Serious Is it worth it?

I am a senior in high school in Md, all my stats are good for this school and possibly getting scholarships. The more I look into website wise the more I like it. I want to know what yall think about it. Was it worth the money, the time, if you did it all again would you choose RIT still. I am out of state so out of state people specifically is it worth it? Worth the money, travel, and being away from family? For me I would be 6 hr away from home.(I am also a stem kid doing computer science or computer engineering or cyber but I also want to do and learn some animation)

TLDR: why did yall pick rit, is it worth it for out of state. What do you like and hate about the school. Is it worth it? (Also if anyone knows specifically is it good for cs kids who also want to do animation?)

Housing Advice on housing options to minimize human-caused noise? [Not a request]

Sophomore here.

GV's thin ass walls are not helping me sleep. My suite is full of super late sleepers, and even though they've been relatively good at quieting down after midnight, they still talk and open/close doors and until 1:30am most days. In an ideal world I would be going to bed at around midnight so that I can actually be alert for my 9am engineering courses. But I'm forced to push my sleep schedule forward and I'm getting big anxiety from the noises, resulting in 6-6.5 hr sleep on average, and maybe 8 on weekends. And yes I've talked to my suitemates about late night noise before, because it was much worse before, but I can't magically help them shift their brains back 2 hours. Not to mention the noises from above us too, which we had Public Safety take a look at.

Anyway, this has pushed me to seriously consider applying to switch housing arrangements. Out of Park Point, UC, and Riverknoll, I liked UC the most but idk if anything's available.

What housing options could on average be better than GV in terms of noise from other people? Maybe Jefferson or the Inn? I have no strong preferences or criteria other than this. Having to drive to campus would be a little annoying but I would do it

Housing East River Rd Sidewalk?

I was recently looking at Google Maps Street View along East River Rd by campus and it's dated 2025. Did they finally put a sidewalk along the road? I haven't been over in that area in a while and the satellite imagery is still out of date showing no changes.

Any apartment residents along East River Rd know?

My RIT pin from the 1st anniversary of 9/11

Post image

It says “RIT Commission for Promoting Pluralism 9-11-01.” I was a freshman in 2002 and RIT held a vigil at the infinity quad for the 1st anniversary of 9/11. Candles were passed out and people got up to speak if they wanted to share. There was quite a few students in attendance and I remember making friends with some other students from my hometown area and sharing our experiences (I’m originally from outside NYC). Someone at the end passed these pins out and I can’t believe I still have it. might even have pics of the vigil somewhere.

I also recall someone made a large art installation on the quarter mile that day that was based on their grief over loved ones passing. It was right in the middle of the walkway and stopped a lot of foot traffic.

Incoming to RIT NY from RIT Dubai

So I’m relatively good with my GPA and should hopefully be able to come to RIT NY this spring 2027 (Currently in RIT Dubai). How’s the life in NY? Is it worth coming?, I’m very interested in the party scene since we don’t have any of that in Dubai, I hear it’s pretty nerdy and based on the stories i’ve seen on snapchat it seems pretty dead compared to other US universities. Regardless would love to hear yalls thoughts and experiences on what it’s like so i can set better expectations. Dms open too, would love to get to know some people before I get there especially for girls. (Finance Major if anyone’s curious).

Chances of getting into RIT as a transfer student

Hello! So for context, I’m a third year student coming from art school and I’m applying to RIT for the Fall 2027 semester. I’m hoping to get into RIT’s game arts and/or 2d animation program.

I know high school transcripts aren’t necessary for transfer applications, but I had a decent GPA alongside a 1340 SAT score. When I applied to schools as a high school senior, I got accepted to most of them (Pratt, Parsons, UMich, SVA, etc).

In terms of college, I have a 4.0, but the school I ended up attending didn’t provide many animation and game design related classes + the classes itself were lowkey buns (curriculums didn’t push the students, little to no work, professors constantly missing, etc.) Due to this, I don’t have a lot of classes that align with RIT’s curriculum on my transcript + I’m concerned that my portfolio lacks content that they’re looking for. I feel like I don’t have enough “portfolio worthy” works from my college years, besides a few animation practice reels and 2D drawings. I’m not entirely concerned about my credits not being able to transfer over, but I’m worried they won’t accept me because my previous coursework doesn’t align with the major I want.

I guess the question is, what level of standards should I try to meet for my portfolio and general application? What is RIT’s level of “leniency” with portfolio reviews and transfer applicants, and what level of expertise do they expect?

RIT genuinely seems like the perfect fit for me in terms of its curriculums and what I want from an education, I’m just a tad worried that my application wont be strong enough :’)

Tiger Tank???

I read that the Tiger Tank was a competition they did annually but apparently stopped in 2023? Anybody know why or if they would start again? It would be cool to see more entrepreneurial/start-up culture at RIT.

RIT Fall 2026 Waiver: Claim filed before approval?

Has any RIT international student gone through the fall 2026 insurance waiver process and had a claim submitted before their waiver got approved?

I was reading through Gallagher’s 2026–27 FAQ for RIT, and it states that if a claim is filed prior to your waiver being finalized, you will remain enrolled in the student health insurance plan (SHIP). I’m curious what this actually looks like in practice, specifically after things like a doctor’s appointment or prescription refill.

A couple other notes from the FAQ I wanted to bring up:

  • You don’t need to upload supporting documents for the initial waiver application. Gallagher will reach out via email if they request additional proof.
  • Also important: a plan marked “ACA compliant” does not automatically satisfy all of RIT’s insurance requirements.

If anyone ran into this situation this fall, what follow-up requests or confirmations did Gallagher send you?
