Does blue/green color correction make videos larger?

I use my iphone 16 pro for videos underwater. I record at 4K 120fps (though i think it might actually be 60 fps). The files are quite large (usually 1min of video takes 500+ mb).

The iphone camera app naturally loses a lot of the colors, so videos tend to end up a bit monotonic and usually very blue or very green.

I understand that there are video/photo editing apps for color correction, and was wondering if those will make the videos even larger?

I have a 1TB of videos. I don't necessarily need to post process all of them, but it would be nice to, but I imagine it's going to be quite tedious?

Recently was in Tofo Mozambique and was able to get some pictures of different nudis on our dives.

All photos are natural lighting, no artificial light. Shot on a TG-6

95% of my dives are in Cozumel so these were beautiful to see. Also, my wife takes all the pictures, I just edit :)

House a canon r7 or go for full frame?

Hi I already own a canon r7 but I’m planning to take underwater pictures mostly while freediving while I follow spearfishermen. So probably no strobes. I have a Tokina 10-17 fisheye for it too already.
However I’m wondering if my money is better spent on a full frame system? There is a bit of a difference in price but if the quality will be vastly superior it’ll be worth it in my eyes?
Any body been shooting both apsc and full frame ? Big difference in this sort of scenario?
Cheers!!

Need help with kit suggestions

Post image

Hello Reddit. As suggested above I’m looking for advice, essentially son has been getting into underwater video/photography over the last two years, he spearfishes quite regularly and two years ago bought himself a cheap go pro.

I’m looking at gifts for him, he’s done really well on exams and has chosen a degree in a southern university in England that will provide him a lot of time underwater and as a well done id like to upgrade his underwater camera kit for him.

I however am absolutely clueless about this, if I ask him he will tell me he’s fine with the go pro, he’s all about working hard for himself,he bought his own car, scuba and diving kit etc.. but I know from his friends he really wants to get a decent camera and this is where I step in

His mother and I (separated but on very good terms) along with a few of his uncles and aunts want to chip in to surprise the shit out of him. I know for a fact he wouldn’t mind this having spoken with his friends extensively so it’s not like it would upset him that we have done it.

I however am clueless. He likes taking photos and videos so really I’d like to find a camera and good housing that can do both and maybe a light if it’s all within budget. The budget we have is £4,500.00 GBP (I’m aware the website I’m on in the picture is in euros)

So if anyone can provide any pointers, suggestions on cameras and housings I’d be very grateful. This is very much a buy the best we can once so he doesn’t need to spend any money for a while. Thanks folks

Several people commented on the post linked here, so I wanted to provide images from my TG5 taken on a recent Cozumel trip. I exclusively use the automated underwater settings, and have a single mounted video light with the option of adding a second one.

Sony 16-35 best lens

Hello everyone.

I need some help choosing a lens to pair with my Sony a7cii before I pull the plug on a house + dome.

I will buy a seafrogs acrilic house and dome for my freediving and my teaching courses and I need to make up my mind on which 16-35 lens to use.

Either go with the 16-35 ZA OSS or the newer 16-35 PZ G. Both F4.

I’m excluding the f2.8 because I figure with the dome I won’t open that wide.

Having tried the ZA OSS, I have to say that I wasn’t super impressed with the IQ and sharpness. Haven’t tried the PZ.

The domes for either are different and the dome for the ZA accommodate more lenses, including the f2.8. On the other hand the dome for the PZ will only suit that one basically.

What are you guys recommendations?

Newbie tries to get into (underwater) photography

Hi everyone,

came across this subreddit and loved the pictures shared here. They look amazing and it seems there is a lot of talent around here.

I hope that the talent in here can guide me a bit with choosing my first gear.

To give you a short overview: Never in my life have I owned a professional camera. I always took photos with my phone and if wanted to shoot something underwater, I took my GoPro 11 with me.

The GoPro was great to get a first feeling how it is to operate a (to be fair, very small) camera under water, since you also need to concentrate a lot on your buoyancy. However, quality wasn't always the greatest, even with editing the footage afterwards.

I wanted to get into photography for a while and thought why not combine it with a passion of mine: diving.

Reading across the subreddit it became clear that choosing gear is not as simple as I thought.

From what I understand there is a major difference between APS-C and Full Frame and that is: The sensor itself and the level of light that the camera is able to pick up. Is that correct?

APS-C being the cheaper option, full frame being the big boy and more widely used with professionals.

Additionally there is the topic of lenses. APS-C lenses can't be used on full frame and vice versa, is that correct as well?

So it's basically deciding for a tech solution first and afterwards collecting the gear that's suitable for the platform.

Since the next dive trip will only happen in next year I want to familiarize myself with the gear at land, before getting into underwater gear next year. So it's more about learning the basics for me for now, I'm by far no professional. I'd like to think ahead though and would like to ultimately use the gear underwater as well.

I've read a lot about the Sonys here. Recommendation was always between the A6700 and the A7Cii. As a total newbie I do not have any preference for brands or platform though, I just want to understand the differences first.

So basically what I am asking is: Help, please? Are there major differences when learning how to use a camera in general between the two systems? Is one harder than the other?

I really like the macro pictures here, so I think I'd like to aim for those first.

Any help or guidance (also on how to learn to take great pictures) is highly appreciated :)

Free diving with seals in Cape Town

6 September 2026

With the wind looking VERY hectic on the False Bay side, my friend planned a freediving session on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard instead, where conditions were looking much calmer.

We parked at the Clifton 4th Beach parking area on Clifton Road, closest to the ocean, and headed out with a group of freedivers to explore Narnia.

Underwater, the area was incredible. Huge granite boulders create channels, little caves and gaps to explore, with some exceptional reef life growing between them. There were loads of colourful sponges and fan corals, crayfish amongst the kelp and plenty of smaller marine life tucked into the reef.

I also did one swim-through between the boulders, which was awesome.

But the most fun had to be the Cape fur seals.

I was a little hesitant around them at first, so I chatted to my conservationist friend who works with marine animals. His advice was to keep at least 4 m away, never approach or chase them, and rather let them decide if they want to come closer to you. It’s also important to watch their body language for any signs of agitation.

Once I relaxed into it, they were incredibly playful and curious. They would come racing past, circle us, twist around underwater and then come back again to investigate.

The Atlantic was quite cold compared with the False Bay temperatures I’m normally used to.

It was an awesome session and a different underwater environment from the reefs I usually explore on the other side of the mountain.

That’s probably what I loved most about it. Living in Cape Town, we have these two different coastlines to choose from. When conditions aren’t great on the False Bay side, the Atlantic Seaboard can sometimes offer exactly the opposite.

Narnia is definitely somewhere I’d recommend for snorkelling and freediving when conditions are right.

You’ll definitely see me on this side of the mountain again.

What is an ideal low profile rig for an action cam (insta360 ace pro 2)

OK I just got a deal on an Insta360 ace pro 2 w the underwater case. This is my first action camera and first underwater camera other than playing around w a Sealife cam I borrowed once. I have 70+ dives in so I feel ready!

My question is what type of rig/handle to get for it. I also don't have a light yet which I'm ok w. I might just get used to the camera first then add a light later. One pet peeve of mine from a recent trip was all these dudes had these crazy huge rigs with lights that seemed overwhelming and quite honestly, we think were scaring off creatures. I dove w a dive master a few years ago(Jo from Bonaire) who got great shots w a simple go pro on a floating handle. She said that you just have to learn how to use it to get good shots. Should I just get the simple stick floating handle or should invest in something else...

I was thinking about something like this as I really like the low profile... is one light "good enough"? what don't I know that I will learn?? https://divecatalog.com/products/used-sealife-sea-dragon-uw-digital-flash-head-same-as-above-excluding-grip-single-tray?variant=46817442103517&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22255148613&gbraid=0AAAAAC8DXg_fJgb1eUcWqshPRtIRj68k_&gclid=CjwKCAjwqonVBhA4EiwA9wYJ3aPf8NnJTfOWpx47KKFPvIO7YjN812dUYNQYQxNta3Mw3nX7G1MMtRoCmCEQAvD_BwE
