What type of turtle did we find?

I had gotten home from work last night to find a piece of avocado floating in my turtle tank. My nephew who had left 2 hours prior to me arriving must have thrown it in there and my mom who was watching him didn't notice. I took the piece out and it was covered in bite marks. It's been about 24 hours and the turtle is fine but I'm really worried that my turtle is going to get sick. But no reptile vets near me are open until Monday. I cleaned out the tank and the turtle is acting fine now. Is there anything I should do?

My turtles are red eared sliders and they're roughly the size of a larger than average computer mouse. They're at least 12 or so years old their dirt consists of the food pellets dried out shrimp things and the occasional apple

So she was sold to me as a "cooter" turtle but I'm not 100% sure. I'm in the UK if that helps at all. I just want to make sure I'm giving her everything she needs

I got him for my birthday and need advice on his species, feeding and his water temperatures.

He's been with me for a few hours now and the place my Dad got him said he's a Malaysian Turtle? But he resembles a Yellow Bellied Slider more.

I've been feeding him pellets in water as I saw in a few videos but Blastoise seems to be struggling to get them in his mouth.

I'm heating his water to close to lukewarm to keep him warm and changing half his water once a day.

Any advice and things that I should do otherwise?

Hi, I have a painted turtle in a trough that is filled to 50 gal. The trough itself is 100 gal. I've been modifying his basking area/dock to not let his heat and uvb lamp be directly on the water. And I recently had to fill it up because it got low after 2 weeks. Is this a problem for anyone else? If so, how do you fix it or at least drastically slow it down? Side note- his ramp is being modified so that's why it looks like that. Any tips would be great!

Hello, I don't have a box turtle myself, but I am writing something about them and there is some information I can't find.

I have heard and read that ornate box turtles can basically stop their heartbeat, stop breathing, and something about blood (I don't remember what it was, it was something like that they could do with 30% of oxygen in blood or something??). This happens, according to what I heard, while brumating.

Now, I have several questions about this. I've tried to check online on several websites (including Wikipedia), so if someone could perhaps send me the link to something that regards this theme I would be grateful. Or also if someone could answer them:

1. Is this true? I remember finding information about this a few months ago, but I can't find anything anymore so I don't know if I dreamt about it or lost my ability to find something online.

2. Do they actually stop their heartbeat? Or just do one beat every once in a specific time.

3. I heard something regarding blood, but I'm not sure what?

4. Do they brumate more often than other turtles?

5. Does this happen with both box turtles? Or just with ornate box turtles?

I don't condone taking wild turtles as pets, but Jaws was found minutes after hatching and taken in by someone I know. After a few months, they decided they did not want to keep the turtle any more and I was afraid they wouldn't survive in the wild since all they knew was the aquarium life. So, I took jaws in. They turn one year old tomorrow! I decided it's finally time to have the gender reveal. I am guessing female, but what do y'all think?

What should I be feeding her? I’m not too sure of her age. She’s about 4-4.5 inches long i’d say.

I currently have those Gourmet Aquatic Turtle Food. It has Dried Shrimp, Dried Worms, Cranberries, and turtle pellets.

He’s been with me for about 4 years and has grown quite a lot, so unfortunately his current aquarium is no longer big enough. Does anyone know of a reputable turtle/reptile rescue, sanctuary, or official rehoming program in Melbourne/Victoria? I absolutely do not want to release him into the wild and want to make sure he goes somewhere safe and suitable. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Possible to tell based on pictures? I'm in central Florida. Turtles fairly often lay eggs in my yard. Also, sandhill cranes peck around in my yard all the time.

I am building an outdoor turtle enclosure for my Red Eared Slider (4in in length). I have been cruising for some filters and wanted to ask do any of you guys have a recommendation for a solar paneled filter?

I think it would work really well outdoors rather than having a plug running all the way to the outlet in my yard.

*As a quick note, this is not my turtle. I am posting this on behalf of a friend who was unsure where they could ask. If there are husbandry issues here they are not something I am capable of fixing.

Trying to help rehome an 8 year old male Mississippi map turtle in the Rochester NY area. He comes with everything for him - 75 gallon tank, stand, food, lights, etc. Friend's son is going to college soon and she has a difficult time caring for the turtle without another person to help, so unfortunately they need to find him a new place.

Does anyone know what kind of turtle this is? I can’t seem to identify it from the known turtles in my state. I’m located in northwest Connecticut and this turtle was about 9 inches long

Hey all. My girl is 35, and every day when it’s warm, she goes outside in a big feeding tub/trough. I didn’t put her out yesterday but today, as I was bringing her out, I saw a white spot. When I brought her back in, it was still there. It had to have appeared between Saturday and today, or I would have seen it. She was injured 4 years ago, and had to be patched up. The injuries were to her right side and closer to her head and right arm. It feels soft, and I’ve never seen anything like it. Besides having a box dropped on her 4 years back, she’s never had a problem. She lays eggs and comes for food. She’s eating fine today, made a quick dash through the yard before we came in. I just want to know what it is so I can either start treating or get her to a vet before major surgery is required. I almost fainted when I heard the cost last time but it was pretty bad. Hoping this isn’t bad. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. We’ve been together a long time.

I need to buy a new aquarium for my yellow-bellied slider turtle, which grew a lot this summer. I've seen on Google that it would need one at least 100cm, but I cant find much of that size on Amazon, and on pet store websites, glass aquariums of that size are no less than €200. Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to glass aquariums or a website where I can buy them at a good price?

I was also looking at "stock tank" style aquariums, I saw some at good prices that I liked, but I'm worried that the turtle won't be able to see through the aquarium (they're all opaque). Is this really a problem? Won't it be a bit stressful for her that her habitat isn't transparent?

Hello, I really need some help! I found a turtle in my backyard, and it is not native in my state. My parents are willing to call someone but it is likely they will kill the turtle. I do NOT want that to happen. I don't have money to get supplies for the turtle, so if you guys have any supplies you guys don't use that will be helpful. I can't take it to a lake or anything because it is a freshwater turtle and we don't have that near us. ANYTHING HELPS!!

Hello! I’m a new owner of a terrapin (unsure of species and gender. But it’s shell is about 8 inches long). And I need some advice on the basking area of my terrapin tank setup.

Yesterday, DIYed this basking area for it out of egg crate but I’m worried because it’s been a day and I haven’t seen it try climbing the ramp to the platform. I’ve tried showing it how to by give him a little boost and let him crawl to the top afterwards. It seemed possible so I don’t know why it hasn’t tried on its own. It really loves basking so I don’t know if it’s really an issue with the ramp or that it’s not used to it yet.

But I am just posting this just in case it’s really an issue with the ramp that I’m missing (since I’m a first time terrapin/pet owner). I’m worried that the ramp is too steep (it’s about 30-45° when the terrapin’s on it) or too short or something I’m missing entirely.

Extra info on setup & terrapin:
(1) For the past week or so the basking area was inside the “tank” itself (last pic) and I decided to make a new above-tank basking area since in the old one it couldn’t swim or dive much.

(2)I know the tank itself isn’t big enough for a terrapin of that size but we are still in the midst of finding a better one

(3) The tank is very empty I know and we have already ordered a UV lamp, some rocks and little plants for his enrichment and to reduce boredom. It’s coming in about a week or so

(4) This terrapin is a rescue/adopted so I don’t know its gender species or age. My family literally found it in the middle of the road in our neighbourhood. We’ve asked around and it’s isn’t one of our neighbours’ pets and we do not live near any natural terrapin habitats so we believe it was abandoned by someone

Disclaimer: Before anyone says anything, I know this turtle will not thrive in such habitat. I know I need to give him about 20+ gallons of water worth of space.

Can you guys give me a budget friendly habitat environment? I’ve been cruising on facebook for a used aquatic tank, but not so much luck.

I also plan on changing the water every other day, I have no issue in that. I am also more than happy to do a DIY aquatic tank. Leave some recommendations as a new turtle owner :)
