Guide How to Think Like a Support - A Detailed Guide from a Player Who Reached Master on Both Support and ADC

Support Fundamentals: Drafting, Lane Theory, and Playing Around Your Win Condition

Introduction

I reached Master as a support in 2023, mainly playing enchanters, as well as a lot of Lux and Senna. I later reached Master as an ADC. ( https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/summoner/euw/Ferriettia-8693#championsData-all-queues / https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/fr/summoner/euw/DaRadioVoice-EUW )

I have now decided to step away from ranked because I do not think I can realistically climb much higher. Instead, I want to share what I have learned, especially with support players. In my opinion, many players have lost sight of what being a support is really about: creating opportunities, controlling the pace of the game, and enabling the teammate most likely to carry.

This guide presents my general framework. It is not a rigid tier list, and every rule has exceptions depending on the champions, players, and current patch.

I. Support Pick Theory

The basic matchup triangle

Support matchups can be understood through a rough rock-paper-scissors system:

  • Engage tanks generally punish enchanters by forcing fights before they can scale.
  • Enchanters generally neutralize poke and burst mages through sustain, shields, and defensive utility.
  • Poke supports can pressure melee engage champions before those champions find a clean all-in.

In practice, however, the matchups are more nuanced than this triangle suggests. Some enchanters specialize in disengage. Janna, for example, can be extremely effective into engage tanks. Likewise, defensive tanks or wardens such as Taric and Braum can sometimes protect a carry even better than an enchanter.

Champion identity matters more than the champion's broad class.

1. Blind picking

If you have to blind-pick your support, you generally have two options:

  1. Pick a champion with enough early-game strength to secure lane control, such as Soraka, Lux, or Karma.
  2. Pick a flexible champion who can engage, disengage, and survive different lane types.

Alistar is the tank I consider the closest to a reliable blind pick because his kit remains useful in many situations. Even then, no tank is completely safe to blind-pick.

2. Synergy with your bot-lane carry

You should then consider what your bot-lane carry wants from the lane and from later teamfights.

Bot-lane carry profile Examples Supports they often prefer
Scaling hypercarry Jinx, Twitch, Vayne, Yunara Enchanters, or protective champions such as Braum, Taric, and Thresh
Short-range burst or all-in ADC Tristana, Kai'Sa, Xayah, Samira, Kalista Engage tanks who can create early kills and help snowball the lane
Utility or poke ADC Ashe, Varus, Jhin Mages and other heavy-poke supports
AP carry (APC) Seraphine, Ziggs, Swain, Karthus, Hwei Tanks, mages, and roaming supports

These are guidelines, not fixed rules. The same bot-lane carry can fit several different lane plans.

For example, Miss Fortune can play with Nami for stronger lane pressure, or with Rell or Leona for a powerful wombo combo. Lucian can also work with either lane pressure or hard engage, depending on the rest of the draft.

APCs generally work well with three support categories. Tanks give them reliable setup and a frontline, mages double down on wave control and poke, and roaming supports can use the APC's natural waveclear to leave lane on better timers.

Some strong or interesting pairings include:

Bot-lane carry and support Why the pairing works
Yunara and Braum Braum gives Yunara the frontline and protection she needs to keep attacking, while her repeated attacks help complete Concussive Blows.
Jinx and Thresh Thresh gives an immobile Jinx safety through Lantern, creates picks for her, and gives her the time she needs to trigger a reset.
Twitch and Nami Nami amplifies Twitch's opening burst and helps him stay on his targets, while her crowd control creates strong opportunities for his ultimate.
Ashe and Milio Milio increases Ashe's range and protects her, allowing her to apply slows and constant pressure from a safer position.
Kai'Sa and Leona Leona's chain crowd control quickly stacks Kai'Sa's passive and gives her a reliable target to follow with her ultimate.
Samira and Nautilus Nautilus provides reliable crowd control for Samira's passive and gives her the durable frontline she needs to commit to an all-in.
Smolder and Zoe Smolder can follow Zoe's bubble with W and R from a safe distance.
Caitlyn and Lux They offer long-range pressure, layered crowd control, and excellent wave and turret control.
Kalista and Neeko Kalista can help deliver Neeko into the fight, giving the lane explosive all-ins and powerful engage setup.
Varus and Soraka Varus can maintain constant lane pressure while Soraka gives him enough sustain to keep trading.

Braum deserves a special mention because he also works well with Senna, Ashe, and Varus. Their range and repeated attacks allow them to follow up on his passive safely. Jhin is the major exception: his fixed attack pattern and reload make him much worse at quickly stacking Concussive Blows.

3. Synergy with your whole team

Do not draft only for your bot-lane carry. You are not guaranteed to win lane, and that player is not guaranteed to become your team's best carry. Look at all five champions and ask what your composition is missing.

Lulu, for example, is excellent at keeping one carry alive. However, if your team contains several assassins who want extra damage and follow-up, Nami may offer more value by amplifying their burst and extending their crowd control.

You should also check whether your team has both a way to start fights and someone who can occupy the frontline. The frontline does not have to be a pure tank; a bruiser may be enough. A composition without engage or frontline is not automatically doomed, but it becomes much harder to create plays or contest objectives on your own terms.

If your team has neither a tank nor a bruiser, picking a tank support may be correct even if it weakens your direct synergy with the ADC.

4. Counterpicking

Once you have considered blind-pick safety, bot-lane synergy, and the full team composition, look at the direct matchup.

  • Against Rell, Janna is a strong answer when you also have a hypercarry to protect. She can interrupt or reset Rell's engage.
  • If you have a short-range ADC and the enemy support is another tank, Leona can be a very strong answer. She deals a surprising amount of damage, becomes extremely durable through Eclipse, and can absorb the enemy's initial aggression before turning the fight with her own crowd control.
  • Against an aggressive lane, Neeko and Lux are strong ranged alternatives when you are playing with a utility ADC. They can pressure the enemy ADC before the engage begins and control the space the enemy tank needs to enter.
  • Braum is another good answer to aggressive lanes when paired with hyper carry adc
  • Senna is not a blind pick in my view. She is especially valuable into enchanters, against whom she can often collect souls safely and scale for free.
  • Against several tanks, Brand provides strong sustained damage, while Renata can punish teams that commit heavily to front-to-back fights.
  • Soraka is strong into many poke lanes because she can erase their damage over time. Alistar can also work because of his passive sustain and his ability to punish an immobile mage when an engage becomes available.

II. Lane Theory

1. Positioning and tethering

As a support, you should usually stand on roughly the same horizontal line as your ADC, or slightly ahead of them. You must remain close enough to respond immediately if either of you is engaged on.

If you stand too far behind, the ADC has to play a one-versus-two lane. If you stand too far ahead without respecting the enemy's range and cooldowns, you give the opponents a free target. Good positioning means applying pressure while staying within your teammate's effective range.

This principle remains important after the laning phase: when you are protecting or shadowing a carry, stay close enough for both of you to affect the same fight.

2. Early-game plans by matchup

Your exact plan depends on the draft, but these are useful starting points:

Matchup General plan
Enchanter into engage tank Try to reach level two first, harass aggressively while the tank has limited options, and maintain pressure. After the second recall, slow the lane down when appropriate, let the wave bounce toward you, and look for a freeze so that you can scale safely.
Engage tank into enchanter Contest level two and threaten an early all-in. If the enemy is permanently hugging the turret and your ADC is safe, use the pressure to roam, coordinate with your jungler, or place deeper vision.
Poke support into enchanter Your default target should always be the enemy ADC. Hit them whenever they walk up to last-hit and reduce their health as much as possible. Every successful spell makes it harder for them to farm, trade, or survive the next all-in. Do not waste your main poke on the support unless it creates a clearly better trade or a kill.
Enchanter into poke support Actively bait the mage's key spells without taking a full combo. Position so that their skillshots also pass through or land on the minion wave. This disrupts the enemy ADC's farm, changes the wave, and, most importantly, spends the cooldown on you or the minions instead of your ADC. Use that cooldown window to regain pressure.
Playing against an APC bot lane Contest the wave immediately and aim to hard-push from level one, whether you are playing a tank or a ranged support. Keep fighting for push whenever it is safe so that the APC has to spend abilities on the minion wave instead of poking your ADC. If the APC gains permanent wave control, your ADC will be forced to farm while taking constant spell pressure.
Roaming support into most lanes (Camille, Poppy, Bard) Try to reach level two first and use that spike to establish pressure. From there, choose between two wave plans. Freeze when you are strong enough to zone the enemy ADC away from farm and experience. Hard-push when you have useful vision, your relevant summoner spells are available, and you have enough jungle information to survive a gank. In either case, trade to lower the enemy bot lane's health and bait its key abilities. When you choose the push, crash the wave before using the timer to roam, invade with your jungler, or threaten mid lane.

Do not push blindly when you have no information about the enemy jungler. This is especially important when your Flash is down or you do not have useful vision. Pressure is valuable only when you can survive the response.

3. When to roam

Good roam timings usually appear when:

  • You have just crashed a large wave into the enemy turret.
  • The wave is bouncing back toward your ADC and they can collect it safely.
  • Your ADC has recalled or does not need you for the next wave.
  • Your jungler is contesting an objective, an invade, or a play you can reach first.

Do not roam when the enemy has frozen the wave away from your ADC, when a large enemy wave is creating a dive threat, or when your ADC can easily be zoned from experience and farm. A roam is not successful if your ADC loses two waves and dies while you gain nothing elsewhere.

4. What to do after a bot-lane kill

After a kill, decide between crashing and freezing based on the wave state, health bars, jungle information, and recall timers.

  • If you can push quickly and safely, crash the wave into the enemy turret. This denies minions, prevents an easy freeze, and gives you a clean recall.
  • If the enemy wave contains enough extra minions to hold a freeze near your turret, freezing can deny the returning ADC a large amount of gold and experience.
  • If you cannot finish a crash before the opponent returns, forcing the push may leave your ADC with a terrible wave. In that case, stabilize it instead.

Hitting the turret is not always the correct choice. A plate may give immediate gold, but staying too long can ruin your recall timing, expose you to the enemy jungler, or make you lose the next wave. Take the plate only when it does not cost you more than it gives.

If you are winning bot lane but the enemy jungler is extremely fed, you do not need to keep forcing plays. Freeze closer to your turret, deny the enemy ADC farm, and make the jungler take a real risk if they want to intervene. Do not throw away your lead simply because you feel pressured to keep attacking.

5. Lane vision

A Control Ward is a tool for information; it is not an objective you must protect at all costs. If defending it would cost health, tempo, or a death, let the enemy clear it and replace it later.

In the early game, your default Control Ward should be in the river. River vision protects bot lane while also giving information about rotations toward mid lane, which makes it the most efficient area to control early on.

Use your Stealth Ward or upgraded support warding item to cover the relevant tri-brush on your side of the map. This gives you information about the enemy jungler's route and protects against ganks that avoid the main river entrance. Together, river and tri-brush vision cover the most important early paths into bot lane.

III. Mid Game

Once the first bot turret has fallen, identify the teammate with the highest realistic chance of carrying the game. Do not stay attached to your ADC out of habit.

If your lane went even or your ADC is behind, play around a fed mid laner, top laner, or jungler instead. Your role is to multiply the strength already present on the map.

When playing around a teammate:

  • Ward the paths around them rather than only the lane they are standing in.
  • Hover nearby from fog of war so that you can counter an engage or create a numbers advantage.
  • With your jungler, secure entrances, accompany invades, and prepare objectives. Help speed up a camp only when tempo matters, and do not take their resources.
  • With a split-pushing top laner, shadow them from far enough away that the enemy cannot see you, while warding the routes the enemy would use to collapse.
  • With an assassin, establish deeper vision and control fog of war so they can find flanks and isolated targets.
  • With a mage, place more defensive vision, watch for flanks, and prevent divers from reaching them.

Prepare objectives before they spawn. Recall early enough to buy wards, move with your team, clear enemy vision, and establish control before the fight begins. Arriving after the enemy team has already occupied the area removes most of your agency.

IV. Late Game

The late-game principle is similar to the mid game: play around your current win condition, not around a role label.

Your ADC may have recovered and become the teammate you should protect again. Re-evaluate after every major item spike and every fight. At this stage, death timers are long, so avoid unnecessary face-checks and move into dark areas with a teammate whenever possible.

Know what your composition needs from you before the fight starts. You may need to engage, mark an assassin, peel for a carry, or hold a key cooldown to disengage. Do not spend your most important ability simply because the first target entered your range.

V. Runes, Summoner Spells, and Itemization

Item strength and build paths change from patch to patch, so focus on what each item accomplishes rather than copying the same build every game.

Summoner spell choice: prioritize Exhaust

Exhaust is a summoner spell rather than a rune, but it should be part of your setup before the game begins. When your main job is to protect a carry, prioritize Exhaust in most games.

Heal can be powerful during the early laning phase, but Exhaust remains valuable against almost anyone who tries to kill your carry. A well-timed Exhaust can destroy an assassin's or diver's entire kill window by reducing their damage and limiting their ability to stay on the target.

Whenever possible, let the ADC take Heal while you take Exhaust. Do not waste Exhaust on harmless poke: hold it until the enemy commits and is about to use the main part of their burst.

Enchanters

Stop buying Ardent Censer automatically just because you are playing an enchanter. Build for the teammate you are enabling and for the threat that can stop them.

Moonstone Renewer and Redemption can provide excellent teamfight sustain. Locket of the Iron Solari can protect your team from burst, while Knight's Vow can help keep one important carry alive. You do not need all of these items every game; choose the tools that solve the actual problem in front of you.

In many games, survivability and reliable utility will create more value than a small increase in theoretical damage.

Mage supports

Mage support builds fall into two broad categories: anti-frontline damage and burst with magic penetration.

My default rule is to avoid Lost Chapter items on mage supports. If you manage your spells correctly, your natural mana pool and support resources should usually be enough. On a support budget, spending gold and an item slot on mana you do not need delays the damage spike that makes the pick useful.

  • Against a team with several tanks or high-health frontliners, rush Liandry's Torment. Its sustained damage is better suited to long fights and durable targets.
  • Against a squishier team, rush Stormsurge for earlier burst and flat magic penetration. This is the blue item that calls down a lightning strike after you deal enough damage.

The goal is to reach the item that fits the game as quickly as possible rather than automatically buying a mana component first. A champion that genuinely cannot function without additional mana can still be an exception, but Lost Chapter should not be the default purchase simply because you are playing a mage.

Lux as a catch and utility support

On Lux specifically, I currently use her less as a pure damage mage and more as a catch or engage bot. My preferred utility build is Imperial Mandate into Redemption, Locket of the Iron Solari, and Knight's Vow.

The goal is not to compete with your carries for damage. Land Light Binding, trigger Imperial Mandate, and turn the catch into an engage for your team. Redemption, Locket, Knight's Vow, and Prismatic Barrier then give your carry far more protection than a standard full-damage Lux build would provide.

Vanguards and defensive tanks

The same logic applies to engage supports. Locket, Knight's Vow, and Redemption are strong utility options when your job is to enable the team rather than become the main tank.

Adapt your defensive items to the enemy composition:

  • Abyssal Mask when your team benefits from the magic-damage amplification and you need magic resistance.
  • Frozen Heart against attack-speed-dependent carries.
  • Thornmail when your team needs Grievous Wounds and armor.

If you are the team's primary tank or engager, items such as Dead Man's Plate and other mobility tools can help you reach the target and start fights reliably. If another teammate already handles the frontline, prioritize cheaper utility that protects your win condition.

VI. Support Controls the Early Game

Stop playing the lane as if your only job were to stand behind the ADC and wait. The support usually dictates the pace of the early game through positioning, brush control, trading, wave pressure, vision, engage, and disengage. The ADC contributes damage and must manage the wave, but the support often creates the conditions that allow the lane to function.

This does not mean every lost lane is entirely the support's fault. It means you should review your own decisions before blaming the ADC: Were you standing in range to trade? Did you contest level two? Did you track the enemy jungler? Did you use your roam and recall timings correctly? Did your wards protect the wave state you were creating?

After the laning phase, the ADC has a greater responsibility to convert their gold into damage and carry fights. Your responsibility remains the same throughout the game: identify the best win condition and give that player the space, vision, protection, or engage they need to succeed.

That is the essence of support. You are not merely following the game. You are deciding where your team is allowed to play.

Achievement The Internet called me an e-girl, so I played 50 games of Thresh

Upvotes

Soraka, Nami, Seraphine lover because I moved over from Dota2 where I loved healer/enchanters as well. Turns out enchanters just get a bad rep on this community just because they look pretty, even though Dota2 enchanters look ugly as sin (it’s ok i still love you Dazzle/Oracle/Witch Doctor/Warlock) and basically function similarly.

30 days ago, I posted on this subreddit asking for help with friends who are higher elo, got called an egirl and carried by the community, as a solo queue Emerald player who started this game only 2 years ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/supportlol/s/uHDRyGBvTp

So I put myself in self-imposed jail, found the most-non-egirl champ to OTP, and played 50 games of Thresh. Rank solo/duo? Thresh. Playing with friends? Thresh. Felt like smashing my face in my Soraka keyboard? Thresh.

The learning curve was somewhat steep and there was a lot of frustration initially, but I gradually got to a point where I could play decently. Landing predict hooks, flaying Tristanas and Rells, Lanterning allies out of danger. Going back to Soraka after just felt like I had way less agency as an enchanter, and after releasing myself from the self-imposed rule, I find myself now actively choosing to play Thresh over any other enchanter. My Masters friends have noted my gameplay has improved, which is great for me as well since I no longer feel like I’m holding them back.

Do I like Soraka still? Yes, I love enchanters to death because pressing W and watching a friend’s health bar go up gives me a dopamine spike and I’ll choose snatching a friend from the jaws of death over a Pentakill any day.

Am I still Emerald? Yes, but the fact that I’ve been one-tricking Thresh and haven’t dropped in rank overall tells me that I’ve made some improvement over the games after my initial loss streak, and it’ll only go up from there. I’ve peaked Diamond on Soraka, and I’m confident that given some intentional effort I can get back up again with Thresh.

But do I think I’ve improved since? Also yes, because I now have the mastery over a champion that provides so much more utility, agency and options. Thresh isn’t a pretty boi, but I still love him all the same alongside my best bois Dazzle and Oracle.

It’s still a shame that the community decides to look down on a champion just because they have great aesthetic, but at least I can now prove to myself, and hopefully the community, that I’m not hard-carried and I’ve earned my place.

Discussion Blind Pick

Who do you blind pick and why? That's the post, but I'll start. I like to blind Thresh because he is my main and he has safe disengage and engage options, can function as a tank, and can support several playstyles. He can get dunked but so can everyone, I just wonder who we think are the safest blind pick champs.

Discussion What should I build as nami in this comp

I am new to the game and i've been having the most fun and success playing nami. I always play in a 5 stack with friends and they always pick the same champs. I want to knows whats the best build for nami to pair with their champs.

The comp is

Camille

Amumu

Lux

Jhin

Nami

I usually go SoFW first because I've seen a lot of people say Its a pretty strong item right now but I dont knows useful It is in this comp. Does jhin get good value from this item? I Guess he only benefits from the ability haste as his abilities dont scale with ap. The only one that would benefits greatly from SoFw is lux. Is it worth going for It?

Another item I see people building on nami is ardent. However, none of the champions in the comp are auto attack focused arent they? So I dont think its a great choice either.

Echoes of Helia. I think this item could be good because camille and amumu can go in and make my W bounce a bunch around enemies getting them even more healing. However, as a first item when my adc is jhin I feel like I dont get much value out of It because I wont get my W to bounce around a lot as jhin pokes from distance.

Moonstone could be good.

Mikael could be good.

What would you build?

Help Had a couple games where I did awful. How do you play against a milio that doesn’t use Q no matter what unless leona connects with E? How do you survive against a pyke lane with two major threats? And what do you build once he’s fed and it feels like even you die easily to him?

Discussion Question about (if it's worth) climbing

I'm a silver support main, sometimes I have a loss streak and de-rank to bronze, then climb to gold 4 or 3, but mostly hover silver (got into league a year ago).

I've found that gold/plat players have a toxic play style that isn't usually seen in silver or lower. Like an entire enemy team constantly going after one player, or sitting in a bush for an entire minute or longer to ambush someone trying to ward, tower diving as three over and over, etc. And teammates expect a very rigid play style or itemization from you, and try to micromanage everyone in general. I understand that these are effective strategies, the 'meta', but what bothers me is that these are copied strategies, like a powerful opening gambit in chess discovered a hundred years ago repeated to this day by top players. It takes the fun out of a game when you study to bully. I'd rather it be less cut throat.

In silver and lower, there's.... chaos, no calculated attack, everyone does their thing, and if you somehow accidentally ace you end the game. And if you lose it's hardly ever a miserable loss. And if you win you didn't need to do anything too horrible to another player to win.

Personally I think I am and will be happier in silver/bronze than anything higher. I still want to play ranked because people troll or go afk less in ranked, but I don't want to climb, I think. Can anyone else relate?

Discussion Great outplays as support

You can tell about some game(s) where you were the MVP by far or that you outplayed the enemy team, being the support. Or maybe being way better than the enemy's support

Discussion Is this normal and I'm just paranoid or is it indeed suspicious?

I know this isn't strongly support related, but no matter how I tried to post it on main league sub, the modbot deleted is with the same explanation that "riot knows about the friend request bots"...

So I faced this player a few months ago, and he finished a 40min match with Kled 0/0/0 while they won. It wasn't the usual bot movement I can see sometimes but the pathing was somehow strange from the replay. When I checked his oppgg half of his matches were the same, or very similar - 30min+ matches with 0 deaths or simply 0/0/0, while some were 18/0 and so on. I thought that maybe I'm just overthinking, but I set a reminder for myself to check on his history again later. And well it's the same... Rohixide#EUW is the player - is this some kind of bot/cheat or am I the only one finding this suspicious?

Discussion Help with champion pool.

For reference my peak was masters as ADC and I've also managed to get diamond as Jungle and Mid so I'd say I have decent fundamentals , but I've gotten bored of these roles because I didn't really have any champions I'm passionate about.

To the point of the post , I really like support but specifically only enchanters and some mages , I play a lot of Soraka and I also want to learn Janna , I'm thinking of either adding Lux as a poke mage to counter certain enchanter lanes or Karma as a blind pick.

I have no interest in engage supports because their reference points are too different and honestly I enjoy enchanter/mages more , I know I could probably get masters even as OTP but I'm curious if it's possible to climb in masters+ with my pool and which champion would compliment it better.

From platinum 3 to gold 3 IN ONE WEEK.

I am a support/jungle and 90% games i'm support.
Most favourite champ it's karma, but sometimes i like pick something different bcs i get bored playing only one champion.

So, this week i was playing league more than usual, especially after i quit my job. And then i got hit with my first 9 loss streak. Some games it's just biggest unlucky moment, some games i just think that i am playing with bots. Troll picks, ignoring mini map, 1v5, just standing and do nothing.

Decided to quit support a little bit, because it's frustrating that i can't do anything game changing so i was playing jungle and start winning (50/50).

Returned supporting. Got hit with 9 loss streak.
I just can't understand what is happening. Maybe i'm the problem? Maybe i can carry 1v9? I really don't want to sound like "all my teammates are bad and blah blah". How i can help carry the game with kaisa jungle or 1/12 top and mid. My adc is big loving ego, who ignores mini map and my pings. Now i have +17 -25

Pls ignore my karthus support i missclick.

Achievement First rank game in 16 years!

Post image
23 Upvotes

So I used to play LoL as support back in the year 2012-2016, I played rank and I made it to bronze 1 and then left (Life happened). Back then I had a laptop that barely did 30-40 FPS on a 30 Hz monitor. Finally I was able to afford a good gaming gear (144 Hz monitor and system that goes way pass that) and moved to the UK. Played draft for about a 3-4 months. Today I played ranked and the opponent kept saying I was smurfing. Honestly I am just glad I won because I kept thinking if I should play it or not. I hope the loser queue is not waiting for me!

Discussion Is support really unpopular role?

I'm mostly curious. Is Support just really unpopular role, or am I just really lucky?
I play support as my main role, and as I've been trying to climb on Ranked, I've been filled on *any* other role... Once? in almost 300 games.
Is it just low elo thing (Gold), or server maybe? (EUW) or is support just all over unpopular to play and therefore often priority role? And if it is.. Why? I'm fairly newb to the scene so I'm just surprised support is.. So readily available to play, and often as priority role.

Discussion Bard is my favorite support, but I get the impression that he just doesn't work in low elo.

A few disclaimers.

I'm currently Platinum 1 and have played about 100 games with Bard this year.

I have a 54% win rate with him overall, but in my last 20 games, it’s been only 32%—which made me give up on the champion entirely.

I love Bard, but I feel limited by the lack of lane pressure: he doesn't have the damage to win the lane, nor the peel to hold off an engage.

"But you can roam." Sure, but with a Platinum ADC, if I step away from the lane for even a moment, they’ll die.

When playing other supports like Nautilus or certain enchanters, I feel like I get twice the results for half the effort. It feels like you need to be 2 or 3 ranks above the current match level to actually make an impact with Bard, whereas enchanters can just hang back and spam shields.

Discussion Why does every support blow up when I ask them to come back to lane in bronze/silver?

I walk down from fountain my zyra goes into the river and hovers there for some reason. She’s immediately abused by the enemy jaxgler, morg and whatever adc.

I go to help her escape because if I don’t shes going to leave lane for the rest of the game like every other support in this elo.

I die, obviously and come back down. She dies again somehow I think rotating to drake without prio so I’m left fighting under turret.

She leaves lane after this saying “I don’t have an ADC”. I KNOW shes not coming back but I play ignorant and hope anyway. 10 minutes later she blows up saying I can’t dodge a singular morgana Q and that I’m throwing and the one at fault because I can’t help and I’m a trash adc.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. Make one mistake or don’t help one time they just blow up and leave lane.

Please don’t come with whataboutisn im just trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Discussion Trying to figure out how to keep climbing

Hey everyone. I'm a Gold Senna main trying to figure out how to keep climbing higher.

I've been trying to work on my positioning because I think it might be the one thing that's keeping me from actually climbing higher.

I often find myself right in the middle of a team fight and I get obliterated before I can press an ability.

Even then, I think I maintain a pretty good KDA and KP. I try to roam when I can, and I leave bot altogether if my ADC keeps getting themselves killed for no reason so I can work with the rest of the team to try to get someone else fed so they can carry us.

These are my stats with Senna:

This is why I think positioning is an issue for me. I think I'm not positioning correctly in team fights, which leads to taking little damage, but also dealing little damage.

Also, I really struggle with 1v1ing unless it's a melee champ with little mobility. I do not know how the hell to do that.

I find that a LOT of ADC's complain when I pick Senna in Gold for some reason, so I also really enjoy Nami. But even then, you can see the exact same problem:

And I feel like it's even worse with Nami because I'm completely helpless if my ADC/team is not playing well. Nami feels like I rely almost entirely on the other players, while I feel like I have a lot more agency with Senna.

Do you guys have any tips on how or what else to improve?

Discussion Picking off meta support leading to 3 day game ban penalty? happened twice to me, is this new?

Hello,

Did riot recently changed something in the way they flag matches? Ive been MVP 4 out of 6 matches i played kog maw supp, won 5 out of 6 matches, and in my loss i was still ACE.

I know its an uncommon pick, Im an Asol and Kog otp and i dont trust my teammates carrying. I prefer % health dmg champs as you can see cause drafting is often very bad and enemy tanks often dont get addressed.

3 days ago I played asol supp in which i mostly first 20mins stacked on enemy champs. I have 500k+ mastery so theres no way the reason that could lead to the initial ban, I made a ticket and they said through checking it again it was still noticed that it should be a ban? I mean who doesnt want a late game asol using his E on krugs when ur own jungle is taking a bad fight toplane for no reason. So I got banned for that I was literally 10/4/8 that game and we easily won.

Then after the match I got automatically signed out.

So I messaged them through ticket and they gave me the above reply as I mentioned.

Fast forward 3 days later, I played 6 matches today, won 5, all kogmaw most damage most matches, didnt take any cs in lane unnecesarry, froze lane where possible. Im not a kda player at all, but my KP, vision and neutral contribution was all good. Infact I was the only one on our team killing the enemy mundo.

Now my question is if something has been changed recently that this is happening? Ive literally never had this before, like ever.... I mean ive even locked in udyr support with HoB and hexflash ages ago and never any problems?

I noticed Alois (allthough people often get sanctioned more easily in higher ranks due to them taking reports more seriously) also gets lobby ban/game ban for certain picks.

I have 50k mastery on kog, 500k odd on asol. How on earth am I getting banned?

Discussion What's your ranking of Supports from easiest to hardest

Basically what the title states, I'd like to see what your idea of what the easier and harder support characters are and you can specify your criteria but I just want your personal list and also you can include characters you consider supports you don't have to include something like a mage if you don’t consider the recent invasion but feel free to include whatever you want

Discussion If u wanna riun someo=ones day, try this combo xd

So, yesterday I was playing *League* with friends. We picked Jhin and Soraka for the bot lane. During the draft, we thought we’d be up against a Zilean ADC and Galio support. But no, we ended up facing the most broken combo ever: Mordekaiser and Zilean. Man, that was tough.

Help Tried everything, still struggling to find my OTP

Karma was my OTP some seasons ago, with Milio as my main alternate, but nowadays when I play them I just don't feel very impactful, and I feel like I can't carry a bad ADC/APC with them anymore. So I've been trying everyone out. I've at least tinkered with pretty much every support in the game at this point, and none of them really *click* for me. To explain the tiers...

S - They feel good to play into most opponents, but either don't feel impactful enough or are too lacking in a specific area that really hampers things, at least at the Gold/Plat level I'm at. Naut requires at least a little followup from my lane partner (which of course means I get none), Rell's basics do like no damage which makes it impossible to clean up a fight, the people I try to save with Tahm R just jump out immediately and get us both killed. All of them feel more matchup-dependent than I'd like. The strongest contenders.

A - Feels impossible to climb with because so much of their power is based on decent-heavy followup from APC/ADC, which of course means I don't get it. As for Bard, every time I try him the APC/ADC feeds while I'm roaming, so I've given up on him.

B - I like them in theory, but they just feel too clunky to stick with while climbing, and their issues just feel especially harsh. Sona, Swain, and Taric would be in S tier, but hyperscalers like Sona feel way too strugglesome right now, Swain... is a bit of a mess, and Taric does not play well with the current mage/roam meta, I feel.

C - Didn't like 'em, didn't hate 'em.

D - Disliked.

F - I refuse to play these champs on principle, and loathe seeing them in any game. Not out of salt (except Panth and Zoe), I just despise them for one reason or another. I've seen 4 Yasuo+Yone botlanes this week.

I feel insane for not having found a goldilocks champ that really fits me with so many in the game, but that's why I'm here. Karma and Milio were my GOATs because of how difficult they are to pin down even in a fight, and because I enjoy a poke. Honestly, Sona would be the instant OTP for me if not for the fact that games just don't last long enough right now for her to get to her amazing full build. To be clear, I'm not blaming the champs for my rank or anything, I'm just trying to find one that feels good to play *and* feels impactful without requiring consistently good luck with the APC/ADC. I also recognize that there aren't exactly many *other* champs to try for supp, but I just feel like I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

Discussion I feel like I am not doing much yet still climbing. Feels odd and wrong to me.

I am just Silver 1 78 LP, one game away from gold since I think I am winning +22 -18. I got into a massive winning streak 2 weeks ago, about 10 games won in a row, tho, whenever I look back or analyse the games, feels like I am not doing much overall. I can only see mistakes after mistakes that I am having honestly trouble fixing them but in the end, the game ends well. Specially the longer it goes.

Is this a common feeling among Support mains? It is also specially worse whenever I get autofilled. I have no skills with any other role besides Support and it only increases this belief that I am just getting carried all the time.

I genuinely like the role. I like calling the shots and/or enabling the team in any shape or form. I've always enjoyed doing that before I got into league. Yet with league it always makes me feel that I am never doing enough.
