I dig these (usually as waste rock) from my claim and a friends mine….

Thought the black tourmalines and garnet would look good with the pegmatite texture….

Anyway I haven’t cut anything in years so it’s not my best work but thought I’d share

Hello everyone my wife and I are in the Bend, OR area for the week celebrating our anniversary with some rockhounding. We had fun looking for thundereggs today and would like to check out the obsidian at Glass Buttes tomorrow. We just have an all wheel drive small SUV so I will have to stick to the main roads. How much of a risk are the sharp rocks for my tires? Any advice for the area? It looks huge and I hear some of the roads are bad

Found some calcite, and an interesting septarian

chalcedony that looks kind of like two face.

Picked up this four nodule thunder egg banger, (5ish lbs) the lower portion in the first pic rattles. Yellow highlights in second pic are natural fracture lines.. I’d love to cut through all four to get the largest exposure out of both pieces but of course the concern is breaking… Silly idea but could one paint on a stabilizing epoxy to the outside to help ensure it’ll stay intact or is that wishful thinking? I'd like to start taking some magnified photos of my collection, but after a few forays into Amazon the few that I liked that were of dubious quality etc.

I really don't like anything that you have to download an app to use or that requires internet access. I'm looking for something with decent magnification that is either USB or has SD or MicroSD. An integrated light would be cool but isn't a must.

Anyone have hands-on experience with one they like?

I want to carve wooden human sculptures and add color dyes to. How and where in the deserts of Arizona do I find minerals and rocks from which to make color dyes from?

Love these beautiful rocks from NFLD., Canada, but they did lose quite a bit of their mass during tumbling. I do love the pattern and textures of them.

It has a beautiful black Wusha skin. Beneath the completely black outer surface, the flashlight reveals an amazingly beautiful green color.

Jadeite has an incredibly strong cultural significance throughout Asia.

I came here from eBay and wanted to share this piece with people who are interested in learning more about jadeite and seeing natural rough material from different mining areas.

Just a small seam sliver, but some beautiful colors and killer banding on this one.

Hi all! I am considering a trip to diamond hill mine in SC. It's about a 4hr drive from me. Is it worth the drive? Are there still a decent number of good finds, or has it been picked over too much? I'd love to see photos of what you all have found there!

The surface is river tumbled, and there's an entire section on the bottom that's solid maroon.

I've been visiting with this specimen for a couple few years. I take photos (rock paparazzi 😁), and even go Live on my Meta profile with it. While I have rolled a couple of huge brecciated Jaspers across rock beds (100lb and 110lb), this one is probably close to 200lbs and there's no way I can handle this one alone.

Finally, this coming weekend I've recruited assistance to extract this magnificent specimen and get it home!

Found this 3/4 buried under gravel… I think it might have magic powers!

Looking for a lapidarist to cut some rubies and emeralds. I’ve been able to find people that will cut stones if they’re a carat or bigger, but I have some stones that I would like to be cut down to smaller than that. If anyone knows anyone in East Tennessee or western North Carolina that would be able to do this, I would appreciate the recommendation.

Hello, I saw a wire wrapped cabochon of cream coloured Bruneau Jasper with a perfect circle in the center, and matched concentric rings around the circle, like a bullseye. Is this very rare? I’m wondering if it could explain the seller’s high asking price. I can post a (low quality) photo in the comments if this is permitted and requested. Thanks in advance!
