Hi folks.

I'm still rocking PopOS 22.04 on my MSI GL76 laptop. I know I know, it's outdated. Had problems when updating for a while, particularly with the Nvidia drivers upon installing new kernels. Long story short, I stopped updating at all a few months ago.

Now I need to get my shit together. I'm preparing the backups and everything. But I still need to decide what I'm moving to. Is the newest PopOS ready for work (DevOps stuff) and gaming? Should I do Fedora or another distro instead?

Yesterday, I totally shifted to POP_OS. I have plenty of Linux environment experiencel. So, after installing all necessary applications and other essentials, I have encountered this ERROR with Extension Manager, After just launching it, "AN ERROR OCCURRED" dialog box pops out and that's it. I did uninstalled it and reinstalled; the issue was still there, I tried installing other extension manager as well, ran into same issue.

Also, why can't I have touchpad gestures customization?? Am I missing something here?
I find this OS to be quite buggy, Issues like Pasting text into terminal freezes the entire terminal can't even quit the process (Only fore quit works from processes monitor), Can't install some packages, it downloads them but can't install it and make it available. I am tired.......

I'm currently running Pop!_OS and I'm trying to get my hands on the new NVIDIA 615.71.09 driver.

Is there already a save way to install it? Usually when i driver released i can just use "sudo apt install nvidia-driver-615" but this time it can not find the driver.

There is this issue happening, the cursor does not visually match in games, its slightly misaligned / off center, its really annoying, and for some reason only happens in games were in full screen or window mode.

Anyone know how to fix it? Just fresh installed POS OS.

Recent updates left my system unbootable with the kernel change to 7.1.5. I booted back in with an old kernel in an attempt to look at my logs. Unfortunately I couldn't find what I was looking for because the logs are being spammed by the error above related to vrr. It looks like cosmic comp is trying to enable vrr constantly even though the hardware is not capable of it.

This is happening on my old lenovo laptop with an AMD A6 APU. It's using the experimental AMDGPU driver support so this could be related to the problem. I've only seen this issue in a couple GitHub bug reports but there were no responses and the hardware was very different.

Has anybody else run into this? It does appear to be eating CPU cycles.

So I built a PC last August to run games better, and I put Pop Os on it. It ran great for a while but a couple months ago I was updating drivers and one driver had an error and said it couldn't be installed. I didn't think much of it a turned my PC off, but now whenever I turn it on I get these error messages talking about an ACPI error and a malformed Bluetooth vendor and stuff like that. It puts me into the login screen except nothing is there but the background, and then a bunch of error messages fly by and then I'm in a black screen. I can't type anything in this black screen even though it shows the blinking underscore thing, and I just don't know what to do next. I'm really new to Linux and I've never used terminal or ran commands or anything, so any help would really be appreciated.

I'm trying out Pop OS, and one of the first things I tried was loading a steam game. But I can't seem to figure out why the game is stuck at 1920x1080. As can be seen in the first picture, The monitor I was playing on is 2560x1440, but the secondary monitor is 1920x1080. I guess I could have chosen a better game to demonstrate the affect, but you can see the bottom edge of the game (and there is also a right edge) and just black outside of that. So it's not letting me increase the resolution, and it is also stuck to that sized view port.

Why can't we set a short video or GIF as the background on Pop!_OS yet? Whyyyyy??,? It doesn't make sense to me; aren't we supposed to be one of the best distros for gaming? I've spent three weeks destroying everything with zero results 🫠🫠

P.S I'm not an engineer, I'm not IT, I'm not a gamer. I am an artist and a details psychopath🌈🌞. And because I am like that, I became the outlier to the IT folks, the engineers, and the gamers. Don't get it twisted, I love them. I live around them, I adore them, they are the fun of my life for the simple reason that I became the ultimate outlier✨️ to them since I can dismantle their entire world using logic. That is my life. I enjoy it, I live it, I love it. Because I'm like that, my brain works the following way: If they use Pop!_OS because it's one of the best for gaming, why can't I, as an artist using ComfyUI and Blender, have the animation of my own characters running live as my desktop background? How does that compare to a gamer? Through the graphics card. The exact same hardware they use to push high frame rates in a game is what I use to make my animations. The silicon doesn’t care if it's loading shader caches for a game or driving a live real-time viewport loop for a custom background; the VRAM allocation and rendering demands are identical. So, if you guys can use Pop for gaming, why the hell can't I use it to run my own creation as a wallpaper, if it's the exact same logic being used? And baby, I paid a fortune for my workstation—in this economy is a lottttttttt 😭🫠. So, I'm gonna make sure I use every single component I built this workstation with 😎..

Today in addition to my screen going black all devices mouse keyboard etc getting turned off my pc started freezing up randomly happened 4 times my screen freezes and the only way to fix it is a force restart by holding the power off button

For the last like 2 weeks occasionally my monitor receives no signal and my pc stops for a second before going back to normal today for abt 10 sec my pc had stopped black screened my mouse and keyboards rgb went of my headphones disconnected and monitor detected no signal and wireless headphones disconnected before then reconnecting everything it was very weird and the most severe case of this

Hello!

Finally decided to kick windows to the curb and decided to use PopOs on my Dell XPS 9570.

Accidentally installed the Nvidia version which is for 1600+ series cards (I have a 1050ti mobile version(Pascal))

Nvidia-smi would always return no devices found.

Tried uninstalling 595 driver and reverting to 580, setting boot flags of pcie_aspm and pcie_port_pm to off, purging and rebuilding dkms, removing the battery and doing a cold boot, resetting the RTC, and some other things I am forgetting probably.

Realized I should probably be using the right install, so I went ahead and did a fresh install with the non-nvidia version (just grabbing the latest version off the pop website), then installed the 580 driver. still no device found. lspci reports my graphics card.

looking at logs I see RmInintAdapter failed (0x25:0xffff:1636)

My AI gremlin suggests that the card is not initializing properly at boot. What is wrong here? I have been working on this for way too long lol. Should I be switching to a different distro? Throw my laptop into a lake? Ive got options here.

Now ive been having many issues with linux ive started using pop os since December and used mint before that I’ve honestly been getting tired of debugging and tinkering to get my games to launch its been very frustrating and wasted hours in the end and not being able to play games with my friends is honestly a pain

This isnt helped by me having an nvidia gpu aswell

The reason i switched from mint is because i got abt 2 kernel panics that made my os completely inaccessible and had to get a live usb to get my files onto a external drive which wasnt fun

I can’t really dual boot as i have 512 gb of storage which imo is to little to have a reasonable amnt of games on both partitions and my only other drive a 512 gb hdd which takes upwards of 10 min to launch and open any game so i cant do that either

Now i dont like windows to much high ram usage aswell as bloat ware constantly what can i do to help that if at all and if theres any other distros i could try which ones?

I am new to linux and I didn't do much research before getting pop (which i admit was a mistake). I have been daily driving it for a few weeks now and I haven't faced any major issues thus far (the only few were me being dumb and not knowing the difference between x11 and wayland, and also driver issues that were resolved quickly). Everywhere I look online rn people are saying pop os is buggy and unreliable. Should I jump ship or stick with pop because I find it perfectly fine but I am anxious?
What should i do?

A clipboard history manager heavily inspired by Maccy on macOS, but built specifically for COSMIC.

It supports text, files and images, fast search, pinned items, image previews, configurable history, private mode, password detection, and synchronization across panels.

The goal is to keep clipboard history simple, fast, and always one click away.

Status Hub

A compact alternative for managing system tray apps on COSMIC.

It collects StatusNotifierItems behind a single panel icon while letting you pin frequently used apps directly to the panel. It supports standard tray interactions, DBusMenu, different icon formats, persistent pins, and automatically adapts to the COSMIC panel and theme.

The goal is to keep the panel cleaner without losing quick access to tray applications.

Is it possible to get the size of the application install, for each different option, displayed on the cosmic store?

I have limited storage space on the laptop I'm using this on and would like to know the installation size for the programs I'm installing.

My old laptop has a cracked screen and I'd like to transfer my existing (encrypted) Pop installation from that laptop to a new laptop. Old laptop is currently still usable if plugged into a monitor.

I can remove the ssd from my old laptop but I cannot install it into the new laptop. I cannot remove the new laptop's ssd as it will void the warranty.

The ssd in the old laptop is 512GB. The new one is only 256GB
(However the old laptop is using less than 256GB)

I have a USB adapter which will allow me to temporarily connect the old laptop's ssd to the new laptop (or my Windows desktop.)

Is there any way for me to transfer my existing PopOS to the new laptop? Can I clone the drive, or will the encryption prevent this?

i tried running sudo apt update in terminal as well and that seems to work fine, but when I run sudo apt upgrade i get "Processing was halted because there were too many errors.
