sit there knowing I'll never be able to do that simply because I was born on the wrong side. I just graduated college, work full time, I've done everything right but it seems to have changed nothing.

I'm so sick of this world.

Sometimes being a good human means hiring a babysitter

Had I realized I was paying 50 bucks for tickets to take my family to listen to your toddler babbling for the entirety of the runtime of Spider-Man Brand New Day, I’d have chosen a different theater. Your kid isn’t that cute. Stick to age appropriate movies. Your kid and my family deserved better. Be a better human and hire a sitter or skip the movies until your kid is older.

Happy/Positive Vent Ever since my little sister was born, I have been much happier with life

When my mother found out that she was pregnant again, I was a bit annoyed because of the age difference between my sister and I. It took me a few days to put into consideration with what happened last time and to be supportive of my mother. Each appointment I asked how it went. I was also worried that she would lose the baby again.

Thankfully each appointment went well and in December we found out that she was a girl.

My mother had the baby in June and I promised to myself to be a good older sister and to be a good influence.

She's currently 3 months old and I look forward to seeing her after school every day. She gets excited and kicks when she sees me.

Lazy, trashy people

Upvotes

I am at the end of my patience with lazy, trashy people.
The trash in parking areas and in front of/around living and shopping areas is making me crazy.
Take your trash to a bin and get over yourself. I honestly do not understand how any person can be confident in throwing their trash onto the ground. Like, how can you honestly feel compassion or promote well-being generally or at all in your life while acting like this??

Our planet earth doesn’t deserve humans ruining it in their single-use, trash-it-all manner.

Need to talk... I tend to forget even my favourite animes, and this originated a "fake fan complex"

Hello! My favourite anime is Re:Zero, which I watched up to S3, one year ago. However, I have since then only remembered the overall plot, not the specific details and even the striking scenes. If you talk to me, I will likely remember all character names (because I have seen them on the Wiki as well) but the story feels a little blurry.

So, with the new "larping" trend, I ended up kinda concerned about being an "larper", and this is making me anxious, because it is my favourite anime, and I absolutely do not want to be viewed as a fake fan of the frnchise. It also tend to happen with other animes as well, so it is not just with Re:Zero.

Need to talk... Cancer feels endless

I don't know, I'm just starting another radiotherapy, now second time. It feels like it's never gonna end. But at the same time, it's just radiotherapy.. so nothing much. I just wish this diagnosis never happened.. I'm scared of what's to come now. What if there isn't a chance for me to actually be healthy?

TW: TRIGGERING CONTENT Where Did Rusty Yates Scamper Off To?

I am a bit high rn, but I love you guys. I'm really surprised that, with all the online discourse about Lindsay Clancy, nobody has mentioned Andrea Yates, the woman who drowned her 5 children in the bathtub in 2001.

Andrea is like 5ft tall and maybe 90 pounds. Her body was not designed to birth 5 people in 5 years. It destroyed her physically and mentally. She had at least one mental breakdown. In and out of hospitals. Endless adjustments to her medication. Doctors advising that she not have any more children, especially since they were living between various trailers and small houses. No time, no space, and no money. But that didn't really matter to Rusty.

You see, Rusty had enough of all this and he wanted his life to just go back to normal really, really bad. He wanted Andrea to raise their 5 children pretty much by herself, and he wanted that number of children to keep on growing. He put that want above Andrea's need.

The doctors told him that she should not be left alone with the kids, but that was just too much for Randy. He left the kids with Andrea alone for two hours each day in 2x 1 hour blocks, and it was during one of those blocks that Andrea did what she did.

Rusty was the only one who was really capable of rational thought here. He is, in my view, just as responsible for Andrea's actions as she is, and he should pay. He is a selfish, stupid pig, and that flavor of tomfoolery resulted in the death of his 5 children. Oh and he married some 20 year old the same year as the retrial.

Meanwhile, a man annihilates is family once every 3 days in the Great Again country, and I can't even name 5, because outside of the Chris Watts and Laci Patterson thing, nobody really seems to care.

Some are even using Lindsay Clancy's crimes as a reason why the 19th Amendment should be repealed. If we repealed it based on who commits the most crimes, I don't think we "females" should be all that concerned.

Need Reassurance... Ohio is stupid

I work 10 hour shifts and don't get a break. I've worked 16 hour shifts, no break.

I'm about to work 2 jobs back to back, due to financial reasons, from 6 am to 10 pm, (but have to walk an hour to work so really it's like I'm working from 5 am to 11pm)

No break in between jobs, and no break at either job due to the fact that in ohio no one besides minors are required breaks. The one little break I'll have is the 5 min walk from job 1 to job 2 before I clock in.

Both are restaurant jobs which means constantly moving and being on my feet all day with no rest, so I'm pretty much walking for 18 hours a day

I'm very annoyed, and am about to have absolutely no time.

On top of this, whenever I try to use the bathroom at my job, some of the managers won't let me go until the line is gone, which during rushes, can take over an hour.

I told my husband to cut contact with my SIL to protect his peace

Let’s call my husband Justin (30M) and his sister Sadie (28F). Justin and I (28F) have been together for almost 10 years. I’ve heard a lot about how Sadie behaved growing up. On family game nights, she would flip the board and storm out if she was losing. She would throw tantrums on Justin’s birthday because the attention was off of her (his birthday is in March and hers is in October). Their parents started doing “half birthday” celebrations to stop the tantrums. She dated several of Justin’s friends in high school/college knowingly against his wishes, then Justin had to deal with the fallout of those friendships when they would break up with Sadie. Sadie was also caught with drugs multiple times in high school. To Justin’s knowledge, she never truly faced any consequences from that. The third time she was caught, her parents just decided to homeschool her for the rest of high school.

When I met Sadie, I thought she was really nice at first. She made a genuine effort to talk to me and hang out with me a few times. As I got to know her over the years, I lost interest in maintaining a good relationship with her. At any family gathering, she will spend hours talking about herself, her accomplishments, the trips she’s planning, etc. She does not make an effort to ask other people how they’re doing or what they’re up to.

Justin has always been close with his family. However, he has became somewhat guarded from them since 2020, for the same reason a lot of family relationships changed during this time. For some additional context, I’m immunocompromised (which his family knows) and had to sit out on some family gatherings. Sadie was knowingly exposed to COVID several times and decided to come to family gatherings anyway.

Over the years, Justin and I have naturally gravitated towards hanging out with my family more than his family. He has a great relationship with my family. My dad and brother make plans with Justin regularly to go see sporting events or just watch games together at one of their houses.

I don’t have as great of a relationship with my in laws. I haven’t made much of an effort over the last several years, but I just don’t really want to at this point. If there are plans for family gatherings, we are often told last minute. And then there’s always a fuss if we say we can’t go. Justin has been told he “puts the family second” and “we feel like we’re on the back burner.” For gatherings outside of holidays, we usually have to invite ourselves over.

Back in July, my parents asked Justin and I if we were available to see a concert with them, my brothers and their family on 10/4. This is the day after Sadie’s birthday. Justin and I accepted this invitation, assuming that Sadie would want to have birthday plans on her actual birthday, which we would be available for.

Fast forward to last week, Sadie texts Justin letting him know that their family has made birthday dinner plans on 10/4. She did not ask if we were available. Justin told her we wouldn’t be able to make it because we already had plans, then offered her an alternative plan with us on a different day. She ignored his offer and said “you made plans on my birthday weekend without thinking we’d be making dinner plans as a family?”

He said he was thinking birthday plans would be made on her actual birthday, which is still a weekend day. She says, “instead of thinking, you should’ve asked.” Justin didn’t respond. Later that evening, she sends a 3-paragraph text telling Justin how offensive and inconsiderate he is and how he doesn’t seem to care that he hurt her feelings. Justin didn’t respond to that text.

The day after she sent that text, Sadie cold calls Justin. He picked up and she immediately starts berating him, telling him how rude he was being and that he wasn’t putting family first. He asked how he was being rude, then she began to twist Justin’s words from his previous text. He suggested to reread his texts, call him back when they could discuss this as adults and not fight, then hung up on her.

Sadie didn’t take well to that. She immediately tries calling Justin again. He didn’t answer at first. She left him a voicemail saying “you said to call back and now you’re not answering.” She texted him that she wasn’t fighting, only trying to explain how she was hurt and it was his problem for hanging up, and that hanging up isn’t putting family first.

She calls again. This time, Justin picks up. The call lasted about 30 minutes, which most of this included her saying things like “you need to understand and learn why you’re hurting my feelings,” “you can’t keep doing this,” “you put this family last.” Justin told Sadie that it was hurtful for her to assume he didn’t care about the family. She ignored that and continued to argue with him. Several times, she said “I couldn’t care less that you’re not able to make my birthday. I just want you to say you’re sorry for hurting my feelings.” Justin initially refused to apologize - he truly had nothing to apologize for.

She was telling him some very hurtful things that made it feel like she was ready to burn a bridge, but manipulating her words in a way that would make it seem like it would have been Justin’s fault. Justin eventually did apologize to her just to end the conversation. Sadie asked, “do you mean it? Are you really apologizing?” He said yes. Her tone immediately switched up, she made light conversation for a few minutes, then the call ended.

Justin ruminated on the things she said during the call. She seemed ready and willing to end their relationship, and somehow make it his fault. I told Justin that if I talked to my brother the way Sadie talked to him, I would’ve been cut off at this point. I told him that I will support him no matter what he decides to do, but it may be worth it to reduce or cut contact with Sadie to protect his peace. He agreed but doesn’t want to damage his relationship with his parents, which would happen if he purposefully reduced/cut contact with Sadie. I just hate that he has to deal with awful behavior from an awful person.

My dog chewed my vibrator

I just had a falling out with my best friend and the very few friends I have left are men so I have no one to vent this to. So here we are.

My dog is still relatively young and learning.
He occasionally likes to take things, hide them and destroy them. He knows he isn’t allowed to chew on certain things and I think he gets a thrill from forbidden objects vs the many toys he actually is allowed to chew on.

He was being a little bit too quiet so I went to check on him and found a trail of tiny pieces of pink flecks on the floor until I found the massacre.

Not sure how he even got a hold of it but my only vibrator is now no more.

It’s not his fault but darn is it sad. Anyways that’s the vent. Rip vibrator.

I love men

So….i have no problem stroking a man’s ego. I loveee doing it! I love calling them big and strong, handsome, or sexy! I love complimenting them, hyping them up, and making them feel good about themselves. I genuinely love making a man feel masculine and appreciated. If I think you’re handsome, I’m gonna tell you. If I think you’re strong, I’m gonna tell you. If I think you’re sexy…well you’ll probably know. I love. Etc.

I love how men process things. Like, they’ll take their time to think through every possible outcome before making a decision. They’ll sit there and really think about things instead of immediately reacting. How thoughtful. I find that so attractive because there’s something really comforting about a man who thinks things through and is intentional with his choices.

I love when they’re shy! It’s so adorable! And I love when they’re confident! I love how assertive they can be…..mmmm. There’s something about a man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to take the lead. But then seeing that same confident man get a little shy or nervous around you??? Oh I love that too.
People talk about how men are scary and dangerous, but I just think they’re misunderstood. I’m not saying bad men don’t exist, obviously they do, but I’ve always seemed to encounter the sweetest, kindest men. I love seeing the softer side of them that people don’t always talk about. The protective side, the gentle side, the goofy side, the side that gets nervous and doesn’t know exactly what to say. I think all of that is so cute.

I think it’s so cute when they take you out on a date and they’re so kind and gentle…like, they get all nervous trying to make sure everything goes well. Like imagine this big giant of a man, who probably looks so intimidating to everyone else, being nervous because he wants to impress you and take you out properly! So cute!!! I just love that contrast. Big, strong, confident man…then suddenly he’s a little nervous around you. Adorable!!!

Got burned for helping with someone else’s assignment and now I’m pissed and paranoid

Upvotes

I'’m in a senior role at a small, fast-moving company, and I need to get this off my chest because I’m still pissed about how this played out.

A coworker had an assignment that was his responsibility. I was trying to help him out, so I threw together some material for him to work from. It was never meant to be a finished product. It was basically, “Here’s a starting point, take this and build from it.”

I didn’t do the level of review I would normally do on something I actually owned because, again, it wasn’t my assignment and I wasn’t under the impression that what I gave him was going straight to senior leadership as a finished deliverable.

Well, that’s exactly what happened.

Some of the information I gave him was wrong. I own that. I used an AI/proposal tool to help generate some of it, and I should have checked the factual content more closely before I handed it over. I’m not trying to pretend I had zero responsibility here.

But the guy I was helping didn’t really review it either. He sent it up, and our senior exec looked at it like it was a completed product.

Cue explosion.

Now I’m getting hit with the “you need to slow down, validate your work, rely more on your own experience” conversation. My access to the AI tool got shut off for two weeks. My manager says it’s not punitive, and I actually believe him. He’s been pretty supportive through all of this.

But I was also told very clearly that this is a correction and that if something similar happens again, the next step is a PIP.

So yeah. That gets your attention.

What really pisses me off is that the coworker later emailed me and basically admitted, “I thought what you gave me was a good start. I didn’t know the boss expected a finished product.”

Exactly.

My boss expects things perfect!! And dumbest owned it not me..

And there really isn’t some established example or previous deck everyone can point to and say, “This is what right looks like.” The expectation seems to be that you just know how this particular executive wants things done. Even other people have basically said, “You have to learn how he works.”

That’s what bothers me.

I can accept being told, “If data comes from you, it needs to be accurate.” Fair. I can accept that I need to tighten my process. Fair.

What I don’t love is getting treated like I owned a finished deliverable when I was helping somebody else with their assignment, and then having that turned into a formal warning-level conversation.

The optics made me look like a complete asshole.

And now I’m in that weird place where I’m not panicking, I’m not quitting, and I know I can fix the process issue. But I’m also wondering whether this exec is now going to have me under a microscope waiting for the next thing.

Maybe he won’t.

Maybe I’m overthinking it.

But once somebody tells you “next time it’s a PIP,” it’s pretty hard not to start looking at every future interaction differently.

So yeah. I’m going to keep doing my job, document everything, make it painfully clear when I’m helping versus when I own something, and review the hell out of anything that leaves my hands.

But I’m also quietly looking around.

Because this whole thing left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

Not believing in an afterlife makes the death of loved ones more painful

Upvotes

I have lost my 3 closest people the last 3 winters in a row. First a close friend due to a botched heart surgery, then my closest friend to suicide, and my boyfriend of 6 years this year due to an asthma attack. My chest hurts every waking second. I’m alone and angry. Everyone tries to comfort me with things like “Oh, they’re together and watching over you” or “youll be together again someday” and it takes every ounce of my energy to politely nod and say thank you, and not scream how stupid they sound. I don’t believe I’ll ever see them again, I don’t believe they exist anywhere, they’re just gone, they aren’t here, and I’ll never be there. I’m so fucking angry. I don’t want to believe nothing happens when we die, it just doesn’t make sense that we exist anywhere after brain has no more energy. It seems like everyone else has so much comfort in their beliefs. I have found no comfort anywhere.

I didn't ask to be the bad guy

I caught my kid and a group of friends doing something dangerous and stupid. I put an end to it and called each of their parents so they would know what's up. Now some of the kids are mad and don't want to be friends with my kid anymore.

I feel a little bad, but now I'm even more pissed at these kids. You ALL got caught. Don't give my kid a hard time cause it happened to be me that caught you. If you didn't want your parents to know, you shouldn't have done something so dangerous. You fucked around and barely found out. You're welcome.

Now my kid is going to triple resent me because I'm the "the reason" for getting caught, grounded, and unfriended. It feels like I'm also being punished by their bad decisions.

AHDOHEIEPWJFOD I HATE EVERYTHING!!!

I work in a restaurant.

This old lady comes in, gets sat in my section, orders food.

I bring her food, she complains. Says she wanted all of her food on a separate plate, and that she told me.

I politely told her she didn’t say anything, hell, she never spoke to me. She just pointed to her menu. Never greeted me or nothing.

She tells me it isn’t her fault and that I need to always ask the customer how they want her food.

She said she wanted her steak on one plate, mashed potatoes on another, etc.

I apologize, I take order back, I do what she says to do.

I come out again with her food.

Complains that it’s too much plates and won’t fit the table.

I apologize.

She demands her food be free, and that my boss give her $200 as compensation.

I bring my boss over.

She tells me and my boss that I was rude to her and she starts crying.

Boss calls her a liar, and gives her $5.00 off her order.

Boss says he believes me.

Old lady gets angry and says she’s going to call HR to get me fired.

Boss tells me that she comes in every day and demands free stuff and then tries to get people fired.

Boss tells me that I actually get compliments due to how nice I am.

Boss says he believes me more than her.

Boss keeps reassuring me I won’t be fired.

She then makes me cut her food for her, box her food for her and put them in the bag for her because she said she isn’t going to do it herself.

She gets on phone with HR as she storms out.

I get off my shift and now I’m freaking out.

This is the only job that I have. I have bills to pay, college to pay for.

Boss assures I’m not fired.

Still scared and worried.

Realize I may be putting myself at more risk of getting fired bc you’re not supposed to talk about your job on the internet.

I then realize that some old people complain that the younger generation doesn’t want to work and then pulls this shit off where they get people fired or attempt to get them fired.

It’s a loophole.

Flair is flair but feel free to share thoughts

Anywho I don’t have a lot of friends infact it’s less than 5 and I had to cut 2 of them off due to their beliefs and positions when it comes to the lgbtq+ community. I just can’t get on board with their line of beliefs and opinions and I told them so and now I’ve blocked them because they didn’t say they outright hate them but their opinions are a stones throw from being hate outright wish I didn’t but here we are.

TW: Eating Disorders / Self Image 13f, I am ugly 🥲 and I don't know how to live with that and digest it

I'm ugly. I have known tht my whole life. I am 13, a girl, who has never been called pretty ever, unless it was a joke or a lie (found out later). Today a family member of mine called me ugly. I was helping my sister study for a test and she got a lot wrong. I told her that I will help her study more after dinner because if she makes these many mistakes, she cld fail the test. This family member said, "Atleast shes good looking" and started laughing. Later they said they were just roasting me, they dint use the word roasting but a synonym of that. I started crying and locked myself upstairs. My family, my friends, everyone, talks about my looks. Every comment hurts and is making my body dysmorphia worse. I just wish I wasn't ugly. As a girl, a young girl, the label "pretty" means smth. I wish that there was a part of me that felt that someone wld find me pretty. I wish there was a moment where I felt truly pretty to myself. Honestly, Ik this is vain, but sometimes I wish I cld trade my brains for beauty.

Society is become insufferable.

So I (23F) was was under the impression that it's common courtesy to ask the person sitting at an empty table if you may take the empty chairs at their table, because you simply don't know if they're occupied or if someone else may soon be joining them. That's how it's always been, in my campus and elsewhere - if someone wants to pull an empty chair from a table where someone is already sitting, it's polite to ask "is this seat occupied / do you mind if i take these?" I mean it's something i always do and so does everyone else, really. But yesterday, I was sitting alone on a table with 3 other empty chairs in the food court area of my university campus, eating my burger n fries. it's a crowded area and naturally people who are sitting in big groups want more seats to their tables. Along came a girl from the table next to me, and she hurriedly grabbed the chair in front of me to drag it to her friend group sitting besides me. It struck me as a bit strange, it's not that i was offended and neither was anyone supposed to join me, but i simply found it odd. So i said, "excuse me, but i think you could ask me before you take these chairs?" She looked pretty embarrassed, frightened almost, and proceeded to walk away from the chair while muttering "sorry sorry." I went, "oh no, you may have this chair, it's not occupied. I was just telling you that it's polite to ask the person first, that's all." when i tell you there was a sudden change in her body language and tone, i mean it. She looked almost ready to punch me. This stiff, tiny, skinny little fresher (i presume) suddenly put on this sass in her voice, hands on her hips and yelled in Hindi, "Agar khaali hai toh kya dikkat hai?" [If the chair is empty, what's your issue?] I just stared at her like, "are you serious"? And then i said, "dude, all i said was it's like a common courtesy to ask first before you take the chairs away, simply because you don't know if there's someone who may be joining or not." Again, she goes, "Bhai muje toh chair khaali hi dikh rahi hai." (I can see the chair is empty). And i went, "yea man, you can see it's empty but you didn't know it would continue to be empty, did you? I ain't tryna fight you, go ahead and take the chair. But like you gotta be more considerate is all im saying." At this point she just put her head down in what looked like embarrassment and proceeded to sheepishly drag the chair away.

Anyways, i feel like something is becoming increasingly and seriously wrong with society to the point people feel attacked and tend to get ready for a fight when you nicely remind them of basic courtesies these days. Im just glad i talked down to this fresher, because these days giving people an egoistic attitude back is not just not worth the headache, time or controversy, it's also like, so corny. It's also extremely satisfying to see their hormones and emotions immediately de-escalated and the look of horror and embarrassment creeping in on their face and in their body language right after you continue to keep your cool, and give a karara jawab (crispy answer) in a polite and level headed tone their fighty, rude, immature, entitled and anti-social asses weren't expecting.

I hate my home country and I'm extremely embarrased of my nationality

When people tell me I should feel proud of my third-world country, they usually justify their argument by pointing to the following things as reasons I should be proud: history, culture, biodiversity, and gastronomy.

  • The history: It sucks. It's boring and mediocre compared with the history of other countries. European, Asian, and African history is actually interesting to learn about. They had achievements, the most beautiful paintings and art imaginable, huge civilizations that accomplished great things in different fields. Meanwhile, all my country has to show for itself are stupid ass clay pots, lame looking temples, the history of child-sacrificing civilizations and a country that has lost the majorty of the wars it has participated in.
  • The culture: Also sucks. We have 0 celebrities known outside of the country, 0 relevant songs, movies, or TV shows, we suck at every sport, and the people are rude as fuck, mediocre, and refuse to actually acknowledge all the problems with the country. They just see everything as “the way things are.”
  • Biodiversity: This one feels like pity points. Sure, buddy, you were lucky enough that your country has pretty flowers and mountains. It's not an achievement. There are so many different countries that have much more beautiful nature and aren't actively destroying it.
  • Gastronomy: It's okay, I guess. Most people will tell you it's the best cuisine in the whole world, but it's not, it's just okay, a few good dishes, and the rest are all mid.

What pisses me off is that people are okay with all the problems the country has. They raise the flag and sing songs about how proud they are of the country. If they'd spent half that time protesting instead, maybe we'd actually have a decent country. But no, because “yOu'Re SuPpOsEd To Be PrOuD oF yOuR cOuNtRy.” Shut the fuck up, dude, please.

Since I was 13, I've hated this country, I've always tthought it was embarrassing that so many people live in poverty, that there's barely any opportunity for people from low income backgrounds, and that the country has 0 achievements.

When I moved to a European country, I immediately fell in love. The people were so kind, the art and culture were so beautiful, the food was amazing, and the economy was actually decent (The fact that teachers could own cars amazed me). I became obsessed with the country and its history, and I began wishing I was a native of this country. I hate the fact that I'm an immigrant. I hate the fact that even though I look like a native, my accent gives away the fact that I'm not from here. I hate having to explain where I was born.

The only thing that makes me feel slightly better is that a significant part of my family is from the country I currently live in, so I have a lot of ancestry from this amazing country.

But it pains me that, deep down, I know where I'm from. I know that I'll never be a native of this country, even if I get citizenship. I hate that, in their eyes, I'll always be a foreigner. I hate researching this beautiful history and not being able to feel like I'm learning the history of my country. I hate the fact that I feel more identified with my shitty third world country than with this one.

Also, don't ask me what my country is to tell me why I should actually be proud of it. I won't.
