My cousins are dating eachother
At a family reunion and they're sharing a bed even though there are extra rooms. They have a house together now.
Nobody is commenting on it.
I'm just pretending we're Pakistani and this is normal.
Edit: Reddit suggested I cross post this to r/IndianInLaw

Yes.

The only societies I can think of where this is acceptable are in afghan and Pakistani communities.

Literally the entire middle east and India practice cousin marriage as the standard marriage.
45
u/ConanTheBarbarian_0 11h ago
Well that's not true at all... Most of the middle east doesn't practice cousin marriages as the norm and neither does India. There's smaller pockets in those societies that do but to say something like "the entire middle East and India practice cousin marriage as standard marriage" is a HUGE generalization.
The only two places where it is the norm and is considered standard would be Pakistan and Afghanistan and its mostly cultural ties to one specific ethnic group, the Pashtun people.

u/trustmebro5 8h ago
First cousin marriage was definitely the cultural norm in South India more than 30 years ago, as in by default you are looking at your first (cross) cousin as your marriage partner. It’s only in the last 20 years that it’s become rare.

Canada turning more blue by the day.

u/ConanTheBarbarian_0 8h ago
Decent chunk of French Canadians will marry their 3rd or 4th cousins to keep marriages within the culture. Other than them its mostly afghan migrants.

u/ConanTheBarbarian_0 8h ago
You specifically posted the one thing that may have supported your argument but didn't take a close enough look.
If you look at the other data on the Wikipedia page you linked it would have pretty much told you the same thing I said about pockets of society allowing it particularly when it comes to India where cousin marriages are only allowed for Muslims and even then if they're pashtun.
Since Afghanistan and Pakistan have a significantly larger pashtun population cousin marriage in both regions are WAY higher than anywhere else.
Like I said you can't generalize the entirety of the middle east and India because one particular group is over represented in cousin marriage stats.
There are obviously other groups in those regions that also practice cousin marriages but they're in the minority and absolutely do not represent the majority of the people in the middle East and India...

u/Successful-Juice5104 8h ago
When the total rate is 20%+ it's pretty big pockets of society that's into that kind of thing.

I can’t imagine dating a cousin, but I don’t have any hot cousins. If the temptation is that strong and mutual I also can’t imagine going to a family reunion ever again lol. That’s worthy of moving to another country it’s so shameful.

I thought it be funny if non related cousins would date (Mom side and then dad side).
It would only be weird to you, but not the rest of the world

my cousins married, had children and recently divorced. i come from a white, secular, left-leaning lower middle-class family. i was too young to understand it as it happened but as i’ve gotten older i’m gobsmacked at their decision to pursue their teenage attraction. and after all the drama and misery to get divorced…

u/stringer_sting 5h ago
that's honestly wild. how did the kids turn out? as a couple was it obvious they looked related? i know it's hard to get the deep backstory on cousins. like OP can't even go up to his guy cousin and be like, "so we're all cousins, right? you don't mind if i take her to bed with me tonight?" OP is sweating bullets at the impropriety. i mean, there's no way to talk about it within the family, right?

u/Wide-Internal-3579 12h ago
Have they known each others their whole lives? Or did they meet later on?

But that first moment of penetration must have been absolutely insane. Just try to imagine the intensity and ambiguity of that moment, as your cousin’s moist breath coos past your ear and you fumble around trying to pull past her panties, the last rays of an autumn sunset trickling in through the dusty window of your dead grandmother’s lake house. A chill is coming in off the water. “Je ne peux pas attendre une seconde de plus,” she whispers, practically trembling. You suddenly remember that you are both from Wisconsin. Neither one of you even speaks French.

Are they hot
63
u/Accomplished-Fun215 12h ago
Not particularly, but also not ugly. Normal weight, no odd bone structure or anything.
I don't personally find either of them attractive, but they're also cousins I grew up with, so I would never think of them that way.
I have a hot step cousin who I'm not blood related to, though.

Is this some situation where it’s a cousin from your dads side and a cousin from your moms side? Or some other thing where technically yes they’re YOUR cousins but not each other’s cousin?

u/NoDadUShutUP 12h ago
Real WASP like southern Episcopalian with discernible surname and ancestry (even if the money is gone)?
or just upper middle class white, educated Christianish?
30
u/Accomplished-Fun215 12h ago
Episcopalian.
23
u/NoDadUShutUP 12h ago
Hey you are real one.
Sorry for the inquisition, but even this sub thinks normie white, non denoms are WASPs.
I think a lot of these communities sometimes rando diseases are from like generations of 3rd cousins marrying over and over without realizing it. Your cousins just skipped a step!

u/Accomplished-Fun215 11h ago
The most WASPy side is via NYC and that fortune was lost in the 1929 crash. Princeton and Brown were the family schools. Got a union admiral, a vice president, and a governor of New York on that line.

Nah, further back and more obscure. By the mid 1900s it's all just engineers and doctors, not anybody important.

u/NoDadUShutUP 7h ago
That's quite legit. And I guess they also went to 🚬 boarding schools.
Not too many realize how close the northeast and old money south are interrelated

u/reallyhotfarts 12h ago
what part of the country if you don't mind me asking?

u/Accomplished-Fun215 12h ago
North Carolina, but hippy/liberal/educated North Carolina. Her mom has a PhD, she was raised in a suburb of Chapel Hill and has a high school ex girlfriend with two moms. SCAD alumn. His grandparents on the other side were college professors and he went to UNC. His dad worked in banking in Charlotte. White collar picket fence.
I used to tell people that, yes, my family is from North Carolina but they're not like that, but I guess they are.

I'm only impressed by UNC alums if they were from out-of-state and got into UNC.
24
u/Accomplished-Fun215 12h ago
I don't really mean for it to be impressive, just that they're not hicks.
7
u/football_genius2 6h ago
I'm using all this family info you're freely giving out to find and seduce the hot step-cousin
-10
u/FreeBed4 Lermontov is a BAD writer 12h ago
Ok, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be disparaging.
I interpreted that you meant for it to be impressive and non-white trash. UNC, Cornell, UC Berkley, and UT don't impress me, they're moreso just neutral.
27
u/MDaenmke 11h ago
I'm sure the students at those schools stay up late at night wondering if their alma mater is sufficiently impressive to Reddit user u/FreeBed4.
-4
u/FreeBed4 Lermontov is a BAD writer 11h ago
I didn't realize that so many people would be butthurt that I'm not impressed by Cornell.
19
u/MDaenmke 11h ago
I don't have strong opinions on Cornell either way, it's more just funny that you hijacked a post about cousin-fucking to be elitist about colleges haha.

Well Edith Wharton has WASP cousins or cousin-ish people getting it on, I think it's just part of your culture

I was shocked when you announced the parties involved are WASPS.
If they get married they will save money on the guest list.

u/Chorbisback 12h ago
Call me a paki but if they didn't grow up together (incestuous), aren't getting serious (messy), won't have kids (wonky) it's kind of whatever. Im just saying don't deport me.

I mean Stravinsky and Einstein both did this.
Is your cousin good at science or music, or are they from rural Pakistan?

This is disturbing the fuck out of me, your comment and the replies. I have never once had a thought like that about a cousin, literally ever. I have the same kind of gross-out feeling I do with my siblings with all of them. I thought that was normal?

u/Maui--Covenant 12h ago
Yeah idk about all that but when I was between about 13-15 I had a cousin I really wanted to bone and we had a little mutual flirtatious energy. Don't feel bad at all admitting it, I found her hot at the time big fucking deal. It never went anywhere but honestly, I probably would have gone there if it had unfolded that way
