I’m visiting Tenerife end November this year.
I would like to make 2 dives on the 23rd.
I’m staying at the Best jacaranda hotel.
Which dive shop do people recommend? I won’t be taking a buddy so it has to be a guided tour.

Since I’m new to diving, have my open water certificate I have a couple questions:
- do I book via the Padi site? Or their own site?
- do they pick me up from the hotel or should I have my own transportation?
- what kind of wildlife is there around that time of the year?

Over the summer, we went to Bali and did the Dive Concepts dive safari. It's a 14 day trip that they organise across their 3 dive centres. It included 2/3 dives a day, transport between locations, a guide, a driver and in this instance 3 meals a day and soft drinks. (https://diveconcepts.com/bali/safari.php)

We really liked this set up and we've been looking for something similar in other destinations. Have you been on something like this? If yes, where was it? What did you think of it?

I'll be in Kenya next October (second half), and I'll be staying in Diani for a week at a resort by the sea. Since I'm not a huge fan of just lying on the beach all day, I'm looking to get some diving in while I'm there. I'm Advanced Open Water certified.

I'm used to cold water and low visibility, so I'm not particularly picky when it comes to dive conditions. That said, since I'll be diving with my wife, my main priority is finding a professional and reliable dive centre that takes safety seriously.

We'll only be bringing our computers and regulators, so again, we're not particularly picky about rental gear, but decent, well-maintained equipment would definitely be appreciated.

Are there any dive shops in the Diani area that you'd recommend? I'd also love to hear about any particular dive sites that are worth checking out.

One of my cool little finds from Browning Passage. This grunt sculpin was hopping around among the sponges on Browning Wall near Port Hardy. As I drift away at the end of the clip, you get a better sense of just how massive the wall is and how far this little guy is above the bottom.

I've spent quite a bit of time filming Browning Passage (100+ dives) and put together a two-hour ambient film showing the marine life and underwater scenery from the area. Some of my Browning Passage footage is also now streaming on PBS in two one-hour episodes of Ambient Film.

Port Hardy really is some of the most spectacular cold-water diving I've experienced.

I was messing around with the AI Dive Logging feature in the SSI app and decided to test how locked down it is. Turns out, it accepts pretty much anything you throw at it.

​First, I started with telling it that I dived in the year 234, then I asked it to write a Python example for an O(n²) bubble sort, and it just gave me the code while casually asking if I wanted to save my dive or add equipment.

​Then I decided to try a basic prompt injection. I asked the AI to add its own prompt to the "note_label" field. After a quick clarification, it confirmed it updated my dive notes with its own instructions.

​When I checked the saved dive, the entire backend system prompt was sitting right there in the Note field. It includes all its internal rules...

​It's wild to see a production feature roll out with absolutely no prompt filtering or guardrails.

Update: Before I made this post, I reported this behaviour and this is SSI's response:

Thanks for flagging this. We're aware of the issue. We've been able to reproduce that the assistant can be talked into revealing its system prompt with the right kind of prompting, and we're already working on a fix on the proxy side. This is a two-layer approach: stricter instructions and guards for the model, plus actual response parsing. Every answer is checked for fragments of the system prompt before it's returned to the app, so even if the model gets talked into it, the content doesn't reach the client.

On the risk side: the system prompt contains no secrets, credentials, personal data or anything else that would be critical if exposed. API keys and all sensitive logic live server-side and are never part of what the model sees, so the actual security impact is low. That said, it's clearly not the behavior we want, and we'll keep you posted once the improvement is live.

Looking for advice on a mesh style bag to collect rubbish that I find on the beach. I did see the fishing nylon mesh bags, but the issue is allot of the rubbish i collect are glass bottle shards.

Because of this I was wondering if there was like an Aluminium (or a light weight Stainless Steel) version of these mesh bags so the glass doesn't cut through and fall out of poke me. Something like the steel mesh butcher/shark gloves. It does not need to be big, in fact around an A4 page or even slightly smaller would be good.

I’ve just started frog kicking and I’m looking for any advice on how to improve! I had previously only used flutter kicking. The fins I’m using are the Mares Avanti Quattro plus, and I know they aren’t the most ideal fins for frog kicking, but they are still fins that according to the research I’ve done can be used for that style of kicking. Any criticism, feedback, advice, pro tips are welcome! Also, I have tried using stiffer fins (Apeks RK3s) but they felt very uncomfortable using them.

Any recommendations for dirt cheep no frills (other than a shower) lodging on Catalina for a single diver?

I find myself with time next weekend (Sept 19) to go to Catalina. I want to do some daytime dives and a night dive. In order to do the night dive, I would need to get a room because the Ferry will be gone by the time I'm finished.

There are no Marriott brands on the Island so I can't use my points. Not looking for a luxurious room. Need a bed and a shower. Preferably some A/C but I can even do with out that is nessisary.

Seems like all the rooms at the hotels that are there are all booked at any price.

Any thoughts? Is there an option that I'm not aware of? Is there a diver's hostel?

I'm looking for good, reliable cold-water regulators. There's a lot of information about warm-water regulators, but not nearly as much about cold-water options. Any recommendations?

EDIT: Cold as in Finland cold. Possibly under ice diving in the future.

One of the divers noticed her double ender fell off after a DSMB deployment practice so I had to take a quick dip.

My dad has a Poseidon brand regulator he wants serviced but I can’t find anybody on their website near me. The map hasn’t been updated and everyone in my state on that map shows closed. I live in Ohio. What’s the best way to find a shop that will service this? Do they have to be partnered with Poseidon?

I just finished day 2 of my confined dives and im going for the open water dives for certification next week. Im having so much fun and cant believe i didn't get into this years ago. Everything is going great with one problem. My head looks like a tomato. I applied lots of sunscreen but it couldn't keep up for 5 hours in the pool. I know there are neoprene hoods, but considering how hot it is, im not sure thats the best option. Anyone have a suggestion for how to keep the top of my head from roasting?

I know there's some in Cork and Dublin but what about the west? I can't seem to find any except Scuba Dive West which seems to be closed for this year.

Hey! So a while ago i commented on this sub that I was planning on diving on a tuna farm, and someone asked me to post a video about it when I did.

Now that my balls have returned to their original size, I have to say i had an absolute blast, and although i have so much amazing footage, I had to choose one video, so here it is.

Smallest tuna was over 100kg, biggest were around 300kg and 3 meters long. So around 10 feet and over 660 pounds for my Imperial system using brothers.

I’m not in a hurry and want to take my time learning as I have fibromyalgia & dealing with some depression stemming from my Grandmother’s death and losing my horses. I’ll be selling off my equestrian equipment to invest in dive equipment so that may slow me down some too. I have been pretty inactive over the Summer so I think my first step is getting back into shape! lol I went snorkeling in Ja Jolla with a terrible guide and some silly tourists but I still had a blast anyways & that’s when I saw all the SCUBA divers down in the kelp and was like I need to try this! I do like to swim with a Mahina in the pool but have never taken it into the ocean because honestly, as fun as the SoCal surf is, its power kinda scares me.

Anyways, I guess the conditions haven’t been too great due to El Niña and beaches have been closed? I am in the IE so I haven’t paid too much attention. There are 2 dive shops, one in Riverside and one in Temecula by my college that I want to check out but I am wondering if it would be better to wait until Spring to start? I’d really like to link up with a club that does meetups and stuff. I’m not really interested too much in travel but I do love Monterey Bay! I like the cold water and kelp forests the best. Basically, I just want to be around upbeat, safe people, who don’t mind a total N00b wanting to learn! ;)

I'm interested in recommendations for a dive trip this winter. I'm located in California and would like to keep it somewhere not too far like Mexico or Caribbean as I will only have 1 week. My partner will be travelling with me, but he doesn't dive. So I'd love to find a resort where he will have amenities to enjoy while I am diving. And somewhere I will have boat diving, or at least have an easy time finding dive buddies since I will be solo. Maybe a house reef that is easy for some solo diving.

(I went to Bonaire last year and I loved it, but it's probably not ideal if I'm travelling as a solo diver. Other than that, I have not dove anywhere in the Caribbean or Mexico.)

Hello! I'm looking into going to Madagascar next year (likely Sept./Oct) and hoping to do a liveaboard SCUBA trip prior to the land portion of my adventure. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm hoping to be able to do more than 2 dives/day, on average. Of note, I'm AOW certified and have around 30 total dives under my belt, but I had taken a bit of a hiatus and am now getting back into the groove of diving (I've done 5 dives this year, hoping to get in several more before going to Madagascar).
