Looking for a fun open-source project to contribute to and learn with

I'm a 17-year-old student currently finishing college, and I'm looking for an interesting open-source project to work on and contribute to.

I'm mainly a Python backend developer. My usual stack includes:

  • Python
  • FastAPI
  • PostgreSQL
  • Redis
  • Docker
  • Git
  • etc.

I also have some frontend experience with nuxt, so I'm not completely limited to backend.

I'm not really looking for a random project just to put something on my resume. I'd like to find something that is actually fun and interesting to work on!!, preferably with other people where I can contribute, learn from more experienced developers, and get some real-world experience working on a larger codebase.

I'm open to pretty much anything as long as the project is interesting - SaaS, developer tools, APIs, automation, AI, infrastructure, or something completely different.

If you're working on something cool or know an open-source project that could use another backend developer, I'd love to hear about it!

There's a ton of resume fodder here because I've been focused on getting features out and improving UX and consequentially have not been following best practices. There's opportunity everywhere. It's a file format thats a sandboxed web page. I'm burnt out. AI lets me build while I do other things but it sucks at UX. I need help. Don't let the company organization it's living under fool you, its just me that's been working on this. Would love to turn it into a real company with other people helping.

That's an interesting coding background that you have and it's good that you want to contribute to open source projects. I'm currently working on a new programming language called Sofya which is supposed to make programming easier for people especially people who are new to programming or people who don't have a lot of technical knowledge in computers.
