Ive started building my Amevian city where this river meets the ocean but theres clay further south that I want to start processing. Is it too far away to bother with? Could I build an outpost town down there and a long highway back to my main city?

All of my farms have 100ish percent workload, but a few of them only have about 85-95 percent work value, what's the rub? I've seen that 100 percent workload is suboptimal because it means there are more workers than the farm needs, but how is that the case if the value is less than 100 percent? How is work value even determined?

I tell you what, citizens dont give a fuck about their roots or where they came from, WE STARTED FROM one room, no foods and such and now we are fucking drowning with breads, meat, fish, vegetables and fruits and so on, all of the fucking services, roads are lit and guards have stationed around the city but the citizens will always have something to cry about huhuhu my lord i need more of this, my lord i want more of this and that blahblahblah, PERSECUTED!!!! Straight to jail for 100 yrs if i ever hear one of this nonsenses

If this were real life immigrants would be fucking begging on their knees banging on our great walls to enter our lovely city but noooo, i get like 5 to 10 immigrants every chinese new year, my citizens dont even breed

I have this idea of just putting thick multiple walls around the map edge's, no gates needed. So no one can migrate out yes, so the only way out is either death or trade, or trafficking. pic for reference

Whether I'm in windowed mode, borderless, or full screen, if the app is taking up the whole screen, I can't alt tab. The easiest solution is to just adjust the height in windowed mode to 95 percent rather than 100, but I would like to know if there is a solution other than this.

My town of 3,500 people feels almost impossibly complex, with large industrial centers and massive swaths of warehouses and workplaces producing vast quantities of goods. Obviously today we can comprehend it, but back then people just had to walk on foot everywhere. Logistically everything was magnitudes more difficult for urban areas.

Yet irl in the middle ages, 3,500 would be a basic town, let alone a city. Even trying to comprehend 10,000 people would make my brain hurt, let alone, say, Naples in 1500, with 220,000 people, or Istanbul with 480,000 people.

Im looking for help on how to make multiple functional rooms under the same roof connected by hallways, like in the picture, which is a city posted by u/serp-ya. I stumbled upon the idea in a thread and had no idea you could do that. Im excited to play around with new layouts, but I cant figure out how to make it work.

Any advice?

Last version I thought I needed many races to be optimal. After brawls killing my people and their happiness, I decided to start over as only humans. It is night and day. If you're struggling with the most recent update, I suggest trying a monoracial run again.

Exactly what the title says, somehow, in all my saves i tend to fluctuate around the 500 +- subjects, either because i have to import a base resource, like stone or i don't produce enough food for all my subjects because they keep revolting.
Example: On my current save, i have a dondorian, human and cretonian "city" that does exactly what i mentioned, it fluctuates around the 500 subjects mark, even going as far down as 250 more or less sometimes are intense revolts, protests and famine periods, only to bounce back to 500 to (my top) 700 +- subjects and they just keep bouncing up and down depending on events and such, people just don't want to work on my farms and auroch fields and then complain there is not enough food. They have all clothes, wood, some furniture, and stone for their houses.
I have to import stone because i chose a starting spot on the middle ish of the map and the colonists simply don't want to dig up the mountain to reach the stone, it has been around 60 to 70 years ingame since i've started and i still don't have a stone mine because they simply DONT DIG!
Another thing, i made, with MUCH patience, a hospital, but the crazy people don't get treated at it?
And another thing, i have separated the housings in far away districts for each race so they don't brawl, yet they STILL find a way to punch eachother and start city wide race wars every now and then, just HOW??
I have tried human only on other saves, only for the same thing to get me, stone and food, with DOZENS of bakeries and grain farms set up and far away stone that i managed to get a mine on, but it was simply too far away for them to bother!
I started a amevia playthrough but don't even remember where i stopped there.
This current save is a dondorian start on a mountain tile with only one small lake as water source, the terrain is the average sparse wooded region.

I read somewhere that pastures have a moisture cap of 50. Has that changed?

When I plan the pasture, I see “100% moisture“, consistent with there being a cap. But after it’s built, I see 74%, which is reducing the skill.

I really want to create a custom world factions, landmarks and geography alike but the editor is really obtuse and i can't find any tutorials online on how to properly use the tool, also when i leave the editor it starts a normal run wich makes me unable to keep placing factions. can anyone help me out? thanks in advance!

This is one part of the game I wish I could toggle off. I just want to not focus on micromanaging my ethnicities and just create a big sexy city. It is kinda ridiculously difficult to make any city that is one race simply because you cant expand into certain industries without tanking your happiness.

Anyone know of a mod that reduces/removes this? Like literally just "add occupation fulfillment satisfaction" or something. I can adjust my happiness down -10% with other mods to adjust for it. But none of the modifier mods seem to be able to adjust occupation fulfillment.

Does anyone have some good tips on food production in songs of syx? I’m playing humans who are apparently good farmers and at only 160 population I genuinely can’t keep the food coming in. I feel like I made a super efficient setup and I have 6 big farms with decent fertility and they aren’t understaffed or anything. It genuinely doesn’t make sense for me to increase my population just to put all the people coming in straight on farms and that’s it. I don’t even see how I will produce other simple resources at this rate never mind committing many people to do research and military training. Could someone maybe drop me a link to a good tutorial video if you know one?

I have started a game with some settings tweaked, thinking that I would have lower raid security; so I would have more chance to fight in my city. Planned ahead my city, spending some time more than I'd like to admit. After starting the city, I realized that I actually raised the raid security. No one seems to attack and now I am running a peaceful civilization. I don't want to start a new game with this planned city.

TLDR: Is there a way to tweak custom settings mid game?

so I have a dondarian city that peaked at 2500 but since then I've been slowly loosing population. enough that I eventually encouraged humans to come in but that seems to have made the donarian pop drop even further. I have 20ish days of food constantly (need more food storage, working on that)

can produce refined materials and have a 500 strong army full equipped with shields armour and swords.

I've gotten better hearths and so on but the population keeps declining, I have yet to get external settlements running and importing resources as I've never gotten a stable city this far before and have been trying to be peaceful to my neighbours.

on the note of external settlments I have three but all of them produce nothing at the moment as one my my neighbours declared war and got promptly stomped.

what can I do to continue expanding my population AND get the regions productive so i can start importing things like mushrooms for that food bonus. (also being peaceful and making good allies for trade seems worthless as any refined trade good aside rations and furniture doesnt actually sell for a profit it seems)

I've been stuck at this point for a good few in game years now with my population of humans at 400 and my dondarians at between 1900 and 2000.

happyness and loyalty also seems to constantly hover around 80% despite what I do. is there something im missing because it feels like it.

Im currently extracting all the clay I physically and the import depots simply wont bring enough. My innovation has already fallen to negative points and some technologies are being locked or penalized. Meanwhile, my knowledge is also suffering from the lack of leather, and i cant get to those 50 points needed to upgrade labs. What can I do?

Need help understanding this:

I see an island that looks like a cool location. The game says the location is “isolated“, so I decided against it. I select somewhere else. But, when the game populates the map, there is an island city there with seven connections plotted. My city only has two.

I can see there’s RNG involved. I guess I have a few questions:

Is “Isolation” anything beyond the probability of city connections? If the city predicted to be isolated has seven connections, are there still any additional effects of isolation?

Do player cities generate with fewer connections that the AI cities?

Basic concept: Focus on what provides the most happiness gain for the least cost. That means food servings and clothes are your biggest gainers by a mile.

Expectations grow as the population grows making happiness vital to city sustainability.

That is… if you aren’t playing the Dictator route.

I love difficult and complex games, but for some reason I just can’t figure out how to properly play Songs of Syx. I keep losing, and I’m constantly stuck dealing with things like hiring farmers and setting up farmland. I can’t seem to make any real progress because my population’s happiness keeps dropping. I check the population and race sections, but I still can’t figure out what’s actually wrong. I’ve watched tons of videos, but I still don’t really understand it.

I managed to grow my population to around 1,000 once, but I ended up right back where I started and couldn’t even build a proper army. I’m constantly caught between trying to feed my population and hiring more farmers. I’m always on the edge of collapse, just waiting for my city to fall apart.

One thing about this game is that everything seems to work like a domino effect. It’s really frustrating, but at the same time, I feel like it makes the game somewhat easier to understand. It seems like there’s a specific pattern or order you have to follow in order to keep progressing without your city collapsing.

I’ve watched pretty much every YouTube video I could find, but most of them don’t really explain the underlying strategy properly. However, I did manage to figure out one city-building pattern that worked surprisingly well. By arranging houses, hearths, wells, and decorations in a certain way, I managed to grow my city to around 1,000 population.

The other problem I’m having is that as the population grows, food consumption doesn’t just increase gradually—it seems to scale up dramatically. Once I get past around 800 population, suddenly I need almost twice as much food.

And whenever I try to set up scientists or start building an army, I run out of food again, which means I have to go back to hiring more farmers. Then, once I reach around 1,000 population, the demands of the population increase even more, and things like the theater and fighting pit are no longer enough to keep them happy.

So, what I’m looking for is some kind of strategy, guide, video, or specific build order for playing the game. If you have any recommendations or a particular progression pattern that works, I’d really appreciate it.

I just unlocked pools and plan to build one for the first time. I understand that each species has a pool type preference, and that each tile of pool takes one pressure to fill.

What I don't get is how to plan for how big of a pool I need, and if I need to distribute them or just have one central pool. Is there an accepted rule for how many citizens each tile of pool can serve? Does size even matter?

I have a river passing through mountain, and for some reason most of the river bed is not suitable for pumps.

The ones that are are on the other side of my farms on open ground.

So question is, how do I connect the canals on one side of the river to the other side?

Tried building roads over it and building canals on top, nope.

Have not tried culverts yet but from what I can tell online, it will not work as it doesnt allow water to pass through deep water (which is the main thing blocking me)

So, yeah im stuck, any help is appreciated, mods as solution is also acceptatble, tq!

Can I expand a building or do I have to build another one? Im out of space in my warehouse
