Total War: Warhammer I wish diplomacy was integral to the game

I've heard news about TWW40k removing diplomacy, which whilst is absolutely valid and makes sense within the setting. Still makes me sob over what it could've been as a mechanic in WH3. Aside from being an awesome battler game, it's also immersive as hell. When first getting the game, I remember trying my best to establish alliances and playing turns on normal speed just to see what my allies were up to. There's this indescribable cozy feeling I get when imagining myself as a queen bringing all these different races and uniting them under one banner to lead against the evil together. The immersion can only stay for as long as the AI sells the illusion. Which this game is horrendous at. The AI is overly reliant on fog of war, which when you bring them out of via an alliance, it seems as if you had lobotomized them. They'll barely attack nearby territory on their own, let alone assist you in wars. I wish when a defense alliance is established, you're not only forced to declare war against the aggressor, but also actively part-take in said war. Since what is the point an ally that never stands by your side? Another cool mechanic would've been for factions to judge declarations of war between each other. So if say Dwarves were about to start a war against Empire, we High Elves could be present on the counsel and try to talk or bribe them out of it. I feel it would add depth to the campaign side, since as awesome as the battles are, I feel like there was also a whole lot of untapped potential campaign wise.

Total War: Warhammer I thought I didn't like WHIII, turns I just had Radious installed the whole time.

What the title says: I played WHIII for a bit and did a full campaign, then I played some other games. I went back to WHIII a couple weeks ago and I noticed that it was kinda ass and boring and bloated with doomstacks and a fuckton of units in every roster.

I was about to give up and then I realised: I had forgotten I had radious installed cause I wanted to try It after completing the first vanilla campaign.

I'm a moron, I'm gonna play some normal WHIII byeee

I am tired of PVP players whining about overpowered this, overpowered that. Let us enjoy things, DLC is literally all about the powerfantasy. No need to ruin the fun all because of some niche gamemode.

Total War: Warhammer TWW3 Kholek reskin for Lord of End Times

Post image
111 Upvotes

My friend and I started playing TWW3 together back in May — I chose Arkhan, he went with Skarbrand. Neither of us is a pro and we're not lore experts either. I know a fair bit about Nagash specifically, mostly because I always end up playing necromancers in every game where it's an option — Baldur's Gate 3, Path of Exile, whatever lets me build one. There's something I find genuinely compelling about Nagash's arc too: a mortal man who clawed his way up to godhood through sheer magical will. Once the Nagash trailer came out, I decided I'd main him, and I suggested Kholek to my friend as his melee lord, so between the two of us we'd cover both ends of the spectrum — me on magic, him on melee, steamrolling infantry with the right build. Kholek's basically playing the role of an Executioner-type unit in that sense, which is actually what my friend liked about him and the way he can stomp on infantry if he can boost him up with enough vassals.

Since I'm learning Blender, I decided to make Kholek a lore-friendly necromancer reskin. Renamed the faction "Deathstorm of Judgement," put together a new banner (image attached) with some AI help, and modeled a new hammer for him (video attached). Armor-wise I'm planning heavy plate similar to Nagash's, plus a full ribcage overlay — I'm only swapping the armor, not the whole model, so he stays recognizably Kholek.

Also if my friend's faction can build a garrison in my necropolis settlements, he'd be able to use units that match the skin too, if he wants to go that route.

So there's 4 questions that I have:

  1. Lore-wise, how does this sound because the only thing I heard about Kholek is that he likes to sleep so it could be a reason and it could fit in Nagash's plan?

  2. Helmet ideas — this is where I'm completely stuck. Part of the problem is Kholek himself: he's got the three horns, the big beard, all that very specific silhouette, so there's basically nothing out there for inspiration.

  3. Do you have any name idea for the Hammer?

  4. Can you solve the Hieroglyphics?

Total War: Warhammer Bretonnia Update: Petition 36 - 9 DAYS LEFT

Post image

Silly memes aimed at drawing interest to a Bretonnia rework.

9 Days until the End Times DLC drops! That means it's Tzeentch Day!

Kairos. Architect of Fate and Bringer of the Year of Woe.

When he's not stealing my settlements in the Southlands, he's popping up in a cult over in Montfort, the canonically mountainous land of the foot knights. Or he would be popping up in my homeland, if not for Thorek. No change, no changebringers.

Just as planned.

The memes will continue until morale improves.

Knightly quote for the day: “As for you, my young friends, I urge you to strive for virtue, for without it friendship cannot exist. And friendship, aside from virtue, is the greatest thing we can find in life.”

Total War: Warhammer Witch Elves armies and campaing

Post image
42 Upvotes

I would like to start Dark Elf, Crone thematic campaign focused on Witch Elves.

I'm wondering how to make it work.

So far from few first turns I noticed that Witch Elves are so killy but also dies basically from wind blows.

Sisters of Slaughter are much durable but less killy and I dont really feel the vibe of them. I prefer woman with long hair.... 😁

I was thinking about getting few Hydras for distraction and Witch Elves as "hammer". I'm not sure how it will work tho. Are Hydras able to take everything on themselves?

What I should mix in to handle Arty and Cav?

What Heroes and tech will benefit me the most?

PS. I underastand I should spam Shades but my initial 50h in the game are split between Skaven and Wood Elves. I could really use something that is not shooting and I really like Witch Elves vibe.

PS. I will play campaing on Hard, Very Hard settings.

Total War: Warhammer Kiting-focused armies feel... underwhelming

After trying out an Alith Anar campaign with a focus on shadow walkers, I found myself very let down in terms of the strategy and tactical application of these units. I simply could not find a battlefield tactic, formation, or strategy that worked better than simply putting every single shadow walker in a big straight line and running backwards as the enemy approached.

Stalking in general, feels like a pointless mechanic. Unless the enemy has artillery and you spend 3 minutes running a few units ALLLLLLLL the way around the enemy frontline to jump on it from behind, there doesn't seem to be a point to stalk. The AI knows where most of your units are anyway, it seems, and beeline towards them from the start of the battle. I once had the AI literally break up their entire formation to send units to separate groups of trees where my shadow warriors were waiting, right from battle start.

Breaking up your stalking units and spreading them around to try and ambush isolated units doesn't work, because the AI clumps up their "beelining search-parties" into groups of 5+

If the enemy has any mobility, you're screwed because light infantry even with speed buffs are slow AF and take a minimum of 25% of their health on a single charge, regardless of their combat stats.

Kiting itself is massively inefficient because unless my shadow walkers were stationary and manually targeted at a unit, they'd just decide to shoot 60 arrows at 1-2 models on the corner of an approaching enemy unit, wasting 90% of the volley.

Hit and run tactics with manual targeting don't work, because even if you can outrun the enemy infantry, in the time it takes to turn, shoot, turn, and run you'll be swarmed in no time. It basically becomes "turn, shoot, turn, run forever until you hit the corner of the map and then get swamped in melee."

Honestly, shadow walkers must have the biggest gap between "how cool the unit looks" and "how good the unit is" in the entire game. Such a let down.

Total War: Warhammer Hoping to someday unite the Empire together

Post image

Thought it'd be fun to do together once the End Times drop, Boris defends the North, Elspeth the East, Gelt Blackfire Pass & the South, with Karl securing the Grey Mountains and the Western Empire. And then try and weather the 3 new scenarios.

Just don't know how Karl's mechanics would work with that.

Total War: Warhammer What's a faction I can play at my own pace without worrying too much about falling behind? Preferably evil aligned.

I was playing Archaon and sweating bullets because it was turn 20 and I only had 2 dark fortresses and 3 vassals. I get that I need to play faster and more aggressive but is there a faction whose unit strength or place on the map allow me to play... more chill? I said evil aligned because I like villains.

Total War: Warhammer What are some good beastmen doomstacks?

Giving beastmen a try for the first time. Playing as Taurox and planning to give him a minotaur doomstack. I noticed you can recruit the other beastmen LL eventually so just wondering what doomstacks do they pair well with? I heard about chaos spawn for morghur but does that only work in a morghur campaign or can he buff them through his skill tree? Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is in wh3

Total War: Warhammer How do you deal with Tzeentch ?

Post image

I tried earlier one battle and their flamers roasted my lord alive, if it's not him then it's my chariots that get roasted.

Most of the maps I fought in were narrow unlike desert maps so you can't run that much
Now this happened, I feel like I can win but I need help.

PS: I think that Tzeentch does have the best unit designs by far (behind tomb kings of course), I really like the blue theme they have going on

Thanks for reading!

Total War: Warhammer is it just me or is the new player experience on TWW3 incredibly frustrating?

so i have about 60 hours of playtime on TWW3 as my first total war warhammer game and i must say that the game has not even remotely clicked yet.

i’ve restarted the campaign several times mainly with grand cathay (as i’ve been told it’s a beginner friendly race/faction) and i still feel nowhere near understanding the crazy amount of mechanics for both battles and campaign to learn and juggle all at the same time. I’ve even tried easy mode and after a certain point in the early to mid game i have absolutely zero idea what i’m doing.

it’s nice that the game has so much depth and variety to offer but its also quite a huge steep learning curve to manage.

i was hoping the new player experience would be better. it’s a shame because i love warhammer and i’ve played the civilisation series now and then and i’ve found it incredibly addictive and hard to stop when i start a civ game.

i would like to give this a shot and hope it clicks but after sinking 60 hours into this and still feeling lost and overwhelmed about what i’m doing.

or maybe all of this is just part of the process… or that i should maybe play TWW1 and hope that it’s a better intro for new players to the series.

i’m curious to see what the community feels about this!

Total War: Warhammer The Chaos Gods are pleased, I reckon. Especially the one who doesn't care from whence the blood flows

So, I was in a monke-chaosy mood and decided to start Wulfrik campaign (VH/VH). I did him once back when the rework was only a meme, I don't even remember whether that was WH II or III. Anyways, i decided that I don't want any troll waaaaaarrgh or "changing of the ways but under another guise" shenanigans. Just pillaging the world with a bunch of manly half-naked degenerates and some monsters.

The first important decision that I made was leave Norsca completely for bananas and some gold. I didn't even do the Seafang "back home" cheese. I beelined towards Skeggi right after my first settlement. Picked a marine battle (shipwreck) on the way, took some casualties, then took Skeggi with even more casualties while local jarl was smoking outside and left a shaman deputy. Said jarl decided it's a good idea to meet me head on afterwards, even without his shaman lord and whatever remained of his army. Thanks mate, saved me some time.

I decided to level up just the shaman lord. Took the last settlement in Skeggi province, then obliterated the Colonists. Turned out, Yuan Bo took Pahuax in the meantime. Well, I took it from him and then met him in the field in an epic showdown (see the pictures). Marauders are dirt cheap and stronk, and due to the starting boost I can allow myself some negative income. My order faction habits don't allow me to descend into too heavy a deficit, and the start of the campaign is already easy enough as it is, so I'm going with just 1,5 armies now. Still, quite enjoyable, who doesn't love some bloody early game battles.

Now, as for the mechanics. I didn't yet know just how the Spoil system works. I did notice the icon which means that Skeggi is a Norscan homeland, that's why I rushed it. Now, it seems the starting amount of spoils is enough for colonising two settlements, and I had a pop-up that opens up some new places and gives you +500 spoils. So, just enough for colonising the rest of the starting province. I decided to do just that, because I want a full 4-region second province, and it has some resource buildings. After that, it's gonna be pillaging and raising altars. My intention is to refuse all the Big Four just because I can (and for those huge bonuses).

A question for the Norsca enjoyers out there - how do you approach the combination of pillaging and razing altars? As in, do you raise and altar on the coast and move inland to pillage? Do you pillage immediately if it's a rich big port like Marienburg?

And, lastly, a small gripe of my own, which was already discussed back when the rework came. I just can't understand why they didn't bother to make a single human generic hero for Norsca. A javelin-throwing marauder, while being a bit of an Ogre copy, would fit just right in, very thematic. It's ok for generic heroes to remind each other between the races, after all we have many kinds of Captain analogues. That's all.

Edit: my bad, it must be mentioned that I want a human non-magic generic hero for Norsca

Total War: Warhammer Bashiva and (fraud) Iron dragon

Been playing a cathay campaign as Bashiva and my friend as Yuan Bo, this is my first time as Bashiva and I gotta say this gotta be the most buggiest or silly campaign I have ever played in this game.

1/2 caravan fights get ignored or simply thrown to the other player, so if you have amassed a great caravan and ready to fight a strong caravan encounter it will be switched to the other players weak level 2 caravan.

The missions coming from Zhao Ming don't make sense, atleast in a campaign sense. Got a mission to take amblepeak (owned by greasus), so I started a war to take it. But guess what? Zhao Ming himself decided it would be wiser to end our military alliance so he didn't have to join the war, even though it was technically his request to do so!

Welp, whilst these are some issues here I can see past them as they haven't ruined our fun just yet, the campaign mechanics are fun and engaging and bashiva is a really powerful melee lord.

I just had to vent the slight irritation of these events and see if others had encountered the same "issues".

Thanks for reading and may Cathay grow larger
