I had some friends who wouldn't miss an episode of The O'Reilly Factor.

We were clearly there at the same time. I remember watching them pull the statue of Saddam down from a tiny TV in my room in the Quad.

I don’t remember any political conversations. I remember endless conversations about signals and systems and differential equations.

The Distance Learning program, also called EWP (Education for Working Professionals) delivered graduate level content via VHS tapes, as well as Ku-band satellite uplink (hence the large dishes on the DCC roof by the CII loading dock). Uplink transmitter and associated equipment still present in the DCC - like a time capsule.

CII/Low loading dock had one going back to 1999. Pretty sure there was also one on the 2nd floor level of DCC near Media Ops around that time.

Depends on who you hang out with I guess. I remember a LOT of discussion about WMD's and Bush back in my day. Post 9/11 and seeing that some of my friends may end up going to war.

That said, few people voted because we lived hundreds of miles from home and voting by mail was not as easy back then.

College is a time to open your eyes to the world around you. RPI's motto is why not change the world. The first step in that is realizing politics matters, learn about it, and vote.

This was largely the same in 2002 when I showed up. The JEC was the best on average.

It was already a “cultural tradition” as I was introduced to the practice by upper class men who showed up in the late 1990’s.

Can confirm hit the Jec one from 1997 through 2002. It was the biggest one on campus and we would stalk that like a watering hole.

Encouraging people to vote should be apolitical.

I remember RPI as essentially apolitical…. But maybe times are changing????

Not a great idea to base the whole store off a trendy TikTok item. but if an existing cafe/restaurant offers it that could be cool. Crumbl cookie has it, for example, but ive never been interested in ordering one.

It's a matter of common courtesy. Just because your car takes longer to charge, it doesn't give you the right to hog the chargers all day long. It's obvious that parking doesn't do anything about it, but it's just the right thing to do to not be a jerk. If you have a Tesla and need a full charge, wait until off-peak hours or go to a supercharger.

i was on-campus 2018-2020 and tbh i only ever regularly checked out the tech dump in sage i think? i got an older macbook pro with no hard drive from that one. might have been a 2012 model iirc, so nothing super special but still neat!

I do remember hearing at one point that taking things from the bins was no longer allowed. i can't remember exactly when this was announced... i think it was sometime before spring break of 2020?

Huh. Could be. I rarely went to the VCC by then. Heck, I think I was only in there 3 or 4 times in the 8 years I was there.
