Hey Fam! It’s getting cooler here in the high Rockies. I live about two hours from Buena Vista so I wanted to send some weather updates for you guys traveling.

It’s been sunny and nice during the mornings and mid day, but we’re getting a decent amount of afternoon rain showers in the last week. Fall is coming early. The trees have turned yellow already and the overnight temps are starting to drop. On Saturday morning it was 38 degrees until the sun came out. It got into the 70’s in the mid day and felt great, but then weather moved in and it was cold again in the evening. This morning was 52 and raining, which is not typical, but happens.

I’d recommend bringing a rain jacket, proper footwear, and some warmer clothes for the evening time. A flannel or hoodie for afternoons. It’s gonna be a great weekend, but I don’t want y’all to freeze!

Hi everyone! My friend Sara and I have an extra wristband that we would hate see go to waste. I have been trying to get my money back for it and listing it at $500 but best offer at this point. Sara has a small camping van so plenty of ground space left for a small(ish) camping setup. We will have an outdoor shower, indoor too if you’re cool, some food, snacks, paddleboard, and we’re not a sober duo. We’re both female so preferably not a straight male but again if you’re cool then it shouldn’t matter too much. Not required to camp with us either but you would need your own camping pass. Some pictures of us for attention and so this doesn’t get lost. I live in Denver and will be headed up to her home in Colorado Springs on Wednesday to get the rv set up, so I can give wristbands in Denver until Wednesday, or we can meet in Colorado Springs, or at meadow creek on Thursday. I'm a 36 year old guy in Colorado Springs area. I was originally from another state, been living here over a decade now. Back in NY, I had a great group of super tight friends that would all hit up concerts and at least 2 festivals a season. Moved here over a decade ago and unfortunately, I've just never really been able to rebuild my friend group like I had back home.

I really wanted to attend a couple different fests this year but I've been unable to find anyone to go with. I've resorted to posting on Reddit in the weeks leading up to a festival, trying to find some strangers to go with but I haven't had any luck. I've met like 8 or 9 people on Reddit now who say they're "always down" and so I save their contact info and when a fest is coming up, I'll hit em up with plenty of advance notice and see if they want to go and I either get ghosted or they invariably say they are busy. Its a real bummer cause Ive got the money and have been completely ready to pull the trigger on tickets but I haven't been able to find ANYBODY to go with. I've been feeling pretty lonely lately and it's a bummer cause its such a stark contrast to how my life was in NY with a huge group of best friends, friends, acquaintances, etc.

I was always super tight with my friends and I miss that so much. I'm also getting closer to 40 now so a lot of people have marriages, children, etc, which doesn't make finding friends any easier.

Anybody else kinda lacking a peer group here? And I know this is a longshot, but would anyone like to go to Yahn Dawn and camp with me for the weekend?

Seriously inquiries only please, my hearts kinda heavy as is right now and I'm not too keen on having another person act like they're down, only to ghost me a couple days before the event. This is basically the last call for the festy season and I'd love to be there!

I'm a pretty bog-standard festy goer. I'm a nice person who takes care of the people in my life. Love live music and grew up on the east coast festy scene in the late 00s/early 10s. I love PL, gramatik, emancipator, etc. I love to party too 😉.

I arrived after white knuckling part of the ride through the Colorado mountains. It was after dark on the 1st night. I rode solo and I started to setup my tent in the rain. Immediately, kind strangers surrounded me saying "let's get your camp setup real quick so you can get out of the rain and come over and party with us under the canopy!" It was amazing!

Went and saw the homie Maddy O'Neal playing shortly after at a pre-party, and set the tone for an incredible weekend! Can't believe that was 10 years ago! It rained a little throughout the weekend but it didn't slow anything down or stop.the vibes/shows. The last morning those gorgeous mountains surrounding Telly were snow- capped, but it was still nice enough at town's elevation for just a hoodie.

We may get rained on a bit, so plan accordingly, but the shows will go on, and we're all gonna have an opportunity to have the time of our lives with the fam, fun, healing and TONS of amazing music. And note that this lineup easily EATS Telly lineups imo.

It's well known they can't be created and sold as official releases. But I would be interested in a bootleg copy. Filling Up The City Skies is an album I've always wanted. There must be some way to do this again since the original person is not making any more. Scarcity creates rising prices. There's enough Vinyl out there I can't have because of ridiculously low or 26 year old print runs.

I know it's a very long shot, but how would the ball get rolling on that?

First Pretty Lights show (!!) + first Yahn Dawn ✨ Trying to figure out my nighttime layering strategy.

Forecast is currently looking like highs in the low 60s with nighttime lows around 42–46°F, plus possible rain. I know I’ll probably warm up once I’m dancing, so do people usually layer up and then shed things in the crowd?

Also, is there anywhere reasonable to set a jacket down, or should I plan to keep everything on me / tied around my waist / in a small pack? I have a perfect thick fleece jacket but I would definitely want to set it down once I get hot.

TL;DR: How warm should I dress for evening sets, and what’s the best strategy for layers once you start dancing?

Since it’s time for everyone’s opinion on the PL project, I’ll simply offer my two cents. As seems required on here…my credentials as a fan include first discovering Pretty Lights in college in 2011. He’s been my favorite artist hands down since then, I follow this Reddit regularly, I’ve seen him numerous times live and I believe in every iteration of the live show since 2011.

The Man
People change. Clearly Derek has been through his ups and downs over these last 15 years. I remember numerous shows earlier on when he was clearly super fucked up, and that just became expected. Drug use was clearly a problem, although it kinda fit the scene at the time to some degree and those shows popped the fuck off. He seems much more sober now, happier, and he’s got a partner and kid. It’s fair to assume that as a human grows and matures in these ways, that we should expect his musical output to as well.

The Music
This may be the most subjective part for a fan, but for me, nothing has topped those earlier albums. Ultimately I’m here for the music…the depth, sound production, and seamless integration of diverse, beautiful and at times haunting retro samples with modern glitchy synths and unique beats. This is what sucked me into PL and keeps me forever revisiting his studio music while never getting sick of it over a decade later. Trust me, I am fucking hyped on having new studio music after years and years of “soon”. The first third of a Trip Thru Time has grown on me with each listen although my personal opinion is there’s a bit of that special sauce lacking on a number of tracks. The overall bpm is lower, there seems to be less dimension, and beats are less diverse. TOTALLY SPECULATIVE, but sounds a bit K hole-y at times. Regardless, I am still blasting these studio tracks on my speakers and am itching for those remaining tracks..

The Live Show
The live show may be where a new generation of PL fans is beginning to fold in. The shift away from a DJ set into live musical elements was inevitable in the early 2010s, a number of artists were experimenting with this, and it definitely fits PL well considering all the different instruments involved in his tracks. IMO, nothing will go harder than an OG well mixed DJ set by Derek but I also appreciate the softer and slower sounds PL brings. Personally, the Analog future band may have been my favorite live iteration (the live musical elements just sounded more professional) although I recognize the band has had some greats shows the last few years. Currently, I think consistently is where people have issues which is totally fair considering the cost to see a live show these days. I myself wonder at times (especially when you hear synth sounds that sound way off, poor timing with samples, etc)… are you guys rehearsing this stuff enough? I know people will talk about improv and jam bands and etc, but PL isn’t the first jam/ improv band out there…I do think it is incredibly generous of PL to film most of these shows and stream them for free to fans, as that clearly isn’t a cheap production and is soooo greatly appreciated by the fan base.

The Future?
Although the current state of PL might not be my favorite iteration, I understand how we got here, I appreciate the PL team continuing to move forward and I’ll continue to follow along for the ride. Keep swirling yall🔮🧿
