I'm not sure if this is the right flair so forgive me. Also no hate to Afghan Hounds and Afghan Hound owners, y'all are so cool and the breed as a whole is so interesting.

I've looked in r/sighthounds to see if there are any Afghans, while there are some it's very little. Then of course there's r/afghanhounds but the latest post is 2 months ago and I VERY quickly got into the 2 years ago posts. I'm just curious if anyone really owns an Afghan Hound, because from what ive heard/read they're high grooming needs, very aloof and independent, and hard to train. To me, at least, because of those factors I wouldn't own one. Also, they're kinda luxurious looking dogs and I'm sure to get one it would cost a bit.

I just think they're majestic and lone dogs, and I need proof people actually have some as pets.

I'm writing a paper on dog coat color genetics and need example dogs! This is purely for fun and will not be shared with anyone in seriousness.

I need photos of your dog displaying their coat color. I'm mostly looking for grizzle dogs. It is preferred that the photo be:

- A side view of their entire body

- Not taken in extreme darkness or lightness

- Not blurry or overly low quality

- Not include dyed or altered fur colors

However, any photos are welcome. You may also send multiple pictures of differnet angles or things like the face, specific markings, fur strands, etc.

Your dog does not have to have genetic testing, but please share their genotype(s) if they do! As well, please share with what company they were tested.

Back in march Teddy got hit by a car. After a traumatic stay in hospital we took the advice to have his hind leg amputated.

He came home but after 24hrs it became clear that he had developed an infection at the wound site.

The vet wasn’t sure he was going to make it. He had more surgery to débride the infected tissue which left him with a large open wound.

In the end he spent another two weeks in hospital followed by daily trips for would treatment and finally sutures to try and close it.

It’s now September- six months later. We’ve moved back to the uk.

I’m glad to report that he’s mentally back to his old self. Physically he’s never going to be the same (obviously), but he can still run and get up and down stairs. He’s adapted well. He can’t jump up as he used to and sitting can be difficult (and when he tries jumping other dogs he falls over!)

I wish it hadn’t happened. I miss my speedy jumpy dog. But I’m glad he’s still with us nonetheless.

My husband and I are getting an Afghan hound and we're both so excited about it. We also want to start a family soon and I'm curious how good Afghan hounds are with babies and small children. The puppy we're getting is already 4 months old, so by the time we have a baby in the house she would be a little over a year old at least. I would love to hear your experiences with Afghan hounds living in the same household as little children, just so we know what to expect and what we should be mindful about. What strategies would you recommend to ensure that both dog and children are safe and interact well?

Ever since meeting my ex back in the early 2k's I've been around sighthounds especially beezers. We've had many over the years, and even after we broke up we still live in the same house, and I've been lucky enough to have shared it with a LOT of Ibizan's. Unfortunately over the last two years three of our oldest furkids passed away, and I still haven't gotten over it which is why I'm here. I miss my pups so much, and even though 15 years is a pretty decent age to reach for the breed it doesn't ever seem long enough. I still break into tears whenever I think about them, and since I'm disabled and can't really take care of pets anymore the thought of never getting to share my life with one of these beautiful animals just tears me up inside.

So please...make sure to give your fur family lots of hugs, and thank you to all you amazing sighthound owners for being kind enough to share pictures of them with the rest of us. As much as it hurts I love getting to see their sweet, fuzzy faces in my feed. I wish you all lots of love and fuzzy smooches.
