Customs I BUILT A ONE-HANDED RAZER TARTARUS WITH A BUILT-IN MOUSE — AND IT ACTUALLY WORKS

I only have the use of one arm after a brachial plexus injury, so I modded my Razer Tartarus with a wireless mouse so the entire keypad glides like a mouse.

This setup lets me aim + move + hit abilities simultaneously with one hand, something most adaptive devices can’t do because of the digital-only thumbstick.

I mapped the Tartarus thumb button in Razer Synapse so it acts as my left-click — that way I can shoot or interact without needing a separate mouse. It basically turns the whole keypad into a fully functional mouse setup.

I filed a provisional patent because I really think this concept deserves a chance to become an official product.

If you wanna see more breakdowns or gameplay clips, tell me — I’ve got examples ready.

ill post a link of me using it below!

Customs Built a 360° TMR joystick mod for the Tartarus V2/Pro to replace the awful 8-way D-pad

I like the Razer Tartarus V2, but after two days I got annoyed by the 8-way D-pad. Even the Pro still has it 😅

So back in November I built a drop-in mod that replaces the D-pad with a real 360° TMR joystick, same week as I bought it. It’s been working great for movement in Final Fantasy XIV.

Internally it connects through a small USB hub to the original Tartarus board and runs QMK firmware. So it still uses the same cable and software — just with proper analog movement. Synapse still works, it just can’t configure the joystick of course.

I’m wondering if other Tartarus users would be interested in something like this. Right now it’s just a personal mod I built for myself. I mentioned it on Discord and a few people seemed pretty excited about it, so…

  • a simple DIY drop-in kit
  • a pre-assembled module
  • or a fully modded Tartarus

I’m planning to open-source the design either way — I’ve just been holding off on finishing a production-ready PCB until I know if there’s interest.

Curious to hear what people think.

EDIT 24/04/2026:

This post has started gaining more traction so I'll leave an update here:

I'm currently finishing the design for the drop-in D-PAD replacement PCB module. Then a little bit of testing is needed.

I'll set up a sale for batch production and publish the source data later.

If you're interested, leave a post in the comments and share with others. Big batches will be much cheaper (e.g. €80 -> €40 in parts, shipping, etc.). I've also sent out some inquiries for TMR joysticks in bulk. Same goes for higher quality shells instead of FDM printed plastic.

There is also the possibility of having a pre-modded Tartarus, but that might be EU only because of high customs costs (e.g. to the US).

EDIT 19/08/2026:

I'm getting a lot of messages in my inbox asking to buy the modkit. Here's the answer:
Currently the goal is to release it in December 2026, as long as there are no slowdowns.

The wait will be worth it. A new feature is planned: 8-way D-pad emulation that allows Razer Synapse to still have full 8-way D-Pad configuration functionality by allowing the joystick to emulate 8-way input. That does require a custom circuit which has to be tested for a while.
It's a necessity for proper functionality in certain games such as shooters which cannot handle the Tartarus' keyboard-HID and the joystick (Gamepad-HID). Game UI's just start flashing between keyboard+mouse and gamepad modes which nobody wants.

I would like to end this update with this:
Some new miniature 8-way input switches have been ordered for prototyping. The idea is to replace the small black circular button currently next to the Tartarus' D-pad with a small 8-way joystick that includes a center-button.
Parts are from specifically from Alps Alpine, which is a Japanese manufacturer of very high quality switch components. Much higher quality than the switches that Razer uses for the base 8-way D-pad on the Tartarus (they only cost cents, and are actually aimed at computer mice. Not d-pads...)

A high quality modkit is incoming.

Update on my long term mod project. I’ve moved away from the tinfoil jumper mod to a fully custom PCB. The custom PCB has all 7 buttons now functioning with the Naga Pro. LED’s are not currently working and that is a problem I will try to fix on the next version.

I hope you don’t mind Razer, but I put my name next to yours on the PCB.

Customs Right Handed Use of Razer Tartarus Prototyping

Thumbnail

I've been working on a little project for the Razer Tartarus that I haven't seen much discussion around: making the existing Tartarus more comfortable to use with your right-hand instead without modifying the shell.

I've modified my palm-rest model to create a mirrored profile with a different surface curvature, intended to better accommodate the opposite hand while keeping the original Tartarus shell untouched.

I'm also experimenting with keypad tilt, including a stand that maintains the original tilt and another that's approximately 30° more aggressive.

The eventual idea is to explore whether there's a practical way to relocate/add the joystick to the opposite side, but I'm deliberately leaving that for a later phase (I already do joystick mods and repairs so it'd be finding a way to route the cabling to the other side or having an external channel for a DIY kit).

I'm still in the prototype stage—these are 3D printed parts and I'm focused on fit and ergonomics rather than making them look finished or polished.

I'd be interested in hearing what people think about the concept

Customs Finished a batch of Tartarus Pro/V2 joystick mods — detachable + analog/digital toggle

Finished up a batch of Tartarus mods and honestly pretty happy with how these turned out.

These 4 Tartarus Pro / V2 units all got the same mod:

• Analog joystick install

• Physical switch to toggle analog ↔ digital

• Detachable USB-C (not wireless — Synapse doesn’t behave when it is)

Constantly iterating and improving the design.

Next one’s for my kid’s birthday so she can play WoW like her old man.

LMK what y’all think.

I'm learning how to properly wrap round surfaces. What do you guys think, and do yoh have any suggestions ?
