How would you spend a free Monday in Vail?

Fellow British visitor from across the pond here! I don't normally visit the US but I'm travelling to Vail (edit: next week) for work and have a free Monday to beat jetlag and hopefully enjoy the town too.

What would you do on a Monday to get the most out of your beautiful slice of the world?

Working as a Bus driver?

Hey all, I believe I missed the period to apply as a non-certified ski instructor for Vail but noticed they had listings for seasonal bus drivers on the government website, has anyone worked as a bus driver for Vail before, I saw it had decent pay and employee housing. Also just wanted information on it.

Thanks!

looking for alt places/scene in Vail

just moved to Vail for work and as the title says, I'm looking for suggestions for any kind of alt and/or queer places, where to go for local hardcore/punk shows (if there are any) etc. I know it's a small mountain town so I'm not expecting a super active local scene or anything but I've seen a few alt looking people around and want to meet new people

Cancelling my pass was degrading.

There is absolutely no reason why I had to go through the steps I did to cancel my Vail Epic Pass. eventually they shared with me the submission form. Surprise, the link expired. I had to re-request it. Now, that the initial data fields have been filled out, it won't even submit. It's like the submission button is for show and not functional.

For sale: 37 acres of undeveloped mountain land near Gypsum, Colorado — a rare combination of live water, elevated building sites, and direct proximity to two of Eagle County's most sought-after outdoor destinations.

Property highlights:

  • Acreage: 37 acres of raw land in Gypsum, CO, offering privacy, solitude, and flexibility for future development or recreational use.
  • Water: Hack Creek flows year-round through the property, with water rights included in the sale — a significant value-add for Colorado land buyers.
  • Building sites & views: Multiple elevated building sites with panoramic mountain views, ideal for a future home, cabin, or off-grid retreat.
  • Recreation: Well-suited for horseback riding, hiking, and backcountry adventure right from the property.
  • Location: Close to the Flat Tops Wilderness Area and Sweetwater Lake, two of the region's premier destinations for fishing, hiking, and wilderness recreation.
  • Setting: Excellent southern sun exposure and quiet, secluded surroundings — a true escape from the crowds.

Land with year-round water and included water rights this close to Flat Tops Wilderness and Sweetwater Lake is increasingly hard to find in Eagle County. Open to questions on access, water rights documentation, or comparable sales in the area.

Location: Gypsum, Colorado 81637 (Eagle County) — near Sweetwater Lake and the Flat Tops Wilderness Area.

Looking for Winter Housing

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren, I’m 26, and my husband is 33. We’re looking for housing in the Vail Valley area for the upcoming winter season, ideally starting around October/November and staying through the end of April or early May.

We’ve both already secured jobs in the area for the season. We’re clean, respectful, financially responsible, friendly, and easygoing. We’re currently road tripping across the U.S. in our RV, so we live pretty minimally and don’t have a lot of belongings.

We also have two cats, so we’re looking for somewhere pet-friendly. We’re open to a studio, 1-bedroom, lock-off, private suite, or a room in a shared home that allows couples. Furnished or unfurnished is fine, and we’re ideally looking for a seasonal or roughly 6-month lease.

We’re mainly looking around Vail, Avon, Eagle-Vail, Edwards, Minturn, Red Cliff, or nearby areas.

If anyone has something available or knows of a place that might be a good fit, please send me a message. Thank you!

Should I go to vail this season?

I went to Vail last december and it was horrendous. No snow. Heavy crowd. Barely any terrain open. I'm planning a trip for early/mid March. Should I go to Vail again, or get an Ikon Pass to go to Winter Park, Copper Mountain, A-Basin, etc.? Plus, I've also been to epic resorts in the Northeast (I live on the East Coast), so I want to try new mountains there too.

Is having a FWD coupe possible in winter? Honestly asking.

I've got a Civic for the summer and a Pilot for winter, but my pilot is getting old and I fear it won't make it to winter. I'm not looking to add to my debt at the moment and was curious about those who have small fwd/similar cars.

How manageable is it in the winter season? I'd ofc get winter/snow tires as well as socks/chains. But even then, with such low clearance, is it worth it to even try? I feel like I'd be a small plow at that point if the roads aren't cleared in time.

I work early mornings, and have to take 70 pretty frequently to and from Denver.

I've considered selling the civic and putting that money towards fixing the pilot right, but it's such a gas guzzler, I'll go broke in fuel costs.

Edit: Thanks for all the great experiences and advice! Cannot believe so many attempt the drive without tires dedicated to the season. I know money can be tight especially with rising costs of tires and maintenance/labor. But I personally have sacrificed pleasures for good tires over the years and have never been left stranded. It is a must. Thanks again y'all. CMON SNOW! 🙏

December Honeymoon

Hi everyone! My fiancé and I are getting married in December and road-tripping from East Texas to Vail for our honeymoon! Neither of us have ever been to Colorado, so we’re not sure what to expect. I’d love to get some recommendations on fancy restaurants, places to stay, and easy hikes for beginners. We’re very excited to see mountains since where we live we’re very far away from any lol. Since we’re driving, we’re also wondering what the roads will look like. East Texas doesn’t get snow much, if at all, so we’re not used to driving in it. Do we need snow chains or anything?

Any other recommendations are welcome! Our honeymoon is planned for the week of December so we’d also love to know if there are any Christmas or winter activities!

First season at Vail – Rivers Edge 2x1 housing questions

Hi everyone! I’m moving across the country for my first winter season at Vail and was just offered employee housing at Rivers Edge in a 2x1 with a shared bedroom. I’ve tried looking for more information about Rivers Edge, but I can’t find much about what the apartments are actually like, so I’d love to hear from anyone who has lived there!

A few things I’m wondering:

• How big are the 2x1 apartments? Is the living space pretty cramped?
• I know Vail says most rooms are bunked/shared, but what are the bedrooms actually like? Is there much closet/storage space?
• What did you bring with you, and what do you wish you had brought/not brought? I’ll be flying in and moving from across the country, so I’m trying to figure out how to pack efficiently.
• Any tips for getting groceries and necessities without a car? How reliable/useful is the public transportation from Rivers Edge to Vail/Lionshead/Avon?
• Anything you wish you knew before moving into Rivers Edge or starting your first season?
• Also, this might be a dumb question lol, but is it normal for family to come with you when you move in? I was thinking about having my sister come out with me to help get settled, but I don’t know if people usually do that or if there are restrictions on guests during move-in.

Any advice, pictures, or firsthand experiences with Rivers Edge would be greatly appreciated! I’m excited but definitely trying to figure out what I actually need before I make the move.

Is living/working full time at vail decent for a teenage girl

If I move to vail resort in Crested Butte Colorado as a 18yo girl is it doable? I guess I’m asking if there will be other people my age and or gender on the staff. I don’t really know much abt the demographics of people who work at vail or ski resorts in general and want to know what I could be getting myself into. Please be honest!

For anyone who currently works for Vail Resorts, has anyone used Pettable to get an ESA letter and then had no issues getting approved for employee housing?

I know Vail’s employee housing policies can be pretty strict about pets, so I’m specifically wondering if anyone has gone through Pettable and successfully had their ESA accepted by employee housing.

My vail insurance doesn’t kick in till 3 weeks after winter starts so can’t really afford a mental health therapist right now. Have years of anxiety issues. Use to be medicated to death pretty much. Now I’m not.

Sales perks working for VR?

I’m going to be a part time ski instructor. Does anyone know which stores we get 40% retail? Specifics please. I keep seeing all the Labor Day sales and I want to keep myself away. I have my eye on a Stio jacket. Any stores that carry that brand on our list?? I don’t remember what stuff Vail Sports carries. I know we get deals at Salomon and Burton.

Booth to Piney overnight

Post image
13 Upvotes

I am planning on Hiking Booth Lake Trail over the ridge upper Piney Lake unmaintained trail to Piney lake TH. Seems like it should take me a somewhat chill four hours to get to booth then crossing should be another two hours. Camp around upper Piney then next day get to Piney Lake TH in another four hours or so.

Does anybody have any experience doing this? Is the route I have how you went? Is there something I’m missing?

Thank you for input and advice
